FCP Bob 1,311
When I read this story the first thing that crossed my mind was whether a certain heavily armed FCPer was visiting Texas. What I take from stories like this is there is a lot of danger in playing in Underground games and it's just really too bad that politicians in places like Texas don't allow live legal poker clubs. I've never been robbed myself but I have good friends who have been at underground games or in the parking lot of them.I don't want to get into a whole should you pack heat to a game debate but if I were going to a game in Texas I would probably feel better if I trusted the organizer of the game and he or his security were armed. That isn't the same as a fun home poker game in somebody's home but a commercial game in an industrial unit. There's also a video report at the newspaper link.http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metrop...an/6600538.html Police: Player at card game kills robbery suspectBy DALE LEZONHOUSTON CHRONICLESept. 3, 2009, 7:45PM A poker player shot to death a man who tried to rob him and others during a card game in southwest Houston early Thursday, police said.Three masked men ambushed a card game occurring inside an unmarked office park unit behind a shopping center in the 5600 block of Hillcroft just south of Westpark, police said. Merby 3
And that's what makes America great.A guy is illegally playing cards in a building and gets to shoot someone who tried to rob him.And at worst he will get tried for the card playing.Actually, the story says that it might be a perfectly legal card game:De La Cruz said the gambling matter would be turned over to the vice squad, but it wasn't clear whether the game was illegal. In Texas, there's nothing wrong with money changing hands in poker and other games as long as someone isn't taking a cut.Nevertheless, the vice squad will at least investigate. Of course, all Texans make unfair generalizations, so the vice squad will no doubt generalize the underground card game as illegal and arrest the players.
