New Kid On The Block...

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, just wanted to say hello as I have been lurking and reading EVERYTHING on these forums since I was probably 16 (when I first got into poker) and FINALLY decided to join now and hopefully contribute, turning 19 a few days ago becoming legal here in Canada (finally!). I have probably read every single blog post and video diary of Daniel's and that is what got me hooked to coming back everyday and seeing what else is new in the poker world. I don't know what it is but there's something about the vibe here that I like more than any other poker forum out there. I don't know what it is, it just feels almost like everyone is friendly and knows each other... :ts A little about me, I am in school currently studying IT computer science (blah) first year, and have been playing poker since I was 16 when I was introduced to it by my older brother, playing with just hundreds of pennies, heads up. :4h After that I was just hooked, just reading everything I could get my hands on, playing with friends and just about anyone... Itching to deposit online, but of course I couldnt, so as any other teenager in my place would have done, I opened up an account with Neteller (back when they allowed US and Canada customers) in my Mom's name, accompanying it with a poker account in her name as well LOL. I deposited $150 to take advantage of their bonus promo at the time, and told my mom the purchase was for a few web design books that I wanted to take up, since she knew I was into all this IT stuff (I felt so guilty about lying to my mother)... Anyways I was so eager to play that I just sat down at the .10c/.25c tables and got my ass handed to me losing $25, mainly because i was playing like a retard with no consideration for position or anything really, I was just excited I got money onto a site and could finally play. It didn't take me long to figure out that cash games were not my style, and so I switched over to MTT's, sit n goes, and heads up sit n goes, and haven't looked back. I started out playing the $2 - $5 levels of sit n goes, while regularly once in a while taking my winnings and taking shots in bigger MTT's with buyins up to $35 with very reasonable success, and since have worked my way up (with reasonable BR management) and am now playing at the $100 - $200 level Sit n' Goes, and once in a while if I have time, I will take a shot at one of the bigger MTT's out there (no big achievements in those... yet). I would say my biggest regret I have now was me withdrawing money back when I was just happy to win, not considering that if I wanted to be anything half respectable, I need to climb my way up stakes. If I had not taken out money I would be able to play way higher, but at the same time I dont know if I would even want that, as it only gets tougher. (any insight on this from anyone with experience would be great).Just recently I turned 19 so I headed over with a couple of friends to Fallsview casino in Niagara Falls to play some $5/$5 NL and had a very good time and won a very nice amount, mainly due to people paying off with middle pairs (LOL) and chasing their draws even when i dont give them the right price/pot odds. The pace of a live game is much slower and i found myself wanting to play hands that I KNOW were not right to play as it wont be profitable, so I guess I need more discipline in that sense. Needless to say I will be going back whenever free time comes up. :5c As for future plans, Im not sure what I would end up doing with my life. Im obviously going to finish school, and see what new things might arise from poker... So at this point Im not sure if I will pursue a career in IT with poker on the side, or be playing poker for the rest of my life exclusively... scary thoughts to think of at the moment, but at this time Im just gonna enjoy life."Boooo", "get a blog", yeah yeah LOL... Reason I didnt write this in a blog is because recently I have seen posts of people writing really interesting things about how they started out, their journey, and overall the poker lifestyle, and people would always respond well to them so I figured what better way to introduce myself to this poker community than share a little about myself, that could encourage others to have confidence in themselves to start something new.Anyways, thanks for reading my boring shpeel and Happy New Year! :club:

welcome to FCP, you also might want to check out Casino Niagara for cheaper games and softer action. It's the sister Casino to Fallsview and it has a better poker room.

TREK. It's Star Trek: The Next Generation. Yeah, I was afraid of that. Everybody loves that screen shot. Well, welcome anyway, I guess. You should just go ahead and get into Star Trek. It's...it's pretty important.

Don't worry. I know a lot of people that were. I'll admit that it's very catchy and annoying

Billy Shakespear wrote a whole buncha sonnets.LFO Recognize! Amazingly, they actually hung on in Europe for a few more "singles". Their Wikipedia is about 12 miles long, surprising for such a one-trick pony.

The fact you made the thread and didn't get flamed at all is quite impressive. I have no idea how you managed to do that. I'm not good at flaming people so I won't do it either. :club: Welcome to FCP.
