I'm hoping that one of the positive things that comes out of this season is that the producers will notice that great play garners the show more attention than great personalities. This is premature, but I'm guessing we've seen the best of this season already. Now we're going to see the gimmicky 72o bets, theatrics, etc. that casual fans like. I like to think of HSP as more advanced than that.
yeah as far as poker play and poker thinking the start to this season has been amazing. Yeah it is fun to see antonio and phil go at each other but there could be a good chance that the great play of poker could be done for the season. At least dario will be making an appearance.

I've watched the first four episodes thanks to Piratebay, so I haven't read anything posted in this thread.Peter Eastgate is a super nit and Durrrr is an incredible player. (he looks like a mix between peter pan and michael jackson.)

I think its been posted here, but I believe what we've seen so far has been day 3 of 3. They wanted to start the TV episodes off with all the good stuff. Now we're going to see days 1 and 2 and it will be less exciting I'm sure. But I love Phil and Antonio so its all good by me :)Mark

Dwan is just a sick maniac. At 50/50, he wants to flip a coin for $900K!! I realize he has no regard for money, but just why? Ha! Anyway, he handled it and himself perfectly. Great TV.Gabe made a great point, it will be interesting to see how his play changes as he gets older.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing DN come back. This will be from an earlier day and maybe the cards will finally go his way. Also, looking forward to watching PA
Does anyone else find watching PA to not be nearly as fulfilling as watching Dwan destroy some mofos? You can see the art, reading ability, and expertise all rolled into one in pretty much every play from Dwan..and I know PA is good and a winner and all, but he seems like suuuch a station luckbox at times. 2 hands in particular stand out: 1. The teaser already posted from episode 7 of season 5 HSP, where PA has to put Phil Laak on exactly an airballed AJ to call, and does anyway....this is terrible imo; while Laak is probably bluffing 40-50% there based on his betting and body movements, he shows up with a better hand than 44 like always. 2. PA calling down Ivey's J's full in one of those million dollar cash game episodes; youtube it. PA calls him down with top pair/10 kicker. Guh.

http://www.predictem.com/tournaments/2009-...-millions-2.php"A crazy Omaha hand occurred when Antonius raised $3,500 preflop on the button only to have Robl reraise to $12,000 from the big blind, which Antonius called. Robl bet out $16,000 on the Ad 7s 4d flop and Antonius raised the size of the pot ($72,000). Robl then moved all-in for $103,000 and Antonius called; however, they both agreed to run it out four times! Robl showed As Qs Qd Jc while Antonius held the 9h 8d 6d 5d. Unbelievably, Robl managed to win all four runs when they came Kh 2h, Jd Ac, 10h Ks, and 3s10s and scooped the entire pot. This hand more than doubled Robl up while Antonius dropped to $1.8 million."Watched it on TV last night (DVR). One of the sickest beats I've ever seen.

I completely disagree. Antonius turns others into calling stations, not the other way around. He must have had a sick read on Laak to make that call, whether it was the speed of the bet, the way Laak put the chips into the pot, or the way Laak was shuffling his chips I don't know. You have the action wrong in the second one, Antonius had trip Aces with a 10 kicker, not top pair with a 10 kicker. Ivey isn't the easiest to make big lay downs against, plus there were several reasons why Antonius thought it was possible Ivey was bluffing in this situation. If I had to pick two people better at NLHE then Dwan, it would be Antonius and Ivey. Dwan was miles ahead of the players he faced in the first few episodes of HSP, where as I think between Dwan, Antonius, and Ivey, it is difficult to know who is better unless you tracked their full results.

That's beyond insane. To have 2 of them won on the turn only to have Robl re-suck must have been very painful.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the TV %s factored in that PE folded AK (ie, Dwan had 14 outs in his mind, but only 13 outs in reality). If Dwan really has 14 outs, I think he is a slight favourite, that is the reason for the insta "no". I could be wrong, but I think with 45 unknown cards, KQ is a tiny favourite there

With 14 outs its pretty much exactly 50/50. If someone can be bothered to run the correct numbers that'd be great. But I'm fairly certain this is as close to a bonafide 50/50 as it gets.EDIT: And he only had 12 outs in reality.

i think PA had trips aces that hand not top pair, and he already explained that hand as saying the prop bets swayed his play, admittedly too much

I think Dwan has to say no when Barry asks if he wants to take some of the money back. Part of Dwan's style depends on people being afraid of losing their entire stack. If they know he's willing to make a deal and take some money back, then it's not as scary to play a pot with him. This way they know that when they play with him, they're playing for everything.

The Why? Is in the hand history.. He didn't call an all in Preflop with his KQs... they had been playing pretty much standard good aggressive poker with legitimate hands with raises and reraises until Barry comes over the top with his All In.At this point - the pot was up to $728,100 and Dwan instacalls his remaining $191,500 to win a total pot of 919,600 which is pot odds of (in my minds rough estimation) around 7/2 (or 3.5/1).. Regardless of the (to me) obscene amounts of money being pushed around here, if you can't call a 2/1 shot to make 3 1/2 times your money back, you shouldn't be playing poker... And if the money scares you, you are playing out of your limits. Which.. one hopes these guys are not.To put it another way (and I'm really sorry if I'm teaching anyone how to suck eggs here... but I guess there will be some readers who haven't considered this, seeing as it hasn't already been said..) If anyone wants to play coinflips all day with me, and offer me a deal where when you win I give you a dollar, but when I win, you give me 3 dollars and 50 cents, I'll gladly play you all day.... or at least a couple of hours, until you are broke!I once read a Doyle quote somewhere, where he said he would coinflip his ENTIRE net worth if someone offered him 3/1 odds in his favour. He backed it up by saying if you can't make a call like that for ANY amont of money, you have no business being in this business... (I'm paraphrasing obviously.. but you get the gist..). He further backed it up by stating that if he lost it, he would trust in his abilities to grind it ALL back starting from nothing, safe in the knowledge he made the right call.Interesting stuff... and clearly insane for me to consider with my roll of mere pennies, but I know it's right. And tada... this I believe is my first post ;)Chris
