March Madness 2009

Recommended Posts

Since St Mary's didn't get in, I'm boycotting the tournament this year. Not going to watch one game.Someone please tell me how they don't get in:18-1, #18 in the country when their PG and best player gets hurt in a game they're winning @4-seed Gonzaga. They go 6-3 w/o him including a win against tournament team Utah State, and a 2-pt loss to 4-seed Gonzaga. They lost to Gonzaga in the conf final with their best player in his 2nd game back coming off the bench. So I guess they don't want arguably the most exciting player in the country playing in the tournament either. I get it. Makes sense.
Not sure but a SOS of about 159, 2-3 vs top 50 rpi (not that bad) and in a near average conference doesn't help. GL boycotting. You'll be missing out on some good bball

All 3 of those losses are Gonzaga, and like I said, they were beating them when he got hurt and lost by 2 w/o him. Then forced himself back early for the conf tourn and came off the bench before going down to the Zags again in the Final. There really isn't much more this team could have done, it's a shame, a damn shame.

Yeah it sucks and I think they are the 67th team but why not watch because they got "screwed"? Enjoy the good games and watch Mary's in the NIT.

bc I'm in love Paddy Mills that's why. There's only a handful of players worth watching in college and he's one of them, but they'd rather put another run of the mill Big Ten team in there that nobody cares about. The NIT? What's that?

I don't know anything about college basketball, but if y'all could give me a couple of good upset choices for my bracket that'd be great, I'll just go with em

I think SD St was the biggest snub but Mary's is an okay one too. They would have had a better chance if Miss St, etc didn't win, obv. Wisconsin was better than Penn State. Wisconsin had a better RPI and A LOT better SOS and beat PSU twice. PSU's non conference schedule (yuck)William and Mary, NJIT, Hartford, New Hampshire, Penn, RI, Towson, GT, Temple, Army, Mount St Marys, Lafayette, Sacred Heart. I'd say Temple is the best out of those and they lost to them.

PSU will never make it at 22-11 with that horrible out of conference schedule. The NIT? What's that?
I see. I can't tell if you're joking about the NIT part, but I'll tell you anyway. It's the National Invitational Tournament. 32 teams that have an above .500 record that didn't make the NCAA tourney are invited to the NIT. You are automatically in if you won your conference in the regular season and aren't in the big dance. There's also the CBI which was new last year and has 16 players. Check out their websites. St Mary's plays Washington State on the 17th on espn2Edit: I wanted SD St in over Arizona 19-13. AZ was 2-9 on the road but I can see why they let them in.And I know I said this already but Illinois deserved a 7 or 8 and now they'll have a battle with Western Kentucky. Butler should have had a 6 or 7 and I'd give Memphis a #1 seed.

psu didnt deserve to get in over the teams that got in cept zona i dont think they deserved it. we might be better teams then some but our sos and rpi r pathetic and we choked that simple. i think st marys or sdsu deserved to get in which is y im sour not that we didnt get in just that i feel zona got in on politics.

Yeah I still don't get why SD St didnt make it with an ESPN RPI of 35 and SOS of 35. St Mary's was good and I know about the Mills injury but their overall SOS sucked and the teams in their conference besides Gonzaga were horse shit.

If they don't go deep in the NIT, the NCAA committee got it right. I don't think they did.

Biggest Snub:Without a doubt I thought it was SDSt. UNLV was projected to get in in front of the Aztechs until they beat the Rebels for a 3rd time. Then they went on to beat a very tough BYU team. Then lost to the Utes, who end up with a 5 seed. SDSt will be in the Final Four of the NIT and I think they'll win it. Yes they did lose to SMC and Arizona, but I honestly think they are currently better than either of those teams at the moment. Concerning SMC:I realized that Mr. Mills did get hurt and is now back, but look how he played in the WCC tourney. Same with Marquette. If Dominic James doesn't get hurt, Marquette is way better than a 6 then. Injuries happen and they affect players/teams. With that said, SMC was my first team out.Best Values:1) Villanova- This is a team I really like and if they meet up with Duke, it'll be a matchup they would likely dominate.2) Florida St.- They didn't bring their A game v. Duke but this is definitely a team that can hang with anyone in the nation.t3) Western Kentucky- Coming off a trip to the Sweet 16 last season, this is a team that could very well go back there. Illinois ain't totally healthy so this is one of the 5/12 matchups to take a hard look at.t3) Arizona- It pains me to say this but this team is a Sweet 16 capable team. I believe they could very well be playing Cleveland St. in the 2nd round.Overrated:(4) Xavier- They finished the season very weak and in my eyes, were a 6 seed.Teams that could make a run:Boston College- Is a team that can get physical and when playing their very best, can hang with just about anyone.VCU- UCLA has to travel all the way to Philly. This could be a perfect spot for VCU.Cleveland St.- This team did beat Butler and hung with them in the other two games and did beat Syracuse, even if it was a 3/4 court heave.Ohio St.- They are essentially playing 2 home games if they can win. If they can shoot 50%, this will be a team to keep an eye on.Teams to stay away from:Syracuse- After the run they made in New York, it could be 2006 all over again.UCLA- Has to travel all the way to Philly.Marquette- This team has lost their identity since loosing their starting PG.

Wake is a team that could very well make the final four. It's just they played inconsistent v. the bottom half of the ACC, then would play the top half very close. Like I said, I wouldn't be shocked if Wake loses in the 1st round, as I think Cleveland St. is very good.

oh man, i hate Kansas' draw. West Virginia in the second round, color me scared.
I have them down as losing to WVU. No offense, but that was a horrible draw for a team that got a 3 seed.Speaking of horrible draws, how is Michigan facing the only 7 seed that is nationally ranked in the top 25. Clemson is ranked 17th... and are a 7 seed?

Much like Suited doesn't like KU's 2nd round matchup against WVU, I don't like MU's 2nd rounder against Marquette. Weren't they ranked #1 at some point this year? I think it was before they really got into their schedule but you can color me scared as well. I don't think anyone wants any part of the Big East teams
Marq has never been #1 this year, they got up as high as 6th I think. They lost one of their 2 best players to injury and have been playing barely 500 ball since then. Still a scary team with two good senior guards, but they lost a lot of outside firepower and depth.

SDSU should be furious. They got hosed. Minnesota and Wisconsin? One of those teams should be gone.Everything else looked ok.
Arizona has no business being in, and one of those two Big-10 teams should have gotten the boot to the NIT too.

Memphis at 30-1 is a spectacular value. Some computers have them ranked #1 overall.Even at 8-1 I think they are still a decent bet.Someone should start an FCP bracket challenge. But not me because I'm too lazy.

Cal is my dark horse for March Madness. :club: They lead the nation in 3pt FG% and are more talented than people give them credit for.
