Is My Hand Dead?

I play in a bi-weekly poker game. We were 7 handed when it folded to the cut off. He was short stacked. He opened shoved. I called from the small blind with AJ.I thought the big blind said, "Fold." So I exposed my hand. The big blind said call he also said that he saw my cards.The all-in player said my hand was dead because it was exposed. Is this correct?I said ok. But then the all-in player said it wasn't a big deal.The big blind ended up winning the hand.My hand should have been declared dead?Thanks in advance,Joe

where the game is held is kind of important but not really99% of card rooms/house games would not declare that hand deadi would say 100% but of course 'house rules' varyat the most strict casino cash games or tournaments your hand may be declared dead if your cards touch any board cards or players' cards or the muckbut i think you got rolledpretty sure the bb just has to make his/her decision knowing your hand, simple as thatto keep players from exposing hands prematurely there should be penalties BUT killing the hand is stupidedit**ps. it sounds like the cut off had a worse ace or KJ and is a total pos.

you were already called the all in, so no. Did BB have you covered? i think you still have the option of a redeal i home games bc this isnt a casino right?

The assumption here is that both you and the BB have chips left. If so, then yes, your hand is dead. You can't show your cards to an opponent like that, collaboration against the player who's all in. You're not heads up in this case.

This is the correct ruling in most casinos...but in a home game the guy that is hosting the game makes the rules, so it'd be up to him/her

Showing cards from a live hand during the action injures the rights of other players still competing in an event, who wish to see contestants eliminated. A player in a multihanded pot may not show any cards during a deal. Heads-up, a player may not show any cards unless the event has only two remaining players, or is winner-take-all. If a player deliberately shows a card, the player may be penalized (but his hand will not be ruled dead). Verbally stating one’s hand during the play may be penalized.
