timwakefield 68
Any fans of Ricky Gervais/Steven Merchant/Karl Pilkington? They had a radio show together and then did a series of podcasts which were ridiculously popular, and they're still doing some now and then. Karl Pilkington is one of the most unique personalities in the world, and he's friggin hysterical. And Steven Merchant is one quick-witted bastard. "Head like a fuckin orange" turns up 250,000 google hits.Pilkipedia has tons of free downloads, etc. There's an awesomely amazing amount of hours of it if you go back into the old weekly radio shows too, which they have compiled with the songs taken out. His most interesting ideas are about animals and the human body.Probably my favorite feature is Do We Need 'Em, where Karl interviews a scientist on the question of whether "we need" a certain species of animal, focusing on species which get on Karl's nerves. Do we need em? OctopusDo we need em? Snails. And on other subjects:Karl laughs himself to sleepMonkey news! Little monkey fella robs a bank.Homeless fella calls Karl a dickheadOther random quotes:"Unless you've heard him, you can never really appreciate .. but he's like a real life Homer Simpson. The things he comes out with are extraordinary."-Stephen Merchant on Karl PilkingtonOn why worms come to the surface when it rains - "So the rain's comin down on the land, the worm goes 'what's goin on?' So it goes up and it sorta sees it's rainin, and then it goes back down again dunnit?"On chameleons - "Stay green. Stay in the woods, and stay safe.""Just been into the zoo, 'avin a look round an that. Went into the, er, into the aquarium. Mental, the amount of fish that are knockin' about" On octopuses - "When you see 'em in films, they're running about an' that and everyone likes an octopus." "I saw a cockroach playing Pacman. It was on the internet, right, and somebody had linked up a cockroach to err... to some... I can't even be bothered explaining it, but that's what I'm saying - everything is moving on" "I've been watchin birds more than insects recently, and the thing I've found with pigeons is: they've got wings but they walk a lot" "Just pop it on your wrist." - Ricky asks Karl how his 'invention' of a watch that counts down your life would actually work. Karl is asked: If you could travel back in time, and take one modern invention, what would it be?Karl replies: A gun, and shoot a lion in the head.
James D 0
The first time I heard about Karl Pilkington... on The Office DVD, outtakes/extras, I have never laughed so hard in my life.Comedic gold, right here.
timwakefield 68
See, this (lack of replies) is why I was wary of making a thread. To everyone except James: You don't know what you're missing! I know, everybody's always like 'Hey here's another hilarious thing that you'll totally love, I swear!' and you're like 'Oh yeah I'm sure, like I don't have enough humorous websites and such in my life.' But you're really seriously missing out if you don't know Karl and all his glory. He's not just some internet phenomenon, he's huge, and for good reason. Where my Brits at! timwakefield 68
Karl's review of "The Elephant Man."Karl: Today we're lookin at Elephant Man. John Merrick - one of his better pieces of work. Uhh, it's a sad film, I've never really been able to watch it all the way through...Ricky: Sorry, John Merrick's better piece of work was him being the elephant man, played by John Hurt?Karl: Yea.Ricky: Go on then.Karl: Uhh, sad film...It's about a fella who's got a funny head, and uh I think he lives in London in like about the 1930s or sommin like that, and he's bein picked on all the time and stuff. And um, the first time you watch it you'll probably cry a bit, and then the second time you watch it you're just sort of thinkin 'God that would be bad,' sort of havin a head like that, bein picked on all the time, and the third time you watch it you might think, you know, 'Ooooh, how does he get his jumper on?'...uhhh, then, I dunno probably bored of it the fourth time. But it's well worth watchin so uh, Elephant Man, uhhh, yeah see it.
timwakefield 68
Mods could you please move this to the entertainment section? Episode 1 of the new Ricky Gervais Show on HBO with Steve and Karl. It is animations of various stories and conversations from the podcasts and old radio series. It is amazing. http://hotfile.com/dl/29295319/928afbe/the...ys.avi.rar.html
BigDMcGee 3,353
I don't know how i missed this thread.. independantly of it, I dl'd the complete rickey gervais works from XFM and his podcast. I'd been listening to his latest series of audio books, Guide to" which is the first I'd come across him. Well, scratch that. .a friend of mine told me how great the pod cast was, after it was over, so I subscribed to something, which was basically Rickey Gevais advertising for his various projects. So when this "guide to XXX" series started, I'd listen to the little snippets, and just be slayed. So I dl'd some of the other guide tos, and they KILLED me.. so then I DL'd the complete Gervais works, and jesus ****ing christ, this is the best entertainment known to man. They need to throw a jillion dollars at him, steve and karl and make them the new stern.
Nikki_N 17
I subscribed to the Ricky Gervais podcast. Now the trick will be finding the time to listen to them.
Mercury69 3
I think Ricky is one of the best stand up comedians of all-time, based on what little I've seen. I will check out all of these eventually. Karl Pilkington...sounds like a fake name lol

Mercury69 3
Thanks for playing, Merc. As always.Sarcasm and irony don't mix and makes you sould like a teenage girl. Your comment, which I assume was meant to be funny, is likely pleasing only to you and your dog-like "living in the moment" way. You really have that way about you and it's cute...kind of a snuffly, spitty squeaky toy cute. Perhaps it will lodge in your larynx and cut off your air supply.

Mercury69 3
Odd that you criticize my humor, when the next funny, interesting, or thought provoking post you make will be your first. It's a fair philosophical question you raise, BigD. To whit: Can one criticize something that does not exist? Let's take...erm...your sense of humour, for example. Generic, needlessly derogatory, unrefined and sourced from a variety of equally uninformed, derivative excuses for what passes as "funny" in your red-neck of the woods. Fair to say, I am a little surprised that you enjoy Ricky Gervais et al, and yet you still have time to criticize a 5 second post I made, briefly lauding RG's comic genius. I guess I'm more willing to spend time firing at those who have fired upon me, rather than imbue my every post with with same kind of wit and verbal acumen I am now broadsiding you with. Avast and shear off, lest your dinghy be sunk.

That's karl pilkington, you fucking twat. Also, I wasn't criticizing your original reply for being lazy. I criticized it for adding nothing to the thread, and noted how the post was consistent with your general posting style, which adds nothing to the forum. Just to be clear. Now get out of here before you embarrass yourself trying to be funny again.
