2009 Wsop - Event 4 - $1,000 No Limit Hold'em

I've played in Casinos with this rule in cash games and realistically I have never seen them kill a hand for this, they should warn people and if they don't put the phone away then assess a penalty.

you know Ozi is a really nice guy and does not deserve that Poto, sometimes things happen by mistake. Maybe he didn't know the rules. Which does not excuse him , But that does not matter saying he deserve what he got, it was down right cruel. Some people do deserve second chances. You are one nasty piece of work. I do understand rules are there for a reason but you don't have to be so mean about it. Getsprung might have a point , and I can't believe I may agree with him.
And people ask why I am still allowed to post.

Sadly the dealers and floor staff are trained to take this rule quite literally that if someone even takes out their phone we have to immediately kill the hand. I tried to enforce this rule only in the most obvious cases and not in significant pots. Such a terrible rule.

First..... Best of luck to all.Second..... No it doesn't suck. He either knew the rules and ignored them, or he was ignorant of them. Either way he deserved what he got.Life's a bitch. Learn the rules and you may last longer.
Poto, I have been generally apathetic towards your pointless attacks for the most part, but I feel the need to chime in here. It does suck to have it happen, and while I do think that it would be wise to not even worry about a phone when in a hand, it still sucks it happened.Just because someone broke a rule (willingly or unwillingly) doesn't mean that it doesn't suck. Ozi is a good guy and I know he wasn't doing it with ill intentions, which is what makes it a sucky situation.I know you are a cranky old man, but there still is a line that you don't need to cross.EDIT: As I said, I think that Ozi erred in taking out his phone, and it probably could easily be interpreted as breaking the rule (which is VERY grey IMO and I think a stupid rule that should have looser punishments for the 1st offense if it is blatantly clear no harm was meant) but I think you have no right to tell him he deserves it.

Jesus poto, it does still suck. No reason to snap at him just because he "broke" a rule with no malicious intentions.

Why are you still posting here? You're like a less informative more ignorant Great Dane.
Agreed.Poto, I used to enjoy posting in your threads, and you really seemed like a good guy. But seriously stop trying to suck the life out of the forum. Please just stop posting instead of trying to get banned. It is a waste of your energy.I understand that this is the internet and you are entitled to your opinion. You probably don't care what I think, but you are a genuine prick in my opinion.

To all:Ozi may be the nicest guy in the world. Hell..... he may be Jesus Christ. I don't know. I don't care. But there are rules in life. And guess what...... they wouldn't be rules if they didn't have consequences for breaking them.Gee...... there is a "gray area" for this rule. One simple solution: TURN OFF YOUR CELL PHONE. End of problem. The floor staff has to deal with thousands of people. Each and every one of which has a cell phone. What the hell do you expect them to do? Go to the FCP forum and ask if Ozi is a "good guy?"As my Drill Sergeant used to say:"Reach down with your right hand and grab your left ear.Reach down with your left hand and grab your right ear.Pull until you hear a sucking, popping noise. That will be your head coming out of your ass."

Never seen this a floorman rule the hand dead on the first offense. Always a warning first. My cell phone can be silenced from the side buttons (while its still in my pocket so I generally just do that... since I dont even have to take it out)Obviously there's no reason why ozium shouldnt have had it silenced or at least should not have just left it in his pocket for the duration of the hand... but its still ludicrous to me that they'd muck the hand... also... this would never happen for any "tv star" in the tournament. Poto is a douchebag everyone... just leave him alone I guess.

Please, no more discussion about Poto's comments. They were insensitive and let's move on.

Can you imagine how Hellmuth would have acted if this was called on him.

Disagree.. although it probably is an unfair ruling ( the guy probably wasnt cheating) I had this exact same thing happen to me today.. my phone started vibrating and I made sure my hand was junk before I touched my phone.. Just in case there was a floor man that would actually rule my hand dead.

Here's the thing....I personally like Ozium a lot, and I know that he made an honest mistake. I wasn't there, but I'm sure it was just a normal reaction to his phone going off. Tournaments are funny. You take a guy like Jamie Gold who flashed his cards several times at the TV table and was not penalized, and what he was doing was very intentional. He also would discuss his hand, and would often be telling the truth about what he had, which is against the rules. Again, he was not penalized.Several years ago Layne Flack had an incredibly high temperature and he was forced to play the main event on the day he was assigned, as opposed to starting on another day when he was feeling better.Aside from the Layne incident, I have never seen a ruling that went against a well known pro. People have a tendency to look the other way, or make exceptions when "pros" are involved. If the same rule applied to everyone I wouldn't care. But showing any sort of favortism in poker is -ev.

huh? it def is natural instinct to turn your ringer off right away when its not supposed to be on....not saying that everyone does it and most people dont know to not do in this situation...just sayin its natural instict!!!!

this situation with the phone definitely sucks and I feel very badly for Ozibut why doesn't everyone playing just leave their phones at home for the day (or remove the battery)..... there are many situations in life where a phone is not permitted; the bar exam for attorneys comes to mind. Many people have been kicked out of the exam for having a phone ring (and the stakes there are much more significant). The lesson is to know the rules and try to adhere to them. Best of luck in the rest of the WSOP Ozi. Hopefully you win significant monies to make up for this.
