2+2: gus hansen owes 4 million...then skips town.

Recommended Posts

I don't know the customs in that game, but how could he owe the other players? Doyle Brunson or whoever else just loans him a million bucks to play? Seems like even if he was stuck it would be more likely for him to have a marker from the casino....
the way they play the game while on the road is one person bankrolls the game. he'll get racks and racks of $1 chips and 'sell' them to the other players. they'll settle up whenever as either owing the banker or expecting a payment from the banker.

Re: Gus Hansen skips town, owes 4 million... [Re: Hold'me] #2428206 - 05/18/05 11:37 PM Edit Reply Quote Quote:--------------------------------------------------------------------------------How about revealing your source? This is the first I've heard of these accusations. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------This was at Commerce last night, I was talking to a guy who identified himself as a "touring professional" and who "entered all the big 10k tournaments", his words not mine, I did not recognize him but he seemed to know a lot about different poker pros (as if that means anything at all). Post Extras: This is the "so-called" credible source? This whole thread is a bunch of BS. We need to stop this asap.

Why would Gus be playing on Poker Stars when he has Poker Champs which he endorses??
because he can.Why does Phil Hellmuth play on stars too?Or why does Keller?

For all those people that say Gus gets worked in the 100/200 game on Pokerstars.. isn't watching to closely, From what i've seen, after watching hours and hours while playing my own games, I see him crushing the game. I think it was a sunday he played for like atleast 10 hours straight, and he sat down with like 5k.. and was to 50k+ on a couple of tables. So not sure when you are watching him but i'm pretty sure he is a winner in that game.

Arieh just dispelled this story as a lie. I was exchanging messages with him on Bodog where he is playing right now at his table. He said the Gus thing is a lie. Just thought I would let you all know.
That means nothing.Even if it were true I highly doubt arieh would say it was.

I know when I was at the Bellagio back in October I was at the next table and he was down a matter of 800,000 in just 2-3 hours of play. I do see how he can be down the 4mil if all he did is play the big game it doesn't take long in that game.

It appears a lot of gossip flies through these forums, and tonight i happen to be reading this and was bored so figured i'd post. Well, I've heard from a couple of sources now that Gus was broke or close to broke in the past couple of months. So if he's hurting and owes people money well i'm not surprised. The origin of the information i received was a business associate close to many of the big game players and big stakes pros in vegas. Soo....who am I? and why should you even take what i have to say serious. Well, all i can say is i'm a respected tournament pro and very good friends with plenty of the top younger players who play both on the circuit and in the higher limit cash games. As far as the question "how can someone get in debt $4MM?" This is very possible. At the limits I play (or slightly above), i know people that you've probably never heard of that are passing back and forth $50k without even a handshake (cuz it's moved online often). I've loaned guys that I thought were credit worthy (cuz they are always playing in sizable games and run very closely within the same circles as i do, and have always been very straight forward with me) as much as $10k, only to find out from other players in our circle that they are broke and i should be careful about my loans to that individual. So given that the biggest game I regularly play is 100/200 limit, it's very possible for me to imagine someone who is regularly playing $4k/$8k and has endorsement deals getting into that kind of debt.As far as dismising it cuz Arieh said so. That's funny. Arieh isn't really known for being super close to Gus, he's known to be real good buds with E. Lindgren. So it's ridiculous to assume it's not true only because Arieh scoffs at it. If Arieh validated Lindgren was having huge personal problems and tilting every time he's played in the last 2 months (which Arieh would never do), i'd be chasing Lindgren and first on the list to get into his games.Anyway, enjoy.-yo yo ma ma

the words of a 100-200 player or 3-6 player aren't really that much different. you ethier know or you don't. your assumption doesn't really help the story at all.
but he's an anonymous respected tournament pro! surely that gives him some credibility?

"That's what the internet is for... slandering people anonymously."1. Who the hell cares how much debt Gus is in? Is it your business? Did it affect you at the table last night? Did you wake up today worrying about it?2. Discussing it like we have an f'n clue is absurd. 3. Fake accounts are ridiculous.. "I know people you haven't even heard of..." I know plenty of people you've never heard of, I'll bet you don't know ANYONE I know. It doesn't make me an expert of poker finances!

Wow, that's pretty bad if your friends don't know your real name.

In addition to being a poker player I am also a backgammon player. I know a backgammon player who went to vegas and played blackjack, and his dealer knows a poker dealer, and this poker dealer knows a dealer who deals the "big game" and this dealer claims that I am making all this up.
