Sng's - Is Pokertracker Worth It?

Recommended Posts

Ive been playing poker for nigh on 2 years, and online for 1, serious for the past 6 months or so. Started off cash games, but stopped ages ago as i couldnt handle the swings on the micro stakes, and want to proper start at .1/.25 but with pokertracker - when i can afford that lol! So i changed to Sit n goes, and had moderate success at $3/$6 Turbos on PokerStars. Not making much profit, but profit nevertheless, with proper BR and solid poker, with the odd 3betbluff lolThe last month or so, i took a shot at $13 and $25 as i could afford it, and it really took off. People actually fold hands lol, instead of calling all the way with A high! Im making like $200 a week doing this! - time to quit the part time job methinks!! I know variance kicks in- it has..been weeks when ive had £0 at the start of my "poker career", but god, it feels good to be making money! My question is, should i purchase pokertracker now, and use it for Sit n goes? or just wait untill i am playing cash games. (can u use it for SnG's?)Soon i will be moving up to $25 and $39 , so should i use an online tool to help me. Are the players that much better? Ive played in 1 $25 and won that, but that could have been luck, i dunnoAlso, do any of you play these turbo 6 max? I'd love to hear how fellow FCPers are doing! Thanks in advance, - my names Bernabus on stars in case u want to check me out!!

( is pokertacker > Holdem manager?)Thanks for your response though, Andrew.

I have both tools and with HEMs new release coming out some time very shortly and a better price, IMO, I would go with HEM. The new release on HEM is going to fix a lot of things SNG and MTT related the product had. So IMO go with HEM.Jeff

What do you mean wait until you pay cash games? If you're a good tournament player and can make a solid income that you're happy with and enjoy doing it, why would you necessarily want to switch?

Simply because i want to be good at all aspects of poker - and that means mastering all types of games that are available in my eyes. I feel that i can enjoy Sng's much more because i can only lose x amount of money, no matter how many chips i have, but i want to get rid of that feeling when i am at a cash gameDo u play cash games/Sng's, or both Solar?

Cash. I have played quite a few sng's in the past, somewhere around 500 games, and with a decent roi. I just don't enjoy them as much as cash games, so have pretty much given them up for good. Still play some mtt's if for some reason I want to put myself on tilt, but 95% cash games.Play whatever you want to play most. Don't feel like you have to learn other games/formats just because they're there.

I agree with Solar on the Cash Game/MTT thing. If you don't have success playing in cash games then don't. It's a world of diff between the two and you have to have a certain mind frame to play cash games. Those "big swings" you are talking about don't have to happen if you learn to control your game. If I you truly want to start getting good at cash games I would stay in the micros (even though your BR might be larger) until you start posting a profit regularly. Then move up. It took me a while to understand the concept of the cash game...

Ok, thanks for your input. Ive never really been good at cash games in comparison to Sng's, and never new why.I'll probably just play .05/.1 NL 6max with HEM then until i make a steady profitI dont know what it is about the Turbo 6 max's. I just love em.!! Hopefully soon i will feel that way about cash games. I just dont want to have this big flaw in my game - that i cant play cash games. Thanks for your help mate :club:

Its not that i feel i HAVE to, just that i WANT to. I figure that if i practise enough, and sit down with the same mindframe as i do for Sng's, then i can win. Also, there is a cash game down at my local casino, and i would love to sit down with them. i play with the guys at a tourney there, but ive never felt like sittingdown at the cash game with them.Just out of interest, how long have u been playing cash games for, and what limits do u play? Thanks

When I started playing about 1.5 years ago I played mainly cash. Switched to mainly sng's for about a month or two and gave them up about September last year. I now play mostly .25/.5 with some .1/.25 also.

I respect your desire to become a well-rounded player but there is also nothing wrong with admitting that some games just aren't for you. I'm the opposite of Solar - I much prefer tourney NLHE to cash and it took me a while to swallow my pride and admit that I'm just not that good at cash NLHE. I'm one of those people that gets pushed around at cash tables because I hate being forced to make decisions for large amounts of money. The tourney structure evens the playing field. People with aggressive attitudes and money to burn can't push me around in tourneys the way they do at cash tables.
