Of the Buffalo list, I only expect Connolly, Ellis and Spacek to be resigned. Connolly will have to discount himself considerably to make this happen, and I don't expect a long-term deal, most likely only two years.

DETROITHossa, MarianSamuelsson, MikaelFranzen, JohanMcCarty, DarrenKopecky, TomasDowney, AaronChelios, ChrisConklin, TyHmmm, I expect Kopecky and Sammy will be signed. At least Kopecky, I know they really like him. Dmac, Downey, Chelly, and Conks will most likely not be a Wing next year. The real question in Detroit these days has been the Hossa/Franzen issue. Who do you sign and can you get them both signed? I really like Franzen and even though I don't like Hossa that much, he looks pretty damn good on this team. I really didn't expect this to be an issue since it sounded like he only planned to come one year, give up some money and try and win a cup and then sign a big contract next season with a team desperate enough to pay a lot. Now he says he loves it hear and wants to stay and maybe finish his career here. I would love to see them both signed but I don't think that will happen, Holland even said it would be close to impossible but he will try. I suspect they will take Hossa over Franzen.

I agree with all of this. I hate seeing Franzen go if they can't sign him and Hossa, but Hossa can carry a line, which Franzen has done at times, but not with the consistency of Hossa.

J-Bo to S-J one time?Too much?
no way can they afford him. blake's 5 mill comes off at the end of the year but they've got thornton at 7.2 for one more years, Marleau at 6.3 for one more year, Boyle at 6.67 for four more years, and Nabby for 6 next year. That's 26 right there. if cheech is only pulling 3rd line duty his 3.5 for the next two years is steep. Milan's increasing salary structure kinda sucks but if he performs it's ok. Ehrhoff, Vlasic, and Murrary are at 3.2, 3.1, 2.5 each as well.that's about 42 mill or so right thereas far as pay increases, this year the biggest salary increase will be Ryane Clowe. after that you've got Pavelski and Setoguchi who have one more year each until RFA status. everyone will be looking for pay increases. That doesn't change his cap hit at all, of course. His cap hit is $4.333M, even if his pay is only $3.0M this season.Cheechoo's cap hit is only $3.0M, even if his pay will be $3.5M.The biggest problem with the Sharks cap situation, is that Clowe will need a big pay raise, and Setoguchi will get one after next season, so they'd be wise to not tie themselves up in too big of a contract for too long.Having said that, with Blake's $5M coming off, they might have the room to squeeze in a J-Bo, but it's unlikely, and then you get into a situation where you're paying a few guys a lot of money, and might have trouble filling in the holes (although I dunno if that would happen with Wilson's management). Maybe Blake gets resigned for a year or two, after how well he's played this year?

Blake getting resigned seems very likely to me. the question is the pay. 5 mill over 2 years would be great. probably will be closer to 8 over two. maybe he'll retire if they're lucky enough to win it all. go out on top.a cheechoo trade might be likely in the offseason. someone would be willling to take a chance on him as a top 6 guy. sharks have too much going on. though he's quite a good 3rd liner for the sharks.

I wonder what Cheech would look like on the Pens?I don't know enough about him, but he scored 50 goals one year, didn't he? Is he fast? Good hands?I wonder if he'd work on Sid's wing... Hmmm... Cheap option too.

he's not a good skater but had a nose for being in the right spot. not a guy who carries the puck or skates fast but he's good positionally, doesn't make mistakes in his own end and can play the dump and chase fairly well.he's really been quite good in his 3rd line role. you'll often see him on the ice at the end of the game.I just don't see the reason to keep him as a Shark if he's going to play the 3rd line role. Wilson wouldn't dump him by any means but I think he'll at least explore an option to replace him with a guy that's getting paid 2 mill / year less. should get good value for a guy that can score like cheech can. it's a bit unfair to say he only did well because of Joe when he after that Rocket Richard winning season (56 goals), he was battling injuries for a while and came flying out of the gate until getting hurt again and losing his spot. if you're only playing 3rd line role you're not going to be scoring but people around the league only look at his numbers.

Larose and Seidenberg they will probably try to resign, but wont pay a lot for either I hope. Id rather they just sign Seidenberg.Other 3 are probably done as Canes. Tanabe might be done, period. (concussion issues)I always hoped for better things from Tanabe, and I followed him thru Pheonix when Gretzky said "faster than Coffey," and suddenly people thought Tanabe was the next 100pt D. Oops. Maybe the Great One messed with his head, or maybe he was always just a really fast skater who couldnt do much else.Haven't seen enough of Ryan to comment either way, no idea what mngt thinks of him.

I guess since we're all weighing in on what we know best about, I shall do the same. I think Zednik and Dvorak will be gone, they're both playing a very similar role these days, so if one were to stay I'd say Zed. Peltonen wants to come back badly, and has voiced his wish to play when Florida opens in Helsinki, I do think he'll stay Pete DeBoer likes him a lot and has called him "...pound for pound the toughest guy I've met." Sprukts is an anomaly, guy has more question marks on him than Jim Carrey's Riddler outfit. Bouw...enough said there (though perhaps I could mention the deal that Florida just put on the table). Boynton will be back, and I do think Karlis will be as well. Jassen I can see out the door, especially if Bryan Allen returns in complete health. Anderson is someone Florida wants to keep but I think they understand that he has some value and that they can certainly try to shop him, or sign/ship, if they can get assets in return.

funny how the only real tough decision here is whether to keep or trade tkachuk at the deadline. everyone else is pretty clear-cut.. winchester stays and the rest accept a huge paycut or leave.I'd prefer most of them just leave, I guess.

Duane, you don't think Ottawa is shopping Kuba for whatever they can get?
Yes, but I can see if this current hot streak continues and Murray is not satisfied with the returns he just might go for it (esp if Kuba would sign for cheap next year)."In the past couple of days there have been reports that both Filip Kuba and Chris Neil have entered preliminary talks with the Ottawa Senators. This certainly doesn't mean both are necessarily going to be retained but more so that Murray would like to have an idea where he stands with both players leading up to the deadline. If I had to guess I would say it's more likely Neil is retained than Filip Kuba although I expect both to be moved (if the Senators are out of contention by then). The package the Thrashers received for Schneider is likely similar to the one Ottawa should expect for Kuba."
