2. Flat income tax with no deductions whatsoever except individuals and dependents. This means corporations will pay a flat income tax period. If the rate is decent, say 15% then that should be enough to fund anything the government needs.
You want to tax corporations 15% of their gross income?

A well planned campaign of genocide targeted towards certain ethnicities.

Actually, it's already being done on a pretty large scale, and done so well they think it's a benefit!! They think they are loved, cared for, nurtured, understood, while the whole time they are used. So, in that way, not only is it clever in that the joke is it's already happening and some are to stupid to see it, it's also very intuitive and smart.

I've got several reasons why I wouldn't legalize pot but the first one is that I don't want them behind the wheel of a car.
I guess I just don't think the number of pot smokers would change much with legalization. it's easy to get and essentially ignored by the cops in most places. here in lawrence, you simply get a ticket if you're caught with it. such a joke. all of the practical stuff aside, you need to be talking about making booze illegal if you're concerned about driving under the influence.

wow. What have midgets ever done to get you this angry?
Looked creepy and scary. You notice in the movies they are always evil, right? Don't you remember in Elf, that little guy was an ******* to poor Will Ferrell. You're an angry elf.

Currently we put them in jail, since marijuana is illegal. This is one of the silliest wastes of money ever. It seems rather peculiar to me that you are worried about legalization because you think more people will end up in jail.
I DO think more people will end up in jail. Alcohol is legal and they end up in jail, right? We are a society of folks who for the most part don't know when to say when. Whether it's drinking or smoking or gambling or laying out in the sun or.......heck, just pick any activity!I've desided that my version of a mid-life crisis must be getting pissed at the idiots. LOL I'm pissed that I just earned an 11.8k bonus and GAVE 4k of it to help fund women who don't know how to keep their legs closed and have no incentive to do so, dipshits who drive drunk and think they need a nice comfy bed and 3 squares, dumbasses who thought they needed a 200k house on a 30k salary, contributions to SS of which I'm sure will be abolished by the time I need it, blah, blah, blah. And I gave AIG an ass ripping too. I've had auto insurance with them for the past several years. My renewal came up March 9 and my rates DOUBLED! No tickets, no accidents, no claims at all on my part......but apparently they had several top employees who needed a one million dollar + bonus because they tanked the damn company and squandered their bailout funds. Dammit, I had to increase productivity in my department by 20%, reduce shrink by 25%, improve safety by 25%...I had no idea others considered it normal to get a million dollar bonus to FAIL to improve a damn thing! Yeah, I think I need an increase on my dosage.....GAH!!!!

Last year there were over 800,000 arrests for marijuana (source). So in order for legalization to increase arrests, the number of marijuana-related DUI arrests would have to increase by almost one million per year.

I agree with most of what SB posted on this subject. There are a couple things I'd add however.1. Term limits on U.S. Senators & Congressmen.
Yes. Now.
2. Flat income tax with no deductions whatsoever except individuals and dependents. This means corporations will pay a flat income tax period. If the rate is decent, say 15% then that should be enough to fund anything the government needs.
Flat tax is one of those things that sounds good in theory, but the problem is you have to define "income". Do you get to subtract mileage? Trips for out of town meetings to win new clients? That is how we got to where we are now -- some deductions are clearly deductions, some are clearly not, and there is a lot of gray in between that can be manipulated for political purposes.
3. To help with whatever pollutants or emissions I'd say that any city with more than 100,000 people should not allow private cars within the city limits.
This is socialist central planner crazy talk. Really. If people feel pollution is too bad, they will stop buying cars that pollute so much. In the meantime, they choose convenience over brown air, and I think they should be allowed that choice. There's always North Dakota for people who don't like it.
4. Have every executive order have to be approved within one year by the congress or it would automatically expire. Give them 2 years to take care of the ones already in effect. I know this will be a bone of contention also. But it's my contention that we've given the executive branch way too much power in the last few administrations and it needs some checks and balances.
This is an improvement over the current system, but I prefer the constitution -- Congress makes the laws, president rejects them. We don't need a benevolent king.

12 year term limits would be great.Flat tax will never ever ever happen. Our whole system is based on being able to write things off. If you change that structure their will be a ripple through the economy like none we have ever seen.

I think it's funny that in a thread called "If I Ran The WORLD" people post only about America. As if America = the world.
Apologies for the insensitive thread name, Fleur (see, I AM a real liberal -- I felt guilty and apologized). I'm actually quite the internationalist, relatively speaking -- all my magazines come from overseas and I've been dicking around with an idea for public television about a show to educate Americans regarding third-world issues.

Dude, you have totally got to rent _In Bruges_, with Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleason. Everybody should. It features the angriest, most racist, most whore-mongering, most stoned, and of course funniest elf/midget/little person in all moviedom. Phenomenal movie.
Legalize all drugs. The "War on Drugs" is a joke.I've always wanted to sit down at a bar and order a "Double Heroin Daiquiri." And get served.
Years ago, the Zippy the Pinhead strip was predicting 'Zac and Jack, Jack Daniels and Prozac. I could totally see Viagra cocktails. [in truth, we should probably all be having statin cocktails, but what fun is that?]My bar menu would have absinthe 'n' LSD, and beer 'n' shrooms. [i should start a thread in OT -- absinthe is once again available with wormwood, and I LOVE it! Love, love, love it.]

I'll add it to Netflix.

So everyone is really a new democrat, and we're just arguing about the details?
fypclinton's approval rating on the day he was motherfucking IMPEACHED was 73%. without character issues, his approval rating would've been high 80s-90s. he was basically right on just about everything that matters.

Massachusetts in the hizzy!
I would abolish the DH.
Tooooooootally, and I would raise the mound back up to where it was in 1967. We had our homerun era - it was stupid and everybody took steroids - now let's bring it back to the good old days.

This is a silly statement, since he stood for nothing. He can't be right if he had no position.Having said that, I agree that he did a lot of good things, but it wasn't because he believed in the right things, it's because that's where the political winds were blowing that day. He was The Weather Vane president. And Obama is moving in the opposite direction that Clinton took us, so I find it very difficult to find anyone could support both of them.

  • 7 months later...
That would be one damn large deficit, and the arc of that history bends toward US bankruptcy.Anyway ... all of it, including the "Reagan recession," Iran-Contra, and the Cold War?
In the wake of the Obama administration, this old post made me laugh.
