From the time a started playing NL I have always bought in for 100BB. I am currently playing $10NL, and have started to buy-in for $5.What are your opinions on this? Also making my first trip to the casino next week. I am going to playing 1/2NL and thinking about buying in for $100.Thoughts?

Always buy-in full - maximise value!Live might be slightly different. I mostly play tournies live, not much cash. I think it's OK to buy-in for slightly less. Last time I played live I bought in for 70BBs but thats mainly because I wasn't rolled for the game. Just buy-in full and punish the shorties!

You don't always have to buy in for the max. Consider this, if everyone at the table you are about to join has less than the max, why buy-in for the max? Also, check out Ed Miller's articles on cardplayer, he has a few on buying in short.
i think it depends on the table, if there are a bunch of gamblers there, which at 1/2 there are usually, a smaller stack would keep the PF lower

Not at 10nl. Once you make it to $1000/$2000 NL then you can make a pretty good case for buying in short. But at 10NL you want to 1) win money, which means exploiting the donks for as much as possible and 2) develop your game, which you won't be able to do playing in a simulated tournament.

I always buy in for 100 BBs because I want to be used to playing a 100 BB or more stack. Also, $200 is plenty for $10NL.
i think he meant $200 is a small bankroll to play $1/$2 live within a $10nl, i'm buying in as big as possible, but i only play short handed and i'm a lag fish

At a casino, I would always always always buy in full. If you're going to play short stack online, I think you need to play a bigger site where you can hit and run as soon as you win any pot. At least that's how and why I think they do it.

$200 is in my online roll. I am trying to keep atleast 30-40 buy-ins in my account. My goal is to never reload. The casino question was just general. I am only going for two days and probably bringing $300 with me.

You're underrolled for the live game, which is fine if you're treating it as entertainment. (I.e., if you lose it all, your lifestyle or obligations won't suffer from the loss of income.) To play 50bb right, you're not going to see many flops. If someone bets $10 and you have $100, don't call with a suited connector, even in position. The implied odds aren't there. If you're thinking, "That sounds really boring," I agree.
