Mercury69 3
Nice pick by LBJ...had my eye on Ince meself...As it is, let me ask this: Does anyone else have a front two that have combined for 400+ BPL goals?
Jam-Fly 8
Sigh, Pires was picked. Can't believe he wasn't picked earlier, it was the same in the other draft I am part of, I managed to get him as the 43rd pick! I personally think he is a worthy top ten pick, is it just me or does anyone else agree?
Jam-Fly 8
they aren't the same player as pallister is miles slower then Rio. Pallister is one of the few CBs that played in the early Prem era that I don't think would be able to fully make the transition to the present day gameYeah, speed in a defender is an attribute wrongly overlooked by many people. It is so, so important and Rio has bundles of it. Yeah, Pallister isn't the fastest, but Rio more than makes up for that imo. And tbh, lack of speed is just about Pallister's only weakness imo. He is an expert at marking, tackling, heading and passing.

I personally think he is a worthy top ten pick, is it just me or does anyone else agree?i was very surprised he didnt go much earlier but my strategy was to take care of the spine then pad out my flanks. pires was a hero in his time at arsenal and was voted the 6th greatest arsenal player of all time behind henry, adams, wright, bergkamp and an other i cant recall. he was amazing at times and i felt he never really got the respect he deserved from the critics though i supposed you dont get much higher praise and the football writers award. Mercury69 3
Getting down to crunchie time, I see...Boy, was I ever disappointed to see Essien go right before I was due to select. Nonetheless, I solidified my defense and midfield, as planned...Current squad:G - SeamanD - Irwin (LB), Campbell (RB), Southgate (CB)M - Beckham (RM/W), McAllister (CM)F - Shearer (S), Owen (S)I will reveal my comprehensive selction plan once the draft is over. It can be summed up in two or three words. :-)

KDawgCometh 2
I'll hopefully get back to this tonight, but tommorrow night is more likely. I haven't been around much and have a lot of school work and job work to do to where I haven't even thought of who to pickedit: I made my pick now, not sure of who to notify for the next pick

Mercury69 3
Just a thought, but I was curious to know if you guys might be interested in compiling a career stats table for your own teams for reference. I'm curious about things like Total Appearances in Career, Avg Goals per Match, etc...I'll do a sample for my squad once I'm done. It might assist an attempt to rate the teams. For example, while I've already crowed about Shearer and Owen being the only front two with 400+ BPL goals, when you work out Average Goals per Match, it might make for some valid comparisions. Averages per Match might work...Also, fun stuff, like Int'l caps per team or total yellow cards, etc...might be fun. It's all dependant on everyone's interest level and available time, but I think I'll do a reasonable comprehensive one for my squad.Cheers! I'm def up for that.At the end of the draft, it is mandatory to make a 12th post in the picks thread. In the post, the absolute musts are (1) value of players pick by pick (2) tactics of your team. It would be cool to include stats etc tooAlso, although stats are very valid when judging a team, it is also important to note that a team works together. It is not just the best 11 players you choose, it is 11 players that will play best in a team. Therefore, tactics and players working together are just valid as stats. Some good and some not so good.I can see how doing this for fun might be interesting, for comparison, and I can tell you're happy with your 400 goal stat! But I could easily counter that they might have scored more goals, but how many Premiership medals did they win? (one - between them) I probably have the most winner's medals in my team (that's a guess, I honestly haven't checked back to the other thread). Which stat is best? I don't know... and does it matter? There's so many variables I can't even begin to answer. Also, there's another factor I've been thinking about in general which is much harder to quantify. Basically, I believe that the Premiership is the best (in terms of player quality) right now, than it's ever been. I dont think that's even up for debate to be honest, because you only have to look at how succesful the English teams are in Europe at the moment. We've progressed, invested and developed so much since 1992.On that basis, a player like Torres (who hasn't yet won much) or many other members of the top sides, I'd much prefer to have in my side than say, Robbie Fowler... even though Fowler will rate much much higher on any Premiership stat chart. The same comparison can be applied to most positions and while there are very clearly the obvious 'legends' who were top class in their day and would still be the best now, in the best teams, I think the competition is harder for places now throughout the whole league... so it stands to reason that there perhaps should be more current players (or at least, from the last 3-5 seasons) in our teams. On that note I should make my next pick so I'll get onto it.

On that note I should make my next pick so I'll get onto it.Yeah, all very valid points. And I agree, I believe the football played in the Prem at the minute is the highest quality of football played in the history of the Premiership. So, I suppose this should give higher preference to current players. But there's also the point that, with past players, we've seen all they can do, with current players, we're not really sure. I mean Torres is great right now, and I'm sure he will be awesome in years to come, but someone like Andy Cole was great for his whole career. So how do you compare things like that?Obviously, these all are completely hypothetical sides, so it's impossible to give a completely accurate judgement on which team is better. I think the main thing to do is, for all of us to try to best argue our case for why our team is the best. Obviously some teams will have more medals, some teams will have more overall goals, some teams will have better tactics, some teams will have better leaders etc. so it really is up to each individual manager to prove his point. And if this is done thru stats, tactics, explanations, comparisons, then so be it, all of these are complete relevant and valid arguments.
KDawgCometh 2
are we doing subs at all? we don't neccessarily need back up keepers, but having a 5 or 7 deep bench would be fun
Jam-Fly 8
oh yeah, subs. who wants to do it? I don't really mind either way. If we do have 5 or 7 subs, I think back up keepers should be more-or-less mandatory coz 99% of teams do have back-up keepers in their squad
Mercury69 3
I also think a back-up goaltender is mandatory. I think the overall approach here is to build a complete team for competition purposes and you don't want to get stuck for a 'tender if you main guy suffers a cyber-injury :-)While there is no question that some teams will have more goals scored or more league medals, etc, I think all of that could factor in, somehow, to an overall "grade" for a given team against which, say, odds of winning against another team could be cooked up or an array of stats that could be fed into a match simulator to generate a season's worth of results...I'm probably just dreaming, but a man can dream, can he not?!?!:-)
