I was officially diagnosed with swine flu yesterday, albeit about four days after I kicked it. Let me tell you, it was no picnic. I plan on eat a copious amount of bacon to punish the wretched animals. To spread the love around, I am prepared to offer a few stakes to a 4.40 180 person tourney on StarsJust post Stars name and city, keep us updated with some interesting hands, and when you win, it's 50/50 nsb of course. If you want to provide pictures of pretty ladies too, why the heck would I stop you?

I've known two people now who have died from swine flu. One last year before it was all the rage to get it. One last month, I was at a party and this dude was there with his wife and two daughters. One week later he was dead. Crazy stuff. Glad you were able to kick it.

I don't really want to get one because if the immune system can't handle the small dose - you could get a lot worse than just really sick...I think I'll take my chances.

It sucked, don't get me wrong, but I had no underlying health issues so it wasn't 'difficult' to kick if you know what I mean.Isolated myself with Xbox, TV and books, three days later it was mostly gone.I've developed an ear infection since, doc says that's because the flu attacks the immune system and allows other crap to get in, but overall I feel 95% and that's damn goodAnd I guess all the usual stakees sleep in on Saturdays?

Mulchick (Auckland)The swine flu needs to be dominated imo. AA > KK style.
JSpencer would find a way to lose that...

The flu that is in a flu shot (whether it be swine flu or regular flu) is dead. It cannot infect you. Urban myths are fun sometimes, but this one is dangerous.

This is neither supposed to be legal nor medical advice; it is merely my layman's understanding of the process: Your immune system is still going to fight the foreign stuff that it has been injected with, so vaccinations are by no means without risk. Often the benefits obviously outweigh the risk, but in case of swine flu, I'm also not sold: It seems to be a rather unlikely thing to catch and hardly worth the potential trouble of getting a flu shot.

At least you admit your ignorance. The immune system activates to rid itself of a foreign body. So the T-cells learn the shape of the dead virus in the vaccination. Which is why, if you are infected in the future, the immune system recognizes it and kills it faster. The vaccination cannot infect you. It is flat out impossible. The virus is dead. Period. If your immune system is so weak that it cannot eject a dead foreign virus from your body, you have a serious immune deficiency disorder and should be seeing some specialists.

Ignorance? Hardly. You are misreading what people wrote and write.

And who in this thread, claims that it could? Nobody!

Whatever, dude. Go out and get every vaccination in the world. It is a well known fact that vaccinations itself aren't without risk. If you care to look up pox vaccination for instance, you'll see that the figure is 1-2 fatalities per 1 million vaccinations. Granted, that is very low and certainly it is important to get vaccinations as a general rule. However, it is always a risk assessment of vaccination risk vs risk of contracting a disease and the chance of that disease being fatal. In case of the swine flu, it remains to be seen whether it is an actual necessity to get vaccinated - so far media reports seem to indicate that contraction and fatality rates are far below those for flu. There is no need to twist words to "win" an argument here.
