Two wordsBob CiaffoneThe CoachThat's 4 words though
I kinda disagree with that. I'm not a huge fan of Bob and or Jim Brier's. It's funny actually. One of the first posts I ever made here, dealt with looking for a mentor. I cautioned people to understand that you will get different advice from various people. I hope this guy finds what he is looking for.

Steve, how many events is Brett going to play in the WSOP? I saw that he had a good number of cashouts last year.I will be playing 41 events, minus final tables that prevent me from enetering one. I'm not sure about Steve. Also, to the original poster, Steve and I talked, and are willing to schedule a week with you for "Intensive Training" . Brett

LOLIt was much more bullshitting than actual advice. Still fun though. But he gave me more advice geared towards me being an amateur among lots of pro's. What would be great is if I could learn to play that insane style. (I'm trying though)

Sorry this is slightly off topic, but it is my first post and I am trying.. I am looking to enter 3 WSOP events.. unfortunately they are back-to-back-to-back. I'd like to pre-register for all 3, but am worried about what happens in the outside chance that I make a final table. Can I get a refund on the next day's event that has already been paid for, or just have to get blinded out?Anyone know? Thanks!!

you get blinded out. That wouldn't be so bad either, because you'd have made a final table :-) . Luck to you, and I hope you make a TV table

Brett- great to see you join up here. If you ever have the time, could you post up hands from the limits you play in the strat section, and give us thinking on them so we can see what mid/high stakes play is like. I think that stuff would be great for the players on this forum. Any tourny advice would be really cool too, okay, I'm done shilling the strat section now :club:

I didnt read all the responses, and Im sure someone has said it, but Ill be redundant about it. Why the censored would a pro worth his salt spend 40 hours to earn 5K? Come on now
Wow, that was pointless

Seriously, if you make a final table - you should not worry about being blinded out or whatever! That's called a bad situation that I hope you are blessed with. Regardless, I read that you can make subsitutions in the past. Hopefully, the Rio staff will be able to handle it. I mean for pete's sake there a re a # of pros who enter many many events. To screw them over would be... well normal (j.k.) ... but in this case it does not happen.I personally would get blinded out and enter the event late a la Hellmuth - nothing says don't f. with me more than, "sorry I'm late, I just finished at a final table".Best thing to do is contact the wsop. But, again... wouldn't that be a great problem?

some may want to try the mentoring angle. teaching is an attractive thing to do for many reasons. I personally love talking about poker etc others wouldn't teach if they were paid $1000s.But, let's just say $125/hr to have some guy hang around you while you (both) play and talk. It's a sure thing. Some pros could use the money too...

$5k = 2 1/2 Hours (1/10 day) with PhilHellmuth ... remember he is trying to price himself out of the market but people just keep paying what ever he says it costs... ($50k/day) ... LOL
That's stupid. Why would he try to "price himself out of the market"? If he doesn't want to teach then he should just say so and stick to hocking his book and poker junk on QVC.

Honestly i think your best bet is to go to a casino. Watch all the players for a long time. Find someone who is doing well and who you respect the style of, and ask them to teach you. Obviously you want to find someone at a high limit game. I mean but some guys who are 1st tier pros probably couldn't teach you as much as some other guys who are 5th tier pros; and vice versa. You have to find someone you can learn from. with all that being said, and you say you've read all the books. i'd take my five grand go to vegas and play 1/2 or 2/5. That's the best way to learn. I mean if you've read everything you already have the knowledge. All you have to do is watch what's going on around you.... watch the people.watch them and when the time is right, raise them.
Thanks for the informative post! Honestly, 1-2 and 2-5 is all I play, and Im pretty successful at it (im not tootin my own horn) . But , for me .. I used to play chess , and I learned from a GM, who had won a couple hundred k over his span, and I paid for his services accordingly. Im basing this 5k offer, off of Josh Ariehs site. I think 125.00 an hour, compared to his ... 225?.00 for a 4 hour block, group lesson .... is a good offer. And im not asking Doyle Bruson , or Hellmuth to come teach me ... just .. someone whos been around the felt, played against top players and won ... Thats all .
Why is 1-2, 2-5 all you play? All those players go tto the river, it is not rocket science that you won't lose alot if you pay to see the river. Up your stakes to 10-20 or 100NL, that will definately help, it helped me.

here are some tips:u dont play much online poker? it wont help u with your tells, but it will help u with jsut practice, which is the best solution to playing better. i suggest playing some 10/20$ entry multi table tournies on full tilt. their blind structure is most close to wsop than any other site, plus later in the tournaments they have antes, which is something u will need practice at as well.second, on your tells. get a home game going with some good players/friends. set up a video camera on you. let the camera also somewhow catch the board, so u know what hands are what. play the night regularly, then about 2weeks later (so that all is out of your system and u wont remember which hands are which) watch the video tape to spot your tells.

3 years later , no tutor. The only real offers I received , were a phone call from Dutch boyd, but when I talked to him he seemed really drunk or really high. Gavin griffin got in contact with me as well , nothing ever came about. I shoulda went with gavin.
