Anyone Have An Idea Of How Much Ivey Cleared This Wsop?

Recommended Posts

I'm pretty sure Ivey has a system to beat craps.I am joking but I'm kinda serious too. Did ya ever think Ivey could have a system that allows him to be a long-term winner at craps? I mean, Stu Ungar must have known something about Gin Rummy that nobody else in the world knew so I guess it is possible. All I know for sure is this, Ivey is the King of Vegas.

If he does have some system, casinos would have banned him from playing a long time ago. Even pitbosses can get skittish.

I heard a rumor that he had a 5 million dollar bet with howard lederer about winning 2 bracelets in 3 years. Needless to say that Ivey won and howard is still rolling in the dough from Full Tilt.

The only advantage Ungar had over his opponents was his ability to count cards better than anyone. If you have a good memory and are half way decent at counting cards, then you can do well in Gin Rummy.

the rumor was the bet was made after his first bracelet win this year, so he would still need one more to win.

My roommate was on his craps table for a little while at the Venetian and he didn't seem to have a system. I bet it's no Al_Smooth craps system.

there's a lot more to it than that - you still have to figure out what the cards mean for the opponents hand

Well if your opponent picks up the 3d and you know the 2d and 4d are either in your hand or dead, then you can be certain he either has 3's or is taking the card on a spec. It's basically a combination of knowing what's in your hand + remembering the dead cards will help you know what your opponent holds.Let's say you're getting deep into the hand, and you draw the 8c. If you know that 2 8's are dead, but you haven't seen the 6c or 9c, then holding onto the 8c is probably the best play.

if it were that easy Ungar wouldn't have been so dominantI talked to Nolan Dalla who wrote the Unger book One of a Kind about the Gin Tournaments that he used to win and how they could ban him and he told me that they were mostly composed of senior citizens and he came in and would just destroy them and be really obnoxious about itbut nevertheless nobody denies that he was just unreal at gin - people may argue about his poker talents but every single person says he was the greatest gin player or all time - you know he was because no one would play him after a while

Yeah, I honestly believe that Ungar knew something about Gin Rummy that no one else in the world knew/knows. I mean, he was so utterly dominant in a card game (ie a game with a reasonable amount of chance) that he must've known something that no else knew. There is no card player that has come close to being as dominant as Ungar was at Gin Rummy. As for Ivey, if he did have a system, the Casino couldn't ban him. That's the beauty of it! Why couldn't they ban him? Because he's PHIL IVEY!

Does anyone know if Phil Ivey has a gold toilet if he's so damn rich :club: haha
I was at his house about 2 years ago and at that time i can assure you there was no gold toilet.Any casino can refuse to accept his wagers on craps if they like. I know there are at least 1 casino that refused his action after he went on an incredible roll. My friend rolled with him at Bellagio one night and won him about 1.7 mil.

That was his "system." He was good enough to determine what the other player was holding based on his moves to that point in the game. Then he would protect those cards that his opponent needed (by holding on to them). A lot of this is discussed in "One of A Kind." I don't think you can call it a system as much him just knowing how to play and making better decisions than his opponent.
