theresa113 0
I have always been the first one up and as kid my parents made me make the coffee. I think that is why it took me over 3 decades to finally drink the stuff. About 8 or 9 years ago I started drinking the pre-made cold frappachinos made by Starbucks at your local convenience store. It was about 6 or 7 years ago when I started drinking the real stuff only because we had this great coffee place called Barnie's. Barnie's had flavored coffees and I would would get a cup that had about 60% coffee and 40% milk. Slowly I began to reduce the milk. A couple of years ago Barnie's got converted to Starbucks and I had increased to a little more milk since their coffee was stronger. However, my stomach started to hurt whenever I drank coffee so I stopped. Then both my sister and mother told me the same thing happened to them. The figured out it was the milk not the coffee causing the problems so they switched to soy milk and now they can drink coffee without any stomach pains. I thought it was the coffee upsetting my stomach, I had no clue it was the milk. I switched to soy milk and now I am a full blown coffee addict. I just love the stuff and now I am making pots of coffee at home. I started off buying the Starbucks Breakfast blend. But a few weeks ago there was a sale of New England Coffee at the grocery store and it was quite good. So, I am hoping you all share with me your favorite coffees. I want some ideas. Also, is it worth me investing in a good coffee pot? Do you grind your own beans? Anyway... tell me your coffee stories and what you like and don't like. I want to be a coffee connoisseur. MisterB 2
Kopi Luwak is the world's most expensive coffee. Though for some, it falls under the category of "too good to be true." In the Sumatran village, where the beans are grown, lives a breed of wild tree cat. These cats eat the beans, digest them and then... defecate. The villagers then collect and process the stools. It is the combination of the beans and the gastric juices of the tree cat that give Kopi Luwac...... its unique flavor... and aroma.

renaedawn 1
I just recently became a coffee addict as well. SpecBrad's wife and her innocent suggestion that we should get a "Hazelnut Skinny Latte" while we waited for Nikki's plane was the beginning of the dark descent. If it were just Starbucks, I could have overcome that because I have an overwhelming aversion to paying $4 for coffee unless it's a special occasion like waiting for Nik in an airport. However, Specbrad's asstastic wife had to have some starbucks hazelnut coffee and sugar free hazelnut coffeemate at home the next morning. Hussy. Now I'm hooked. I went and bought a coffeemaker (first one I've ever owned in my life) when we got back from Brad & D's house. I've tried other stuff now in the year or so since this addiction developed but my favorite is Gevalia Hazelnut with a spoonful of Splenda and some CoffeeMate hazelnut sugar free creamer. In fact, I think Gevalia might be my overall favorite brand. There's just no bitterness at all. I think SalParadise will back me up on this one.

Balloon guy 158
I blame women for the feminization of coffee that resulted in Starbucks and now all coffee cost >$1.50 everywhereBut I also love women, so I am conflictedBut I do like being able to get a Starbucks gift card and it counts as a real gift for my wife, when any other gift card is completely unacceptable even though she takes back nearly 100% of any clothes I buy her which is in effect just a silkier gift card isn't it?Well isn't it?I've had a Venti already, can you tell
JubilantLankyLad 1,957
a silkier gift cardi like this expression, i think i shall steal it.(buy some lingerie, don't even have to bother trying to get the size right)w: what did you get me?m: a silky gift card!
rivergirl 2
i've always been a coffee drinker...at least as long as i can remember. Back in high school, i didn't make it to homeroom without a cup in my hand ( i still don't know how i got away with it).In Canada, we have mostly Tim Hortons which is imo, wayyyyyyyy better than starbucks. There is nothing fancy about their coffee, its just coffee. No foam, no flavor, just genuine coffee and it's the best. I've tried really hard to do the starbucks thing, we have a few here and i love their biscotti, but their coffee is too confusing and doesn't taste anywhere near good enough to spend 5 or 6 bucks on a cup. At home, there is almost always a pot of coffee going and if i don't get through at least a pot before i get in my car in the morning, i'm useless for pretty much the entire day (plus at least one stop at timmie's on my way into work). I think SalParadise will back me up on this one.I cannot stress this enough, join gevalia. best coffee I've ever had and that's by a long shot. it makes the best starbucks stuff you can buy taste like month old folgers. I don't know anything about the flavored ones though because I'm a man and I don't drink frufrufaggoty mochalatachinos flavored with hazelnut raspberry brulets, but I'd imagine they make those well. my favorite is the espresso blend which is the darkest roast they have. it is awesome, and I drink it black. no sugar, no milk. the way I see it, if its 8 bucks for 8 ounces or whatever (it ain't that cheap, but it isn't crazy expensive either), I want to taste the coffee not something else. jeff_536 3
I like my coffee like I like my men: Strong, dark and sweet. What?A gay guy my sister used to work with actually used this line once. And here's Sal, talking to his buddies. The first 30 seconds, anyways.

grocery_mony 8
Cant function without coffee in the morning. Have a Venti black brewed coffee every morning on my way to work. Every once in awhile I will have one of Starbucks specialty drinks in the afternoon. That Expresso Truffle one was pretty tasty.

checkymcfold 0
i used to run a coffee shop, and the best coffee i could find for the money without going super expensive is from this roaster:http://www.barringtoncoffee.com/my personal favorite roasts from them are the indian mysore and ethiopian blends. it's honestly the best coffee i've ever had that wasn't going to cost over 30-50 bucks a pound. it's also unbelievably important to purchase as much of your coffee as possible from fair trade growers. the coffee industry, perhaps more than any other super mainstream industry (though i'm sure some i don't know about are equally terrible), is generally so heavily geared toward middle man profits that the original growers get less than 5% of the profits in a lot of cases, with middle and end companies taking everything else and doing some pretty bad stuff to the workers in south america. as much as i'm not a big fan of starbucks, they actually do a good job of ensuring that a decent amount of their coffee is fair trade and that they don't **** over the columbians so badly, generally.for those who may not know, fair trade coffee is purchased directly from the grower and doesn't have the middle man step that jacks up the price of poor quality beans and allows original growers to take their fair share of the profits from their product.
