Sickaments! 1 billion dollars for playing golfhttp://blogs.golf.com/presstent/2009/10/fo...l#ixzz0SiPI3qMUIt's good to be Tiger Woods. Forbes.com is reporting that Woods is the first athlete to reach $1 billion in earnings, beating out Michael Jordan and Michael Schumacher.Woods earned more than $10.5 million in giant cardboard checks this year on the PGA Tour and added another $10 million last weekend by winning the FedEx Cup. According to Forbes, that little bonus was enough to push Woods over the $1 billion mark.Forbes has been tracking athlete earnings since before Tiger turned pro. Woods had earned a cumulative $895 million going into 2009, by our estimates, from prize money, appearance fees, endorsements, bonuses and his golf course design business. If you add his $10.5 million in 2009 prize money, the FedEx bonus and his take so far this year from his more than $100 million in annual off-the-course earnings, Woods' career earnings are now 10 figures. The article points out that only Woods's accountant truly knows if he's a billionaire, but one thing is certain: Tiger's money-making potential won't slow down anytime soon. The most stunning part is that Woods is only 33 years old--he might have 15 years of competitive golf left in him, and 30-plus years of designing courses. This is only the first billion for Woods.Woods has been the highest-paid American athlete for years, and the competition isn't even close. In this year's Fortunate 50, SI's annual ranking, Woods's estimated total earnings were nearly $100 million, far exceeding Phil Mickelson in second ($53 million) and LeBron James in third ($42.4 million). Amazingly, Woods made even more the year before, according to SI -- $128 million.

This part interested me. So I looked up how much he makes designing golf courses. And while I couldn't find an average number or anything like that, I did find that he was paid $25 million to design a course in Dubai.

I'm suprised that Jordan hasn't got there yet.Tiger definitely deserves to be the highest paid player in all of sports, 1 bil seems overkill though lol.
As much of a gambling degenerate as jordan is, I'm surprised he isn't broke.

yeah, all I'm saying is he'd invested the money he gambled away into 5% annual funds, he'd be a billionare now.

But the article isn't saying Tiger Woods is a billionaire (or even that Michael Jordan isn't), it's just saying that's total career earnings.
yeah, he probably spent at least some of his earnings from the last 10 years by now

Damn...a BILLION dollars. that means Tiger could be buying sports franchises.Imagine if he bought Detriot's baseball team. he could rename it from Detroit Tigers to Tiger's Detroit :club:

This maybe the highest rated golf event ever...I bet CBS is jumping for joy right now..A possible Masters without Tiger probably scared them to death and now this, a media circus.

I share Rogers Hornsby's sentiment here.

I don't want to play golf. When I hit a ball, I want someone else to go chase it.
On the other hand, a guy who earns a billion dollars can buy a lot of whores, as Tiger has demonstrated.

He's worth a billion dollars...... wow.... If I was Tiger Woods I woulda had a totally different press conference. It would go something like this......"I’m Tiger Woods, but first and foremost I’m a man, I’m worth a billion dollars, not a million, a ****en billion, so **** Nike, **** Gatorade, **** Gillette, **** At& T, and **** my wife!, If she didn’t marry me, she’d be a high priced escort in Sweden right now. I’m Tiger Woods, I’m a man, and on a side note, **** golf too, I’m worth a billion dollars bitch! I’m Oprah rich, **** all ya’ll, and stay the **** out my business! Peace!"

Just put a $10 side bet with a friend of mine that Tiger would finish outside the top 10 in the US Open.I really don't like this bet, but with the way he's been playing it's gonna be difficult to compete ... on the other hand it is Pebble Beach and he knows and loves this course.Thoughts?
