A Day Of Reflection

Recommended Posts

I posted a new blog in rememberance of my father. I thought about putting this in the "Who died today" thread, but to me it's way too important for that.A day of reflection
Not sure what to say as this was so long ago. But it is a real tragedy and obviously still haunts you, so condolences to you and yours.I'm gonna suggest you talk to someone or find a way to put this to rest and be happy somehow. Your Dad served the community, sacrificed for the greater good, and that was a great thing indeed.

Very sad and beautiful blog entry. You should know I'm a race fan too. I get it through my dad, who took me to my first race at Bristol when I was nine.I lost my dad (also suddenly, also violently, though he wasn't murdered) when I was 19. I was a little older than you, so it was maybe better for me, but he had raised me as a single parent, so it was just me and him, which was maybe a little harder. In all honesty, I have nothing to say to you. There's nothing I can say. It just hurts like hell. I know it does, and although it eases with time, it never goes away when you expect to see your dad again the next day and you never do again. My dad told me I would see him Monday as he dropped me off with my grandparents. Instead, I think it was Tuesday when I was handed a box with his ashes.Believe me, I wish I had all kinds of wise words to offer, but I just don't. All I can do is sit beside you for a while in silence and hope it helps. I'm sorry.P.S. My father died just two days apart from yours, on December 18 (1988). And in one of those strange coincidences that happen in family history, my grandfather also died on December 18, exactly six years later. It was the same day of week and even the same time of day as my dad. I'll bet you hate Christmas the way I hate Christmas.
