Jeff Shulman's Comments About Wsop

Recommended Posts

From ESPN.comJeff Shulman -- No player at this final table will inspire more debate than Shulman, the editor of Card Player magazine. Shulman has stirred controversy with his claim that he will throw the bracelet in the garbage if he wins it. "It has nothing to do with [Card Player no longer having exclusive rights to WSOP coverage]," the 34-year-old Las Vegas native said. "It's about my lack of respect for the WSOP and the management here and what they've done to the players. That said, I still wouldn't wear it if I was best friends with them. When I had a chance to win years ago, I said I wouldn't wear it. I'm shocked that people wear those ugly things.""Jeff generally says and does what he means, so if he says something, I don't doubt he's going to do it," best friend Adam Schoenfeld said. "I just see this as a professional wrestling heel turn ,and Jeff's just gonna be the bad guy, so it doesn't hurt anyone.""If I win, I'll never play at the Rio or WSOP again," Shulman said. "If I win, I'll never play poker again."He's going to keep things interesting. So, anyone know what exactly he is complaining about?

Wow, sounds like he is being a huge premadonna to me. Yea he made it to the final table by playing good pokers, but he should be grateful to Harrah's and the WSOP for giving him the opportunity to play for 8 million dollars.

He is just mad Harrahs sold the WSOP reporting rights exclusively and Card Player wasn't the chosen one. Now he's acting like a teenager who didn't get his way. That's all.

well luckily he writes a letter from the editor in card player every month, hopefully he expands on what his issues are between now and november. my guess(and purely speculation since obv i don't know any of these poker pros personally) is that he's a pretty popular guy among the pros most of them will support his stance

tbh, he does appear to be acting like a giant douche. I don't really understand what good his comments can do. It seems like he just wants the attention or to be a 'bad boy'. idk, I really don't understand why he's acting like this. Maybe it is just because he's pissed off the WSOP didn't give CardPlayer the exclusive rights or whatever, but that still doesn't explain the "I'll never play poker again" comment.

Why should he be grateful? Lets be honest Harrah's does'nt give a shit about the players, they are making a shitload of money from these tournies and they do stuff like allow the Hellmuths to have special treatment at the cost of the random no name player. If he has a beef he should go ahead and speak his mind.

QFTtotally in agreement here, they have rules for some players and rules for others there is no consistency. It should be the same rules for everyone regardless who the hell you are. I honestly hope he takes the ME down. I also guess he will not stand by his quote "

gl to him.

Point taken. What does saying I won't play in the Rio or WSOP again accomplish though. Is it because he will have a lot of money so he won't need to play? Or is it a ploy to make Rio and the WSOP look bad? If he hates it so much, why did he play in the first place? It just seems like a big marketing ploy to me.

I don't think you will find many instances in life where everyone is treated exactly the same. There are different rules for everyone in just about everything that happens in life. Whether it be the WSOP, two athletes on the same team, or two employees for the same company. Nobody treats everyone the same and if they say they do they are probably mistaken.

This stuff kind of bothers me. So he won’t wear the bracelet. Big deal.If he turned down the money, any money he won, then I might put more credence into what he has to say. Until then, his words are empty.

The main problem with Shulman is that he is a hypocrite. "Oh, I hate the WSOP, Harrah's, the staff at the WSOP, the staff at Harrah's, I think this whole thing is a farce and a joke. BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT, I better make sure I secure my seat in the big one, so if I go deep, I can go on and on about how much I hate the WSOP, Harrah's...."You get to the final table of a tournament they run, and then you shit hard on them? Yeah, you're an idiot, a hypocrite, and a waste of air--go DIAF, Shulman.

Well I for one am taking Harrah's side over a well liked poker player who's nickname is Happy.Harrah's is the only one that cares for us poker players, the way they make sure there are bathrooms and hot dogs for us to eat, with 3 cashiers so that during breaks on the tournament there aren't any long lines. They are the ones who take a portion out of every buy in for the dealers, and sure they take a small administration cut to distribute it evenly, but that's normal.Harrah's is the one who makes sure that when Phil Hellmuth needs a large driving area with no obstructions, there is one available for him.Harrah's is the one that puts out the red carpet for us players literally.'Happy' only publishes a card player magazine..big dealNext year, I am going to dedicate any money I win at the Main event to Harrahs to thank them for getting everything right about this tournament!

In fairness, Harrah's had cheeseburgers and pizza this year too. Not good cheeseburgers though. I kept going to a decent chinese place called mah jong in the main casino.I was a little surprised that they asked me if I wanted to tip the dealers after I min-cashed in 235th place but hey dealers gotta eat cheeseburgers too.

Did they make the pre-prepared sandwiches any better? When I was there they were on this hard ass kaiser type roll, and it was pretty brutal.

Did not try one. I gave up on the food stand right in the poker area after taking a couple bites of a rubbery cheeseburger. I heard someone say the grocery store style sushi they had was ok.I did appreciate the expanded massage areas though. When you have a bad back, it is so nice to have that option.
