I finally decided to quit my job today. It's a very stressful job with long hours and I've honestly wanted to quit for a long time now. I have quite a bit of savings, stocks, and my 401K, so money wise I'm not really worried. I have decided to really dedicate the next 6-8 months doing nothing but playing poker and enjoying life. This is not my declaration of "going pro" cause I'm far from that and I really have no intention of playing poker as my profession (although it would be sweet :club: ) I plan on going back to school in the fall and finishing my degree. After that, who knows. It is such a liberating feeling. Its scary not knowing what lies ahead, but thats what makes it so rewarding. Just wanted to share that with everyone. If anyone has done anything like this before, I'm sure you can relate.See you all at the tables!-Josh

Good luck man.Not sure what "quite a bit" equates to, but for your own sake, make sure you've analyzed this through and through. It's easy to be short-sighted when it comes to savings when your short-term desires are being fulfilled.Obv your 401k should be a moot point here (except for the added capital you won't be adding in while unemployed) as you shouldn't be touching it at this point anyways. As you also don't want to be set up for 6-8 months off, at a pace that would pretty much tap you out, unless you are comfortable with that AND know you'll be able to get work back at anytime. That said I can totally respect not wanting to live to work. Life entirely on work's terms isn't living.Anyways, again best of luck and just wanted to throw a couple food for thoughts out there.

I appreciate the advice. It's definitely going to be temporary until I go back to school. I know a few places where I can always find work if necessary so if worse comes to worse. But I definitely was living life based on work's terms and I was just sick of it. I want to find a profession I enjoy, regardless of the pay.

$250 in rent? Where do you live, Calcutta? Also, regarding the xxx spending money, if you are short on cash there is plenty of free porn out there.

LOL, I live in a condo (owned by my best friend) It's a 2 bedroom 2 bath. Both of our girlfriends live with us, so that makes our rent a lot cheaper.

Heya...coupla things...What job did you do that was so painful? If I were you, I would reassess the grocery figure and put a specific figure on the "spending money". Look at it this way: You go out just ONCE in a month to a restaurant and then out to a bar for a couple of drinks afterwards and you're talking about 40-50 right there. I'm not saying put limits on yourself, but you really need to be brutally honest about what you are likely to spend in a month on things that aren't set (like rent, cellphone, utilities). You can do it this way: Save every receipt you spend on EVERYTHING that doesn't include rent, utils, phone. And I mean everything...Stick them in a box. At the end of the month, count it up and you'll have a realistic overview. Do that every month. Why do I say this? Because it's easy for things to go over budget. For example, you go spend $100 on groceries in one shot, but are you taking into account the tomato you picked up for BLT's? The impulse purchase of fries from that street vendor? The pastries you bought having coffee with that chick you cpiked up in WalMart?

Dude, you have such a rare opportunity that I wish i had when i quit my job and played poker. You have like zero expenses, and U.S. citizenship. So because of that, seriously... dump your g.f. (or bring her) but move to vegas man!Pack up a bag, your car.. if you dont have a car, just pack a bag and buy a bus ticket. and get to it. Its cheap to rent/live in vegas and the fish are plenty

I am so jealous of people here who have a monthly nut of ~$600. My monthly nut is over 3 times that amount. :club:
