I started reading this yesterday and finished today. First of all, thanks Brad for sharing. Walters article was very thought provoking. In regards to Leslie's release, I think the biggest issue is Manson himself. If one of the three girls (women) were released, then what do you do with Manson. Keep in mind, he never killed anyone. Unfortunately, the three women are the sacrificial lambs to keeping Manson incarcerated. I am sure the parole board or the prosecutor will never admit to it, but it must be on the forefront of their minds... release the girls then you would have to release Manson. As far as your article Brad, I really enjoyed it. I am assuming you and I are close in age. My parents had the book as well and I remember flipping through the photographs, fascinated and horrified. I was perplexed on how these middle class kids could fall under the spell of Manson and commit such heinous acts. I had nightmares too and always felt an uneasiness when I would see that book.Should the Manson girls be paroled? Probably so. Unfortunately, I don't think it will happen unless if Manson passes away.

It was more about the lack of thought in his argument. Thanks though.
I understood what you meant, and it was an extraordinary fine read. yes, chrozzo is exactly a thoughtless, knee jerk conservative that throws out absolutes and catchphrases rather than actually forming coherent arguments.

Pretty sure "thoughtless" and "incoherent arguments" applies to just about everything chrozzo has ever posted, conservative or not.Edit: Dammit, speedz.

thanks bro!yeah...i was impulsive the other night/or last night...i forget and am too lazy to look a tthe post datei read most of both. i get that Manson didnt personally murder anyone...ive always known that. and i do feel sorry for those who were brainwashed into killing for him, or whatever he meant it to be. I know a lot of people, even today still..in their right minds, are "representing" him and those are the people who need to be stopped.Manson himself, although personally i think he deserved the death penalty but barely escaped it, should remain in prison til death....if he was out then he would have a greater reach among his supporters and obv more murders would follow (one can assume).i know im not very eloquent when typing, especially after 5 beers, but i hope you all appreciate this more than my last posts.hi

How much did you really read? The article is about Leslie Van Houten and her release, not Manson. My comment is that I think that the murderers will stay in prison until Manson dies, not because they are under his spell but more out of fear that if they were release, that it may be tougher to keep him incarcerated. I serious doubt you read anything more than this thread. Either that, or you have absolutely no comprehension skills.

During my conversation posted in Wang's thread, I had a funny moment with myself when I said the relationship was going "pretty well" and she questioned that characterization of said relationship. I shit you not, in my head I said "Dammit, Joey Joe Joe." I think I may have even smiled a bit, which didn't help my cause. Sadly, I'll now think of you (really your avatar) whenever I catch my self saying "pretty ____".

There's a part in Bugliosi's book that says he had to show that these girls had a predisposition for murder with or without Manson's influence. I'd say probably Susan Atkins demonstrated this the most in some other incidents with police and others. But this could well be part of why parole boards really don't want to release them. I have no problem with them being incarcerated for life since they originally received the death sentence and considering the inequities of the application of the death penalty in this country, life without the possibility of parole would have been an appropriate sentence.
