Obama Health Care Press Conference

Recommended Posts

Anyone feel changed?Obama lovers loved it, Obama haters hated it, fence sitters were likely not swayed either way.Waste of time imo. He needed to hit a home run and I don;t think he said anything new. Some sort of Health reform needs to happen obviously, but this attempt is a complete disaster imo. Bloated/expensive Washington BS.I thought this group was NOT going to be Washington business as usual?

Good story to sway the republican vote I'm sure...

Senator Ted Kennedy, who is now 76 years old and was diagnosed with brain cancer in May of last year, is telling the world that nationalized medical care is "the cause of his life." He wants to see it pass as soon as possible, before he departs this vale of tears. The prospect of Kennedy's passing is viewed by the liberal press with anticipatory tears and mourning. But they are not asking the proper question by their own lights: That question -- which will be asked for you and me when we reach his age and state in life --- is this: Is Senator Kennedy's life valuable enough to dedicate millions of dollars to extending it another month, another day, another year? Because Barack Obama and Ted Kennedy agree with each other that they of all people are entitled to make that decision. Your decision to live or die will now be in their hands. Ted Kennedy is now 76. Average life expectancy in the United States is 78.06. For a man who has already reached 76, life expectancy is somewhat longer than average (since people who die younger lower the national average); for a wealthy white man it may be somewhat longer statistically; but for a man with diagnosed brain cancer it is correspondingly less. As far as the actuarial tables of the Nanny State are concerned, Kennedy is due to leave this life some time soon. The socialist State is not sentimental, at least when it comes to the lives of ordinary people like you and me.

Obama's tweet:

"Health care reform opponents scale up attacks, playing politics w/ our lives & livelihood. Fight back."
Really, are you guys all opponents of health care?Or is it that he is right and everyone else who disagrees is wrong?I guess the notion of bi-partisianship is dead now.It had a glorious 6 month run Obama, thanks for the effort?

We have had non government health care for hundreds of years. Why now is it so sudden and imminent that we must get this done immediately or we will all die in a fire.Lets take a minute to get it right if we really are going through with this.

Obama wants to pit everyone against health care as a republican that is spreading fear tactics. He's doing the same damn thing against the republicans. Government run health care will only make everything more of a hassle and probably wont' change a thing economically if we don't make other changes to make health care cheaper which is the real problem. All this plan will do is find a way to tax us and make us pay just as much for health care but in other ways. And he says he won't tax the middle class then he just wants to bankrupt his own medical system because there's not going to be any other way to pay for it.

The cost of medical care is dropping dramatically, while quality is improving.Oh wait, that's only in the parts that aren't distorted by government mandates, such as cosmetic surgery and eye care. It's the heavily regulated part where costs are increasing rapidly.Maybe if Obama takes over those areas, then there won't be anything to compare the disaster of federal intervention to, and it will be easier to force his plan on us.

When talking about how he can fund his new healthcare plan, Obama said he would fund 2/3s of it by cutting waste and redirecting funds from unneeded programs.Wouldn't it be nice if they did this first. If they KNOW there is 2/3 of a trillion dollars being wasted, wouldn't it behoove SOMEONE in DC to maybe..I don't know, crazy idea here but go with it for a second...IF YOU KNOW THERE IS $660,000,000.00 BEING WASTED...WHY NOT STOP THAT JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN?No, Obama is only going to stop that if he gets healthcare.

Obama's plan is just a different version of horrible. Cracks me up too how he said last night that he was in a rush because he got an e-mail from a couple that was going broke due to health bills. Really? He thinks rushing this piece of crap will help that couple? Did he forget that IF this thing gets passed it will take FOUR YEARS before it is implemented? Yeah...nice justification for the rush. Incredible. And lol at his Medicare/Medicade references, stating that this program needs to pass because those other 2 Government run programs are breaking the budget.Well what the HELL does he think THREE Government programs are gonna do?!!Insanity here folks, and I find it despicable how 180's the facts to the American public as if we are all stupid.

Well in his defense ... 90% of the public are stupid.

Also ... this is GOLD IMO. I have been seriously thinking about voting republican in the next election. I have voted independent since I could vote, but with all this wasteful shameful spending it seems that I may have to finally pick a side. And to my dismay i would rather vote republican than democrat. Don't get me wrong ... I am very liberal in most areas of life, but this whole healthcare thing has shaken what I believe the democrats can do. I hope that the rest of america can see this, but as stated above 90% of americans are idiots. Also 65% of statistics are made up!

Very, very good point.

I know I am generally aligned with the Conservatives, but on the key Social "Issues" I consider myself to be very Liberal.Rush made a good point the other day about "Rights". Stating that they are things that shouldn't be taken away by authority, however that doesn't mean that the Government must then GIVE you that which you have a Right to have. For example: You have a Right to own a Gun. This doesn't meant that the Government should therefore PROVIDE a gun to you. You have a right to Freedom of Speech. The Government doesn't therefore provide you a megaphone or typewriter. If you have a Right to Health Care, that doesn't mean that the Government must therefore provide Health Care for you.

I want to see a quote, and yes if this is true I absolutely cannot put on my liberal hat and play devil's advocate.

From a transcript of the news confrence.I've also pledged that health insurance reform will not add to our deficit over the next decade, and I mean it. In the past eight years, we saw the enactment of two tax cuts -- primarily for the wealthiest Americans -- and a Medicare prescription program, none of which were paid for. That's partly why I inherited a $1.3 trillion deficit. That will not happen with health insurance reform. It will be paid for. Already we've estimated that two-thirds of the cost of reform can be paid for by reallocating money that is simply being wasted in federal health care programs. This includes over $100 billion of unwarranted subsidies that go to insurance companies as part of Medicare, subsidies that do nothing to improve care for our seniors. And I'm pleased that Congress has already embraced these proposals.

Obama is treating his health care/spending spree exactly like our last president treated Iraq/the War on Terror. Making our problems out to be bigger than they are by saying we are in immediate danger and that we need to act fast or we'll die. Bush was basically saying the same things they are just a little different subjects.

I'm not up to speed on how the budget works, but it seems like he has to either be lying or retarded with that 2/3s claim.
This is the same conclusion I reach whenever I try to analyze any of his decisions so far. By the way, the mainstream media is starting to catch on to his failed economic policies, too. I've seen several passing references in the past week about how by the end of the year, unemployment and inflation could both be double digits -- a prediction I made back when he started rewarding his politically connected cronies with trillions of dollars.

One thing I have noticed, even from the smart democrats on this board (inster Balloon guy comment) that not one person has stood up to defend this proposed bill. They may say they like the idea of gov controlled health care, but nobody seems to like what is proposed. That seems pretty amazing to me.

What is there like one democrat on this board? In Nimue's poll only 3 of 32 people claimed to support the democratic party.
