therock99 0
hi,i have been reading this forum for about a weekk (since my buddy sent me the link)....anywayyy i'm finishing my fresh. yr. in college, i've been playing poker for about 6 mo. now, i didn't know how to play at all before, and i learned thru some home games that my buddies run...after a few good wins in these games, i knew i was ready to take my game to the next level, and started playing in a local card room...started offf losing big time (first 5 sessions there), but i new i could win if i put my mind to it, eventually started winning some there too....my rep. there (as far as i know) is as a pretty inexprienced/crazy player, but i use this to my advantage...problem is that the local card room is a pain to get to, so i decided to start playing online....started off at pokerstarts (my buddy fronted me 50$ to start), which i lost, pretty much due to bad beats and a few tough calls.........i read online that party poker has easier games, so i decided to try it out next....had a friend of mine do a 100$ deposit for me (i dont have a credit carD)....had to part with my stereo to get him to do it for me, but itz kool becuase i ddin't use it much anyway....started off losing it pretty fast, but i got in my usual groove and managed to build the 100 up to 225$ in just 1 night!!! (thank u pocket A's!!). the next night i moved up to the 200$ tables, and lost it all again on some bad beats........... i was pissed as hell, but i also realilzed that i was doing too many things wrong (playing too many hands, not believing that other players have a hand too)...so i figured i gotta give this one shot, after all, i know i can beat this game, i have won vs. my friends and at the cardroom.........so i beg my friend to deposit 100$ more on party poker for me...he finally agrees, but i had to give up my bike for it.......anyway, i play much better but still lose 75$!!!!! what is up with that??????????now i have only 25$ left from the original 100....i don't have a job this summer b/c i was planning on just playing and making some $$$ that way, but now i'm getting a bit discouraged........i'm getting a little worried about paying my rent if i don't start winnig really soon  i also don't really have too much more stuff to give away in exchange for poker deposits......i see that a lot of ppl. on this board seem to be winning online.......what is your secret?? please help me out, as i really have to start winning or else i don't know how else i will pay my rent/bills, etc. (i got a little fin. aid money during school, but i lost it...that's a whole other story........). i really think that i have the ability to be a winning poker player, i just haven't gotten my groove going online the same way i can when i play with my boyz.any tips/idea's are greatly appreciated..........just so you know, i have not read any poker books, but i got a starting hand chart from online, and also my friend who read some of supersystem basically explained to me the basic idea, so i figure i don't gotta waste the time reading when the best way to learn is play!! (also, playing is muchh more fun).please help me soon guys, i gotta start winning online, or else i'm gonna be seriously fuxked..........thanks in advance for all your advice guys!!! cdddc75 0
Three suggestions:1. Search this forum for "bankroll management".2. Search your keyboard for the ENTER button.3. If you can't bother to read books that will help you make money, don't bother playing poker.
orville 0
If you can't pay rent because you thought you could just play online poker to get money call 1-800 BETS OFF. You might have a problem. Try thinking of the money you might win as income in addition to the income from a real job. Only 15% of the people playing poker actually win and fewer make a living at it. JSHamm 9
Ok...I'm somewhat new here so I could be the butt of some horrible joke (I'm kind of hoping that's the case), but first you're showing signs of a gambling problem if you're losing college tuition and rent money (trust me, poker does you no good living in a cardboard box)...your life and your money, though.Second, I don't quite believe Super System or any other quality poker book can be "basically explained". You need to read them (again and again and again) and couple that with table experience.Start out at micro limits and get a feel for it, get some experience, build a solid bankroll (the variances will happen). Then when you feel comfortable you can move up.Other than that I don't know...just don't trade the microwave, you'll need it sooner than you know.
krup24 0
Maybe you should just get a job man. Trying to make a steady income in online poker is really tough. As for me I have a full time job and play online probably every evening. I used to play live but the convience of online poker is clutch. I play on pokerstars only. I struggled big x at first probably depositing upwards of $500. (50-100 max at a time) Never cashed out won a little here a little there. I found the best way to make money on the site is to play the sit n gos. I play 5+0.5 and 10+1 single table tournies only now. My last $50 deposit was 5 months ago. Since then I've cashed out nearly $1500. The trick in the single table tournies is patience patience patience. Wait for your spots. Let the clowns leave. All you have to do is finish in top 3 out of 9 to make money. Never put yourself in position to be eliminated early. Wait for the blinds to go up and become a little more aggressive (100-200 appx). I'm telling you the cash table were freakin killing me on the site. AA vs 1010 loose all in preflop. AK vs A9 loose all in post flop with A and no 9 on board. Cash tables are brutal. I also play multi tables but am down on those. Made 1 big hit for 400 to get myself on this roll. Now I have 100-200 coming in every week. The trick my friend is patience. Thats the best advise I can give you.
SAM_Hard8 50
started off losing it pretty fast, but i got in my usual groove and managed to build the 100 up to 225$ in just 1 night!!! Man where are you when I need money!Get a job, play microlimits online untill you get many thousands of hands under your belt and for God sakes play within your bankroll. TruePoker 1
Play micro limits, all day everyday, until you can play about 2500 - 3000 hands / day like me. Once you have played for a week, 21,000 hands and have come off winning money off micro limit you should now know the basic mechanics and maths of the game, noticing you only hit your flush draw 1 in 3 times you hit 4 on the flop, so only bet with 3 people in the pot to increase the value of your hand etc etc etc....Once you know the math of the game and have shown a profit from micro limits you are now ready to move up to play for money, this may be a week, may even be a month, may even be longer but you need something concrete before you can start playing..www.instantbankroll.com can spot you some money i think but since you already have an account I am not entirely sure of that situationwww.bonuswh0res.com is a good site if you want to pad out your losses whilst learning.regards,True Poker
nealdo17 0
1. Sell everything you have2. Hitch Hike to a casino3. Put all your money on your favorite color between black and red4. If you win, do it again5. If you win, do it again6. if you lose, quickly grab as many chips as possible and run to the cashier7. Cash the chips in8. Haul ass out of the casino9. Give all of the money you made to your friend to put online for you10. PM me and I will set up a private table for us to play heads at. I will wait for you to get "in your groove" before we play for real. If you lose all of your money, I will give it back to you. ** Even though this system may sound crazy, it is honestly a better gamble than not reading and studying the game within your limits before turning a large enough profit to beat a $5.75 job at McDonalds working only 20 hrs/week :wall:

dms26 3
Don't play with more than you cna afford to lose, if you have to sell things you probably need to get a job and use some of that money for poker.Don't try to make a living at something you've been doing for a few weeks, that's insane.Learn bankroll management, you need to be playing .01/.02 NL or .02/.04 limit at PStarsIf you're continually losing it's probably not bad beats. Pokerdad2222 0
I agree with the stay within your bankroll theory..You say you understand the ideas behind books enough to play but it seems to me that you dont understand anything. Your entire bankroll in one game??? You obviously didnt know what you were doing. Learn the ropes of limit poker to avoid huge variance. Sounds to me like you are trying to turn $50 into 50,000$ within a month. Its not gonna happen. Read articles about good winnings. Learn that $8 an hour playing is very good for microlimits. AND Most importantly "GET A DAMN JOB" You have only been playng poker for 6 months. Youd have a better chance making a living playing blackjack.
Silly String 0
Let me break it down for you. "There Ain't No Free Lunch!!"Before you deposit any more money to a poker site, learn more about poker. Because you can beat your buddies, doesn't mean you can beat people who have played ten to hundreds of thousands of hands. The game can be beat, but it isn't easy to beat, otherwise more people would do it for a summer job.
SAM_Hard8 50
I hate to be mean but thank God for people like therock99!These are the guys who see poker on TV and think "hey I can do that" they win a couple of times in their home games with other people of the same talent and then think they can do this for a living. These people are the meat on our table (sorry vegans.) The ones who make it posible for us to make money.Common rock sell all of your stuff, get a job and put your money on the line, but please pay your rent and your internet bill so you can keep feeding our accounts. SapphireTiger 0
it sounds like you thought that playing poker on-line would be easy money and money would be falling into your lap.it's not easy and it takes time to master and learn. It's a grind.
MRPICKLES 0
You should have 100XBB to play at what ever limit you are looking at. Read a book or search out some poker info, and once you find out what "100XBB" means you will be better off than you are now!Oh yeah and you better fin a job fast.
wannabe 0
You should have 100XBB to play at what ever limit you are looking at. Â Read a book or search out some poker info, and once you find out what "100XBB" means you will be better off than you are now!Oh yeah and you better fin a job fast. Â Â Â Â This is very very wrong... if you're talking limit, it should be 300x Big BetIf you're talking No Limit, which is what you are playing, you should have 1,500 x big blindSo in order to play the .5/1.00 no limit tables, you should have $1500 in your account. if you want to play the .10/.25 tables, you should have $375 in your account. This way you can battle variance which is inevitable, and gives you a fighting chance. I play 2/4 NL, so I MUST, no BUTS ABOUT IT, keep $6000 in my account at all times. you might think thats a lot, but guess what, I NEVER GO BROKE, and I probably won't as long as I keep my head, b/c of bankroll management. wingnut7 0
heres some advice, now this might sound a bit radical but it might help. GET A JOB! if you think you can pay your rent for the summer with only $200 dollars after playing for 6 months, good luck. even some of top pros weren't winning consistently when they first started. oh yeah, bankroll management might help too. TS Clark 0
Assuming you are not joking with this post (which, given the syntax, spelling, and punctuation, is a real possibility), here is my advice to you...1) Stop gambling. You seem to have a problem. If you find yourself unable to do #1 (and I really do recommend that you do #1), then...2) Stop playing no limit immediately. It's fine to play this game, but not if you have no idea how to play. Under those circumstances, it just becomes a way for you to do the inevitable (read: LOSE) very quickly (and without learning anything in the process).3) Read a book. Trust me, the people you are friends with are not the kind of people who can boil down poker theory into easily understood nuggets.4) It's been said by others. I'll say it again -- bankroll management. Play a limit that is at least allows you to have 200x the BB (300 would be better). I've seen people play with bankrolls smaller than this for the limits they play, but they are much better than you. Believe this.5) Again, said by others, but we learn through repetition... GET A JOB! Get one. Do it now. You have no poker bankroll and little poker skill. At this point in your personal development, you need employment that guarantees the following formula:WORK = $$...not...WORK = GOT MY ASS HANDED TO ME (while losing $$)6) See #1.We're being mean, but you should also know we're being honest. Poker is gambling, it's fun, etc.. It's also something that requires skill to succeed at. Skill requires discipline. Everything about your post screams that you lack that at this stage of life.Best wishes.

Socko669 0
Ok, some of this has been covered already but oh well: some things to consider:1. Read Super/System 1 and 2 back to back and then read them again. I am a profitable online player but still read poker books and study on a daily basis...the internet is a great tool. Read posts here or go to cardplayer.com and read the daily material. There is always more to be learned, and there is wealth of information out there. Not all of it is good, but you can never stop learning about poker. Watch the mistakes other players make and learn from them, likewise, watch the skilled players and learn from then as well. Getting trapped on a hand and losing can be a great learning lesson if you recognize how your opponent was able to get you.2. Start at lower limits that match your bankroll. dont move up until you have room to play and face potential losing streaks.3. Pick your best game and factor it into your bankroll. My best game is stud h/l, though i often win playing NL Holdem and Omaha H/L. As a result, i play stud games at the highest acceptable limits for my bankroll, followed by omaha/hold em. money management is key.4. Learn how to identify online opponents:Who is the calling station? the perpetual raiser? the tight wad? the blind stealer? the trap guy? the bluffer? the idiot? the solid player? the gambler?we dont have a lot of tells to look for online, so you must get to know your opponents that much more...take notes. Watch for bet patterns and the speed at which they bet, call, raise, etc. It's not foolproof, but it can help.5. Other easy ways to make money:---drop to lower limits and take advantage of inexperienced and reckless, action crazy players. ---play multiple sites in order to make the most of out deposit bonuses.---low buy in sit and go tourneys tend to be pretty easy. It's a real grind, as you can play for am hour and a half to only finish third and win a small amount, but by playing two or maybe three at a time for a good block of time and you can make a nice hourly profit that sure beats being at work.someone previously said that making money playing online poker is a real grind. i couldnt agree more...unless you have a huge bankroll and are a exceptional player or manage to make some big bucks in a big buy in tourney, its like having a job...it requires hours of work, discipline, and patience. if you dont have patience you will probably never be a profitable online poker player...your better of with online casinos and sportsbooks if you really just want to gamble.
