This hand came up the other night and me and my buddy had a pretty long discussion/argument about it, so i figured i'd throw it on here and see how some of you wouldve played it.StacksHero (roughly $750)Villain (roughly $600)Hero is in Hijack with 77Villain is in cutoffPreflopFolds around to Hero, who raises to $10, Villain min raises to $20, Hero callsFlop (2 players)A29-rainbowHero?Some other information about the hand, villain is your typical average player at this level (loose-passive), i've only seen him make one raise preflop in the session and it was 4X. His posture and breathing, coupled with the small raise, in this hand leads me to believe he has a big hand. Sorry about not being able to remember the suits in this hand, but it was from a few days ago, and the suits were irrelevant.

He probably has KK but will call your flop bet anyway, and then you'll both check it down because he's scared you have the A and you're scared his call on the flop was a trap with AA.

yea pretty muchcurious but how can you have a long discussion about this hand? you've got a $40, over $500 behind, and you're on a board which neither of you probably likes?maybe you bet, he called w/AA, and you went broke on a 7 turn?

Well....i guess i shouldve put what i did on the flop to get some more discussion, because this is where my buddy and I had different views on it.Hero checks, villain bets $35, Hero raises to $110, villain calls.Turn 9Do we give up or fire again?

board pairing is horrible and does not fold out hardly any aces out there and that is what we wanna steal from on turn, so no

1.) how is board pairing horrible? board pairing is definitely good here.2.) you really think the villain has AK or AQ? This is at a live casino, not online, very rarely do i see people 3 bet with anything other than 99+

the board pairing is horrible because if villain liked his hand on the flop then he probably still likes it on the turn. if he has a big ace then your value-raising range has just shrunk. Now there's only one combination of 99 which you can hold as opposed to 3. I doubt you're raising this flop with T9, so it's not like the 9 affects your range. yes this can be AK/AQ. Maybe not AQ but definitely AK. It can also be aces full.if you think you can bluff him off qq/kk with a second barrel then go for it. it seemed to have worked so nice job

as for how I would've played it, raise/call(as you did) pf, check/fold flop
This is normally how i play it too, but i noticed something about him when the flop came out and i was pretty certain he didnt like the ace, so i decided to get creative. What you said about the board pairing being bad, does make sense the way you put it, at the time i thought it was good for me, but now i think youre correct in it being bad for me.

paired board doesn't change any hands that where happy with this flop ( unless villain was hero calling flop with an under pocket pair to the ace or something). A good turn card to barrel would be cards that made hands don't like to see, like say 3,4,5 that put a flush draw out there , and complete a st8 (which are hard hands to rep by you here). The problem is, not many cards unless they go runner runner are going to be good bluff cards the flop is too dry not leaving any wet draws to hit you know..No aces are folding this turn, and that is the primary kind of hand villain has now. If the 9 was the top pair this would be a different story

This is wrong...AK is not folding, AQ may be folding depending on the player, any other ace is likely folding for fear of kicker problems, but like i stated i do not believe he has AK or AQ or any ace for that matter. My read in the hand was that villain had only five hands in his range after calling the flop, AA,KK, QQ, JJ, or 1010...

but you are correct rumsey in the paired board being bad for me.Anyway, here's how the rest of the hand progressed.I bet $200 on turn, villain called after some deliberationThat sucked, i really thought he had KK or QQ, but with the smooth call and the deliberation, i figure it must be aces full now. Even tho his physical tells still scream weakness, which now i think he may have been throwing reverse tells at me.river was a 5i checked, he checkedand tabled KKThis made me sick to my stomach...he told me he called cuz he had a "feeling" that i didnt have an ace or 9. I found out as the night progressed, that those "feelings" of his were very profitable, lol
