So I'm trying to make this a weekly feature on FCP and when the week is over the thread will be closed and moved to Player Profiles so you can read them whenever. Remember, keep the chit chat to a mi

That's the amazing thing about Phil. When we were younger he was the most likely to tilt because he has such a wild and aggressive style, especially in Stud. In the last five years, though, the guy ju

He's kind of has a killer mentality when it comes to gambling. He loves it, and wants to crush people. He has intense focus and drive that's hard to practice, you either got it or you don't. His weak

Was this the last time he went broke? Are you the catalyst that got him "on his way" with this loan?
Depends on your definition of "broke." Lots of high stakes go cash broke and it actually makes sense. If you have $5 million dollars, it's kind of stupid to have it all in cash, sitting in a box at the Bellagio. Most people invest in something.

Sure, but 200k is like one roll of the dice for him -- and we are talking about what will be considered the most prestigious title (at least amongst pros)Can't you all liven it up with say a one million dollar bet (must win) - I will take half your action (lol)Seriously though, I think if you could get him to lay you 1.2 to 1 you should at least bet 500k, and leave out the prop bets with you and E-dog this year. New question: Who do you think will be the 1st person to win 20 WSOP bracelets - Ivey, Hellmuth or Negreanu?
No chance I can get a price from Ivey. He usually ASKS me for a price! He thinks I'm a better tournament player than he is. Since Ivey has 7 already, I'd bet on him first, me second, and I don't think Hellmuth will ever win 20.

Since this is a Phil Ivey thread, I felt like I had to post this picture. What kind of music does he listen to? Favorite band/artist?phil-ivey-cash.jpg
He likes a lot of rap, but not necessarily mainstream stuff. Although we both like the tune by 50, "Have a baby by me, baby, be a millionaire." Silly song!

Talking more about his character, does he get mad when somebody owes him some money or he just doesn't care if the amount is less than 100k
It depends who owes the money. If it's friends he's cool about it, but if he doesn't like the person that's a totally different story. When he makes bets he always pays right away when he loses.

One thing you need to know about people with money. When people have a lot of money they always act like they are broke. It's those that brag regularly about how much they are worth that are usually pretty broke. If you hang around Ivey... he's always "broke" lol.
What about sports wagering? does he bet as a "fan" or does he cap the lines as best he can?

Given that you say Phil isn't much of a math guy, what do you think gives him such a huge edge online?
He's said before that when people first play him he loses to them. Eventually, he figures out the patterns and how they think and then he breaks them down. He does it to all of the online kids who may have better fundamentals, but eventually he just adapts to what they are doing and finds a way to exploit them.

Broke as in the situation you talked about. He couldn't pay you back and had to earn the money back grinding it out. After he paid you back, did he ever run into a spot where he had to borrow cash again and grind it out paying it back?Unless I read it wrong, but it seems that the money you loaned him was all the cash he had in the world and had to grind a bankroll back up. Merry Christmas too!!!

In Foxwoods way back in the day he went broke playing $75-$150 Stud. He came to me, and asked me for a loan. A huge loan for back in the day, and he told me he couldn't pay it back. He wanted me to know that before I loaned it to him. I had faith in his ability and knew he'd be alright, so I probably gave him like half of my bankroll to play with.
Almost half your roll? If you genuinely needed it, present day, would Ivey return that favor?
not my thread but I dont think anyone will win 20 bracelets unless poker collapses and the average wsop eventg draws 200 people again.
So all the multiple winners the last several years mean nothing? Ivey's won 7 since 2003, Ferguson has won 5 since 2000 and a circuit event or two. Someone will definitely win 20 bracelets.

So you and Phil are in a car, the car goes off a cliff and hurls itself willy nilly into a pond. Maybe a lake, yea definitely a lake. The car begins a slow descent into the murky bottom, but luckily you were both protected during impact by air bags and seat belts. As the water reaches the level of the bottom of the seat, with a 20 degree down angle from front to back, you look over to Phil and say: "I got $200,000 says I can swim out of here and to the surface faster than you, but I want you to lay me 1.1:1 since you were driving.Question: "Why 1.1:1?"Isn't Phil somewhat athletic or is that a racist comment? And did you ever try to convince Phil to be a vegetarian?

Assuming Phil is one of the best 7 stud players in the world, has he became an innovator in the game? I mean is he the first player that was really successful while playing very wild and aggressive? Has the way Phil plays gave him the same kind of disrespect at the beginning in the big game or Flynt game that he got when he first started online. I think you have said that online guys that they could beat him because he didn't play the game the way they thought was correct, but eventually he crushes them. Were there a lot of people who saw Phil play in the big game and who were licking their chops to play him for a long time until they realized how good he really was?

I seem to remember Ivey once saying he never has read a book, has never gotten any coaching, etc. (think Patrick said the same thing). Pretty amazing imo. but then again back when you guys came up there really wasn't much poker info. out there. Other than playing a ton in what ways did he (you guys) get better?(anyone think Ivey will read this thread?)

Yes, I believe Ivey would loan me money if I ever needed it. As for the 20 bracelets, I definitely think it will happen.

Ivey, earlier this year made a one million dollar bet that he could go vegetarian for one year.

Back then I think a lot of people thought Ivey was a sucker because he played so many hands and was really aggressive on 3rd street. When he had the high card, he raised over 90% of the time which was unheard of. I know why he did it, and still does in certain games, but back then everyone just thought he was a loose fish. That's not the way stud was learned back then.
