FCP Bob 1,311
Maybe dental care should be made seperate or something, I don't know. Dental care aside though, the NHS is a fantastic service. This is coming from an anti-socialism, right wing, slightly snobbish-at-times UK male. Here in Ontario Dental Care isn't included in the Provincial Health plan so most people have private insurance that covers dental and prescription drugs since most drugs are also outside the system for most people. What happens is that dental care is very much like health care in the US in the fact that many of the working poor whose job doesn't include a health plan don't have any coverage and neglect preventative care and then only deal with things when it gets bad. People with good insurance or people who can afford to pay for themselves get great fast service from dentists while many of the working poor don't get good dental service since they either can't afford it or choose not to pay for it and then things end up more expensive in the end when only problems are dealt with. hblask 1
What happens is that dental care is very much like health care in the US in the fact that many of the working poor whose job doesn't include a health plan don't have any coverage and neglect preventative care and then only deal with things when it gets bad.I wish my dental insurance did not cover preventative care, because it's ridiculous to buy insurance for predictable manageable expenses. I could probably cut the cost of my dental care to a couple dollars per month if it didn't include routine exams and cleaning -- an expense I know I'm going to incur every six months. So instead of paying a couple dollars per month + out of pocket routine care, I'm paying a couple dollars per month + (cost of routine care + 3% insurance charge).
El Guapo 8
I haven't read every post in this thread so I'm not sure if it's been noted, but I hope that you guys know that we do have private healthcare in this country too. It's not like some sub-standard, dirty hospital is forced upon us if we don't want it, and that we're all made to wait for weeks on end for treatment. We have a choice. You pay, you go private. Sorted... What's the problem? simple - I have to pay for govt option and private option...so I pay twiceAnd the fact that only ~8% of people in Britain can afford private medical care.
