LongLiveYorke 38
It will be tough at times, but it won't be the hardest journey of your life. It's just leaves wrapped in paper.Good luck, sir!

solderz 0
I quit smoking a couple years ago and used Welbutrin. Prescribed for depression and quitting smoking. I used it for 2 months and have never smoked since. Helped alot with the short temper, which I was a major side effect of quitting for me.
SBriand 4
It will be 3 years next month for me. I just went out and bought a box of nicorette gum and chewed it anytime I had a craving. After a couple weeks I only chewed it for really strong cravings and by 4 weeks and only going through a box and a half of gum I was able to not chew the gum and haven't smoked since. MaxStPolish 4
Good luck sir.I actually have been passively trying to quit eating meat over the last couple months. So far it's only been a stiff reduction in my consumption, and the notion of 86'ing it completely seems like impossible. But if nothing else, it gives me some respect for people trying to quit things in general.....because it's tougher than non-smoking me just saying "dude, it's bad for you, stop doing it".And any over/under on sickboy's impomptu decision to join superjon in quitting smoking?? LOL.

Pot Odds RAC 23
A while back I cut Coke (as in Cola) and Coffee out of my diet as I whipped my old ass back into shape. I really gained an understanding of what people going thru "real" addictions faced. Sort of like realizing for the first time that a migrane wasn't just a "bad headache" and depression isn't just "feeling really sad".Good luck in kicking the habit.Question for you smokers and former smokers: How/Why did you start in the first place? SBriand 4
Question for you smokers and former smokers: How/Why did you start in the first place?Everyone around me smoked my whole life. My parents, their friends, and then my friends in high school so it was just inevitable I guess. I still miss it sometimes but I think I have tried to smoke 3 times since quitting and it just makes me sick now, which I guess is a good thing.
Sick Boy 0
Question for you smokers and former smokers: How/Why did you start in the first place?I started when I was 11. SuperJon 175
Day 1 is pretty much in the books. No smoking for me so far.Had some mild headaches, but overall felt pretty good. I also started taking some One a Day Energy vitamins, which seemed to have a nice effect.I had about 8 pieces of Nicorette today, all when I had a craving for a smoke. slink 1
I tried quitting last year, but found playing on-line and quitting smoking to be near impossible (after a BB I just wanted a smoke so badly and would go to the liquor store to get a pack). I plan on quitting after labor day.GL to you both.

grocery_mony 9
What worked for me is I waited till I had a week off from work and quit the first day of my week off. I think most people wait until they are getting back from a vacation or till after a weekend when your back at work and the job stress and the first couple days without smoking dont mix. Alot better going back to work with a week of being smoke free under your belt to cope with any job stress. I used the patch and followed the system exatly as they recomended. One thing to keep in mind is you will for sure get a urge to smoke(my urge didnt come till about 3 months in about a month after I was done with the patch) but that urge will pass within minutes so just resist. Quitting was actually easier than I thought it would be.

Now you've always smoked while playing poker, so it's going to be hard enough anyways to just play without smoking.Would it be easier or harder to be playing in a smoke-free environment? I just assumed easier. But then again, does 2nd hand smoke give you any sort of "kick". Or does the free floating smoke just enhance your own need of a cigarette. I assume the latter, but never really thought about it.

I started getting really irritable, but I didn't even smoke half the pack, and got rid of it after I got home.To answer your question. It's not hard to play at Hard Rock, because the actual poker room is non-smoking. Now I do spend a lot of time at a pool hall near me, and they do allow smoking. I was there the other night, but it wasn't too bad.

PokerTales 0
Quitting anything that has you connected to the satisfaction of smoking is very difficult to accomplish. When you get in a car you'll want one. When you finish a meal you'll want one. When you finish having sex, you'll want one, maybe two....Good Luck...Oh no, my first post is about quitting....I need a smoke....
