nhlfan 0
Leasing is crazy... I mean... you are really pissing away just a ton of money... but if you can afford it, and you enjoy it.... go for it. (also, I don't ever think about financing, because I always pay cash for my vehicles (which are always used cheap American cars)... so it makes sense that you may be forced to choose the best financing situation.)Actually, if you KNOW you will want a new vehicle in 2-3 years, leasing is a better option than buying. That being said, putting money DOWN on a lease is one of the worst things you can do financially. You are really just making extra payments. My wife leases her vehicles (always a Saturn, the best american made car out there IMO, especially customer service), I purchaed my Pathfinder. People here are talking about resale and this and that, but the bottom line is that a vehicle is NOT an investment no matter what. You decide how much you want to spend and pretty much are throwing that money away anyway. It's like buying dinner, do you want Taco Bell or Morton's? They both do the same thing, it's just quality and/or name brand/bragging rights. Buy what you like and can afford, bottom line.

I see these commercials, like the one just on, where you can get an Arcadia for $369/mo on a 3 yr lease with $2500 down. No way I ever put more than $1000 down. Part of the money down on that $800 is fees and ist months payment as well so it probably only was about $350 down.

If you have the money to just pay cash for the vehicle you are going to buy and are confident that you will be able to do that again when you need another, then yea, this advice and the rest of this post is fine. Realize though that 90%+ people finance their cars, and the residual value is going to be extremely important if and when they are wanting to get out of it before the life of the loan expires. I didn't purchase it right off the lot, but only financed 8K of it and paid it off within 12 months. I did a TON of research and did 10 weekend long test drive of different vehicles before I decided on the Pathfinder, because I knew I would be driving it until the wheels fall off, so I guess I wasn't like most of the car buying population. That being said, I would really love to buy a Mini Cooper Type S, and no, I'm not gay!
