See I don't think that all of their lives are worse off. John is getting married and still has a relationship with his father. Jack has a son and they get along now. Some are bad but not all of them.

And some are alive, as compared to dead, so that's better too.

I wonder if the alt-timeline is like a (I can see a graph in my mind that would illustrate this better, but I don't know what it's called...) sort of individually applied reflection thing.That is...if Ben's life in the Island timeline is getting worse, his alt-timeline is getting better and so on...Locke is dead, so his alt-life is pretty good...Not sure if that's accurate at all...just playing with ideas.

That's an interesting idea, and all the mirror motifs seem to back it up. Certainly the two worlds are connected in an odd way, as evidenced by Jack bleeding in the airplane bathroom, Sun pausing for a moment in the alternate world after she hit her head on the island, and then being unable to speak English on the island, etc etc

since they seem to be interconnected maybe the two lines will merge at the end in some way. that would be way cooler than the alternate just being a reset.

Does anybody besides me suspect that Jacob and The Man in Black could be the same person? We see them together once before The Man in Black is Locke, and it's not a huge stretch to find some hints that they're indeed one and the same. I think the SameGuy theory is an underdog, but not a longshot.Also, what's the deal with the stuff MiB said about his mom? That has to be important.

Yeah, it's almost certainly going to be very important. It will end up being something like MiB is Aaron and his crazy mother is Claire or something. Which is possible if the island is completely cyclical in time, which I think is a possibility.

This would be the 'mystical ending' where good and evil are revealed to be two sides of the very same coin; the two potentialities that exist within every person. I think its a strong possibility.

there have been lots of hints that different possibilites exist within each person. the whole show is about that.however IMO that's a different question than whether Jacob and MiB are discrete entities or not. they certainly seem to be so far, with the island as a containment facility for MiB and jacob as its caretaker. also it remains to be seen whether jacob is really "good".

Watch the Opening Scene from the Season 5 finale, with Jacob and the Man in Black on the beach. I remember seeing a few things there that made me think of the idea in the first place. I'm not sold on the theory, really, but if anybody else sees a few of the same things I did without prompting, maybe it will gain some traction. Again, I think this theory is less likely to be correct than incorrect, but I was just throwing it out there.

my guess is Jin...supposedly, Jacob has been watching all the candidates since their childhood...if it was Sun, I would think she would be refered to as "Paik"(sun's maiden name) in the light house instead of Kwon? who knows tho...

Quite right...and I may be off about their child, but we know there's always been something special regarding children and the Island (Little Boy Ben, Aaron, Walt, Kwon conception...andd what about those two kids from the Temple...)Lotsa mystery...And who is Aaron's father?

I felt exactly the same way. About the 20 minute mark I said to my wife, "this is kind of boring", then it just took off from there.

The season had been pretty hit-or-miss for me. Looking back at the temple stuff now, those characters/episodes barely served a purpose. But my one hope for the final season was that Desmond would be back and would play a significant role in how things turn out. Check. At first, I thought it would be pretty hilarious if they had this alternative reality concept that didn't resolve anything and the only point was that these characters' lives would have all intersected in some way no matter what. But now that it seems like they're pushing towards both realities meeting up, I'm very curious to see how they do it.* Also, creepy Eloise and Faraday. YES. Don't know if they'll be back again, but I loved their parts in the last episode. I guess my biggest question at this point would be: why was Desmond so emotionless after returning from the alternate reality? He was very Sayid-like. Not in an evil sense, but it just seemed like he was completely empty and was content to just do whatever anybody said. * - But if they want to do this and convince ALL of the alternate reality characters that they're not living the life they're supposed to live, they have very little time left to do it.

I like how at the stadium where Penny was at the top of the stairs, and Desmond was on the right on the bottom...Penny started walking down the stairs and Desmond started walking to the same point...From the view of the camera, I thought of the illustration Faraday had just shown Desmond on the 2 time-lines.When the 2 of them met together at the same point, hands were extended like we have seen in previous episodes, and when they shook hands (I think) the 2 time-lines came together for Desmond.Now (again, I think) he knows about both time-lines and is now going to try to let everyone know about it...or maybe he will try to do what he can to make one of the time-lines the only time line (obv the one where he is with Penny).Very good episode...I still think both time-lines are just going to end up at the same point at the end.
