Heading to New Orleans in march. My wife and I are staying in the French Quarter for two nights. We both have never been to New Orleans before. Are there any restaurants that are a must stop? Also we will be about 4 blocks from a Harrah's Casino. I plan on playing a few small tournaments and maybe some 1-2 ring games. Any advice/reviews of their poker room. Lastly forgot to mention that two of are friends are going with us. So if there are any fun group events in New Orleans those would be helpful also. After this we are going on a cruise. I have read that the casino on most cruise ships only has pot limit games. I will play these if I dont have another option. Anyone that has cruised with carnival please clear this up for me if I am wrong. If I posted this in the wrong forum I apologize.

Why are none of you in New Orleanes today? that's the bigger question

Try the Restaurant "Mothers" over in the business district across Canal from the French Quarter. You might have to wait in line for a bit, but the shrimp and softshell crab po'boys are incredible (and HUGE). The etoufee is real nice too. Otherwise, eat anywhere like Freddec suggested. have funP

They dont have many tournaments. Your best bet is playing 1/2 or 2/4. The people playing are cool but the dealers are d-bags for the most part. Also be prepared to pay a six dollar tip every dealer change (I dont know if this is a standard rate most places). When I went their was a guy flipping quarters for 1k a piece. He ended up winning around 16K and then came to our 2/4 and set to my right :club:. He played extremely loose. It made for a very interesting game. On another note its fine to walk to the casino during the day but if you are going at night. Either have a friend go with you our a taxi or trolley. And definilty eat at Mother's(thanx for the suggestion Merlopj) and get their Fergi special.

I spent a 3 day weekend down there 3 weeks ago. Couldn't disagree more with most comments about the safety of the city or the niceness of the dealers at Harrahs. New Orleans is now a clean, beautiful city that's really trying hard. Sure, like in any big city I'm sure you can find trouble. But unless you're just an oblivious drunk I can't see much danger. Mother's is wonderful. Also for happy hour there is a bar called Luke across from the intercontinental Hotel that has oysters on the half shell for $3.00/ dz & half price drinks. Two dozen oysters & 2 saffire martinis for $15 is impossible to beat anywhere. Stay away from Burbon St. Redneck central. Harrahs is a full Vegas style casino. All table games with full Vegas odds. Poker room is nice, dealers were nice, rake is $6 every dealer change. Players were friendly & very average. For a steak, Emeril's restaurant Delmonico is top drawer. I live on the east coast so Vegas is a little hard to get to. New Orleans is inexpensive, uncrowded & well worth the visit.

by far my favorite city i have yet visited. the trick is to get into a drunken stupor and wander around the whole time aimlessly. interesting things of the most unexpected kinds will just find you somehow.
