How Do Pro Cash Game Players Pay Themselves?

Recommended Posts

Maybe a strange question but I was just curious. Obviously, you need to eat, pay the mortgage, and handle other expenses...do players typically cash out a % of their profit on a monthly or bi-weekly basis? Or how do most players typically do this while maintaining/growing their bankroll at the same time?

c'mon....can i get a serious answer please?
You did. You just didn't recognize it as one and thus neglected to use the prompt you were given to think about and develop the answer which would teach you the most about the question you asked in the first place. Alternate AnswerI just get wire transfers anytime I dip below the level of money that I am comfortable living with in my bank accounts or if I plan on making a large purchase. It's really quite similar to how anyone "pays themselves," it's just that we have more control over the details of when, how much, etc.

Most people take regular withdrawals as they need it. I personally like the idea of looking at what your overall win rate is, and taking a percentage of that. So say you win at 3 bb/100, then take out 0.5 bb/100 every week or something similar, as it would give you motivation to play more hands, as you know you are paying yourself so much for every hand that you play.

Have you ever tried this? And were you playing poker professionally at the time?

This.Part of the problem with playing poker is that you have money spread out everywhere. Half a dozen sites, moneybookers, neteller, casinos, bank accounts and some cash for home games. But like most people I have most of my uninvested money on one site and in one bank account, and I reload the bank account when it gets short. That's... really all there is to it.
