should be the obvious feature table. I have played online with Ben Lamb a lot and think he has an excellent shot of being around at the end.from the reports, it sounds like Darvin Moon has had Jaime Gold-like cards for the last few days.I have seen from some posts that James Akenhead is not just some guy off the street. Anyone care to share his backstory?anyone else find the payout structure odd? 5th place only get 690K more than 9th? 37K only between 8th and 9th? I feel like they really are rewarding people who bust out 10-18 at the expense of people who come in 3rd-8th.

I'm definately rooting for Ivey. Akenhead made a final table last year that was televised. I think Grant Hinkle and Chris Ferguson also made the same final table.

akenhead has been playing for at least two years; he came in second to hinkle (not sure if it was grant or blair) when he raised with ak and hinkle shoved with ten four offsuit i believe then flopped trip tens and turned quads if i remember correctly; here it is;

I'll definitely be following the progress all day when I'm playing the WPT. A chance of a lifetime for Phil Iveyhttp://sports.espn.go.com/espn/poker/colum...&id=4327136
obv brag postand good article ...... my favorite part ....."I'll stare him down," Scott Bohlman said, outlining a plan of action should they sit together on Day 7. "Then, I'll figure out his range. Then I'll fold, just like everyone else does."

i like the part where durrr says he has a "sick" chance of winning. is there really no other adjective available for card players?

Prediction: Darvin Moon will aggro-donk his way out of the chiplead within two hours of the cards going in the air...
What's the back story on this guy?And no, please don't say he's rumoured to be made of cheese.

If Phil Ivey final tables this it will be unbelievably huge. I mean, Ivey is the biggest name in poker by far. For him to final table the biggest event for the first time...wow.It must be quite surreal for all the remaining players. I mean, the whole poker world is behind Ivey. Not only that, but Ivey is also the best player in the world! How can you beat the best player in the world, with a big stack, and the whole poker community behind him? This could be epic.

I agree but I will play devil's advocate. Joe Sebok mentioned that Ivey might not be a great ambassador for the game because he is reluctant to be in the spotlight. It's a fair point. I think best case scenario is to get Ivey and Esfandiari at the final table. Two big names would be incredible and Antonio would relish the spotlight/be a great and accessible poker ambassador.

I agree. No doubt the poker world would much rather have Ivey as champ, I'm sure Antonio would havemuch better appeal to media & the casual fan. Who would you rather have on Letterman representingpoker? I am no way implying I'd rather see Antonio over Ivey. But if looking at it from a businessperspective, Antonio is the man.

Anyone can beat anyone on any given day in poker. Lest people forget, there is a larger amount of luck involved than people might think, esp when all the chips go in PF.

I don't think I can take Antonio being the world champ.I don't even know who Johnny Loden is and I definately don't care what he thinks.If I have to watch Antonio on every televised poker show turning the show into a: "What does Kido Pham think is the year Phil Laak first got a boner?" game, I am going to stop watching poker on TV.Phil would be good for different reasons, and let's face it...Peter Eastgate and Jerry Yang should have made it clear, nobody really cares who the winner is outside of the poker community.

Everyone needs to calm down a bit about Ivey. You can get excited if he actually makes it, but he's still got a ways to go.

This...And just for arguments sake Shulman would be a good ambassador as well.

I dunno if I'd agree with that exactly. Ivey is probably the biggest name in poker (Brunson and Hellmuth are the only two that are possibly bigger), so it's not like he's not in the spotlight quite a bit already. Being a Main Event champion would be huge for Ivey but I don't think it would change his life that much.
