I'm Doing Some More Training.

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys.So I would like to take on a couple more people for s7s training.I realized that I've had roughly 25 people who have gone through the program and they have done pretty well during/after training......and that makes me really happy. For those who don't know who I am.....I've been playing pro poker for 11 years now, and have had the good fortune of having David Oppenheim, Ted Forrest and Tim Phan as my mentors.I typically play medium-high stakes mixed games. Having said that, I am comfortable with all games. But if you are looking for someone to teach you no limit or tournament poker specifically...you can find better people then myself. The course is 6 months, but everyone has the option of staying on for free after you finish the "core training". Tuition is 3k. If you are in a position where you REALLY want to train but can't afford the tuition, please contact me anyway. For some people the tuition is a lot, for others it isn't. When you break down the hours that I spend with a group, or a person, it's a really reasonable rate imo.Training has evolved over the years. But the true focus is on making you a better player for life. Barry Greenstein's Ace on the River would be a good analogy. A lot of training sites and individuals focus on the specifics of hands, and a game.......whereas I am more concerned with where you will be in 5 years. Again, if you have questions, feel free to ask.Feel free to ask questions here. Or send me a pm.Please be serious about wanting to learn. It's also important to remember that you get out of training what you put into it. Several people from the program have gone on to coach others, stake people, etc. The group itself is really tight nit. So it's important that you get along well with others and are supportive. *Please don't make this thread controversial. If you're not interested, I understand. But if others are interested, I think it can be a great experience for them. For those who want to train..........tell me about yourself, what you play, age, where you live, etc. Just the normal stuff so I can get a better feel for who you are, and if this would be a good fit.If anyone has any additional suggestions, I am open to them as well.Thanks. Good Luck.Steve

At least you are up front about it.But:"The group itself is really tight nit."Sorry but I am a nit picker."So it's important that you get along well with others and are supportive."I guess that means you can count me out on both.Best of luck.

I hear ya on those points. I guess I don't know any other way to describe it other then how I said it.But people are truly supportive of each other, and I think that makes the dynamic that much better. Poker by nature can be a tough game. Even if you are playing against friends, they are still trying to take your money. So, it helps to have people who have your best interest at heart around you playing the game that you play. They can understand exactly what you are going through......and people learn from one another.

Steve, how well versed are you at understanding the more advanced levels or "metagame" throughout NL Holdem, whether that be in cash games or MTTs? Do you focus on all forms of poker, or do you tend to narrow it down to Stud and some of the other HORSE type games?I'm really interested in becoming a better NL holdem player all around (and I feel like i've improved 1000% in the last 24 months) and if I feel like I could benefit from this type of training it would be worth the $3,000 for tuition. I guess i'm asking for more info.TY

That's a great question. I think in a lot of ways, poker is poker. I've certainly played my share of tournaments as well as nl hold em. So I understand both. Having said that, you will find people who are brilliant at nl cash games, and people who are brilliant in tournaments. I don't fall into either category. After having trained with me, some of my students found coaches specifically for nl, and I think they learned a lot. It's also important that the person who works with you can convey why certain things work, and why they don't. Not every great player is going to be a great teacher. To answer the first question specifically. I've played low stakes nl.......super high stakes. But online nl has changed a bit. Fr, HU, 6max. Different situations, different styles of play. These are things that we would need to discuss through e-mail or IM.I focus on all forms of poker. If someone wants to work on a specific game, I am more then happy to do that. I'm not a big fan of hand histories because there are so many variables that come into play. Poker sense is somethig that not everyone has. A good poker player can learn to take his skill set into different games. So in essence it wouldn't matter what form of poker you are playing.I have a different topic for each month that you train. The topics are geared toward preparing you to play as a pro. The things that you need to know in order to be successful. At least from my point of view.If you have more questions, it's probably easiest to speak via pm.I hope that helps.

If only I had the time and money to do this. I really wanted to go through this training back when I had time to play a ton of poker, but I could never really afford it. Today, I'm afraid it would be wasted on me because I don't have enough time to put into it. I do think that I could learn a ton and I hope to someday do this. I wish the best to all of Steve's future trainees. And Steve, save me slot for about about the 2012 - 2015 timeframe. :club:
