Poker Etiquette - Did Dn Shake Brock's Hand Event 14?

Recommended Posts

I think DN is one of, if not the most ethical, "nicest" and most gentlemanly, stand-up guys in all of poker, which in my opinion is one of the best things you can say about a successful, world-famous player (or any player, for that matter). However (but not taking away from that statement), in light of DN's very reasonable/agreeable discussion of Poker Etiquette in his latest blog, I am curious as to people's thoughts on the two situations below.I watched the entirety of Bluff live broadcasts of both Events 14 and 18 where DN was at the FT, and also spent quite a bit of time looking for (but not finding) video archives to see if these questions could have been answered by re-watching the video. Not finding the broadcasts, I'm looking to see what anyone else who saw the broadcasts thought about:

1. In Event 14, where Brock Parker beat DN in a brutal, come-from-behind, insanely-intense HU match,
did DN shake Brock's hand after he lost
? HE VERY WELL MAY HAVE (and I'm sort of guessing he did even though I don't remember seeing it), I just don't recall seeing that he did, so I'm asking in sincerity. I do remember that DN seemed pretty annoyed (justifiably so obv, and DN later said he was "angry" in his Twitter post and he also stated that he wanted to quickly get over to the next event ASAP). I just don't remember whether he did in fact congratulate Brock and whether that was on the broadcast. If he did, great. But if not, IMHO it may be a slight contradiction to his latest post on etiquette.2. In Event 18, where Scott Clement made the unfortunate mistake of flipping over his hand (trip 9s) mid-hand, before John Monnette threw in his last remaining chip, where John immediately folded once seeing Scott's hand because he couldn't win, thereby saving himself an all-in and giving Scott a one-round penalty,
was DN overly-vocal in his criticism
? In my opinion, DN took it just a bit too far in repeatedly criticizing Scott's mistake and it's affect (or potential affect) on DN. He was obviously upset and mentioned it to a couple people on-mic a couple times (not sure if Scott could hear, but we watching the video certainly could). Of course, it's easy for me to say as a rail-bird watching on a video feed, but the
only
reason I do bring it up is again due to DN's latest etiquette post.It seemed like Scott made an honest mistake (which the commentators also noted) but DN was pretty vocal about it. That being said, I can imagine how frustrating it must have been for DN, as real money was on the line and how it potentially affected the payouts & how DN would have played the subsequent hand(s). But again, it seemed like an honest mistake and I would think that a little less venting (preferably off-mic) would have been more appropriate...I'm guessing DN's Etiquette rules would agree. It was obvious Scott felt really bad about it and I guess I sort of expected DN to offer some grace to Scott (which may have happened off-camera/off-mic). Again, not a huge deal, and I wouldn't have thought twice about it, let alone mentioned it in a post, but for DN's latest blog. I'm more curious whether others thought it was unusual for DN to be so critical on-mic esp in light of the latest blog.

I assume that Daniel shook Brock's hand as you appear to assume that he didn't. I did see Daniel's interview after the loss and, although he expressed frustration with the loss, he also commented on how excellent a player Brock is. From what I remember, Daniel said that he feels that neither he nor Brock has a distinctive edge over the other; the cards decided the winner.I didn't actually see what happened with regard to Clements showing his hand early during the video. But I read about it and, in my opinion, it's a mistake that should not happen. I don't understand how so many experienced players can play with such disregard for proper etiquette and rules of the game; especially in a situation where it may affect how others finish and get paid.

1. I shook Brock's hand and patted him on the back. He said, "I ran really good" and I smiled and said "No %%^$%" LOL2. Scott looked me in the eyes, apologized for his mistake, and we shook hands and I said, "No sweat man, I know you didn't do it on purpose at all. It was just kinda brutal timing." If I made comments to my friends in the stands I don't really remember. I remember explaining to them why it was so costly for me personally. None of that was meant for the cameras or anything like that, I was just explaining to them what happened.

i was watching the feed, also heard daniel commenting off camera to friends on the rail...however i thought dn was commenting on boyd's early position raise to isolate monnette when he didnt have a solid enough hand to bet out a third player... when in fact he coulda just smoothed..they chk chk chk..and bust monnette because dn would have flopped a boat or something...but bc he early pos raised dn out of the pot- it allowed monnette to win that pot...
