Newbie Rakeback/security Questions

Recommended Posts

I'm not new to poker, but i'm new to the online thing. After talking to some people who play online, I have decided to open an account at PS. Some people on this site were nice enough to educate me on the rakeback, but I think Stars is set up a little different? Anyway, can you help me out with (3) quick questions?1) So, if I open an account with Stars, do I need to do anything beforehand to receive "rakeback" (or whatever's equivalent on Poker Stars)? 2) Looks like E-Check is the only way to do business there. Ever run into any problems?3) I've read about security issues like software/data mining type scams that go on. What's the environment like at PS? Does it happen everywhere? If so, are there certain games/formats that I should avoid? Can you confidently play higher stakes or big tourneys without thinking something shady is going on?Thanks again.

1) There is no such thing as rakeback on stars, only their vip program. However if you sign up with a rakeback site, some will offer freerolls for all players signed up through their site, such as raketherake (see sig), which offers $7500 monthly.2) Can't comment, I use moneybookers, which is not open to americans.3) Pokerstars is one of the top sites, and takes security very seriously. Atlthough there are datamining sites that offer stats, pokerstars does have some rules in place, such as discouraging people from saying what your stats are like to a table, and does have great security measures in place to prevent cheating. If you have any other questions, feel free to pm me, I'd be happy to help.

Thank you very much. Is the VIP program based strictly on frequency of play? Do you have to sign up for it? What exactly does it entitle a player to?

It is automatic no matter where you sign up to get the vip program. The $7500 monthly freeroll is exclusive to raketherake. VIP program gives you frequent player points at various rates, based on total play. If rake for a pot is 40 cents or greater, you get one point vip point, if it reaches $3 you get 2. This is whether or not you are in a pot. Frequent player points are based on the VIP points you earn, and depending on your status level, you can get multipliers such as 150 % FPP'S per VIP point. FPP's can be used to enter tournaments, or buy things in the store. For quite a few points, it is possible to trade in for cash rewards. Even as a small player though, you can get into some satellites to tournaments as low as 5 fpp's I believe.

Great. Thank you. I assume the E-check deposit/withdrawal method is ok. Everything else at PS seems to be on the up-and-up, so I assume it will be ok. I appreciate your help.
Yeah as far as I know it is, since pokerstars is the #1 site on the net. If you choose raketherake (from sig), and need any help there, let me know.

Don't want to sound naive, but what is: "raketherake (from sig)" and where would i find that?

At the bottom of my post, it says Get rakeback..., that is a link to a site called raketherake.com, which I had mentioned above offers an additional $7,500 freeroll monthly if you sign up to pokerstars through them. They offer other sites, with rakeback, but since pokerstars doesn't allow rakeback, they can only offer the freeroll. It doesn't cost you anything to sign up through them, and can provide an additional benefit other than signing up to pokerstars directly.
