End Of The World In 2012

Recommended Posts

Do you believe the Mayans? They had a very precise understanding of our solar system's cycles and believed that these cycles coincided with our spiritual and collective consciousness. The Mayans knew that our sun every so often synchronized with the central galaxy and from this central galaxy received a spark of light which causes the sun to shine more intensely producing solar flares and changes in the sun's magnetic field. They say that this happens every 5,125 years and also that this causes a displacement in the earths rotation, and because of this movement great catastrophes would be produced. Makes sense I guess. So in 3113 B.C. the Mayans predicted that the world would go though a 5,125 year cycle before the sun would cause such devastation that no life could survive.I'm still not sure how I stand on all this but there is some pretty interesting stuff on that calendar. For instance...The Mayans prophesied that the start of the last 13 year period would be marked by a solar eclipse on August 11, 1999. They made this prophecy in 3113 BC...and yes...there was a solar eclipse on that exact date.My question would be concerning the translation of this calendar. There's no way it says August 11, 1999 because there was no "august" in 3113 BC. I would think it probably says X number of days from day Y ....yada yada...Anyhoooo... I digressDoes this mean they are good at predicting the end of the world? No... but it means they have a pretty good understanding of the solar system which they claim is the reason the world will end in 2012.How does any of this fit in with your faith or no faith? IMO... it has nothing to do with it. If they are saying that the galaxy is set to destruct on that day, your faith can not change it.

Heh.

Ummm, someone should have told the Mayans that the earth is only 6K years old. I mean, those jerks were way off!

I think we can all agree that the rapture will transpire before 2012, so there's that.

the authors of the mystic/new age spiritual-type websites and books responsible for spreading the misleading unscientific claims in your OP.
Serious question.... can you explain the "misleading unscientific claims"?Can you direct me somewhere that has a different interpretation of what the Mayans were saying?I'm curious.

who here speaks mayan and can translate that they prophesied that the world would end in 2012? isn't it just that their calendar ends on that date?if i understood eclipses and made my own calendar i could predict two things too: eclipses and when my calendar would end.

If you had a time machine, you could be a leading scientist/God. Actually, if you had a time machine, you would probably be those things in this era as well...

It may be as silly as the whole Y2k thing.... I was just wondering what other peoples take on it was.A lot of people think they know what it is but really don't.I'm not saying the Mayans are right nor am I saying that I believe all the interpretations of the calendar. It is more complex than "their calendar just ends" though. The one thing that is fascinating to me is that a culture could be as in tuned and knowledgeable about the solar system in such a primitive time.I guess they didn't have shit else to do though right? No boss cracking the whip, nagging wife, teenage kid wanting $500 to go shopping with friends.Nope.... just lay around and look at the stars.

Well, I'd say modern man's understanding of the Solar System is way better than their understanding, and we say that the world won't end in 2012, so we win this round.

IF you're buying into this 2012 nonsense, you're dumb as a sack of hammers.
whatever holmes, I'll be hanging ten on a sweet swell over top of your house with my assault rifle and canned goods strapped to my back that december, so guess who's gonna be as dumb as a sack of hammers then? hmm?

Didn't Negrodamus also predict the End coming in 2012? Was his prediction based on the Mayans' or just a coincidence?
I think his was more vague with the exact date... involved a comet hitting the Earth around that time.
