Just was arguing with a friend. Is it possible to make 40 dollars an hour @ 1/2 nl over the long run? I personally think that's insane to win 20 bbs over the long run in any game. 20 bb's in an hour of live poker is about 35 hands or less.Just wondering what kind of hourly rate people make in live games. 10bbs? 5bbs?Thanks!edit. This is in Las Vegas. He says it's possible for him to make 300 bucks a day over long term @ 1/2 nl playing 8 hours a day. (Which is actually much more than 20 bbs.)Now he is saying 20-30bbs an hour.Just give me your thoughts.

It's hard to say. It seems doubtful that anyone would be able to do this over the very long run, but there are variables that could make this possibly over a somewhat prolonged period of time. Most 1/2 NL games are pretty terrible, so if a good player had good game selected, played expertly and ran pretty well I could see him beating the game for this rate over a pretty long period. After all, as you said live you only get in something like 30 hands per hour, which means that it would take like 300 plus hours just to get in 10K hands and that's not even all that significant of a sample size. Over the course of several years, I doubt the game could be beaten for this much, but over several months or even a couple of years, I could see it happening. Especially if said player wasn't putting in a ton of hours a week.

I've actually tracked my live session win rate over this year, and although it's a very limited sample since my live options aren't great because I'm 19, I logged in about 85 hours at the 1/2NL game this year at the charity casino with a $16.35/hr rate.edit: i doubt i could keep this win rate to be honest and would be happy to be make around $12/hr, which is a little more than I make at my current job.

If you play optimal and average 30 hands per hour, playing 8 hours per week 45 weeks a year the highest you could average would be $27.43/hour.I have all the statistics and documentation to back this up. If anyone is interested PM me and I will forward it along to you.

I"ve averaged $14 an hour over my past two years of 1/2 NL $100 max play. I'd say the max buyin and average buyin makes a huge difference in possibilities, but I'd still say $40 an hour is a bit too much to be making that as a long term average.

Hi I am the Friend He is talking about in the post. I think I can avg 20bb/hr playing 1/2nl. A few points firstly. I know people are posting their hourly rates and this seems impossible based on the winrates, however, I will be playing 1/2nl strictly in LAS VEGAS. Now i dont know if many of you are familiar with the 1/2nl games there but they are the softest you will find anywhere. Secondly, I would be using extremely good game selection and since there are tons of tables/casinos in a close viscinity on the strip this would allow me to find great action tables with a bunch of loose passive tourists. Third, I would be buying for the MAX buyin which would ensure that I cover the table. Buyins at the games id be playing would be 1/2nl with a 300$ max buyin so id have 150bb at all times minimum, probably more.I am confident I can beat this game with these paramters in Las Vegas in the long run. Anyone have las vegas stats? Ive talked to one guy who said he avgs 15bb/hr and he is a nitThanks for the replies!

How will you do this without sitting at every table in every casino? Also, how will you know who the whale tourists are?

to me long term would be 5 years + but in say 1 year and under and 150 bb games its alot more possible you can basicly nut peddle and do this as long as the players are paying you off .
So were talking pre-op here?

You're wrong. You can't do this long term. I'd bet my house on it. Good day.
i too think this is pretty much indisputable. I would be suprised/very impressed to see somebody do $20 an hour over a significant sample. i have no doubt that you could run at $40 an hour for a what feels like a very long time. give it 5k hours (about 3-5 years of play). and go look at some graphs of good online players. try to imagine what a 10k hand break even stretch is going to feel like live. if i was going to play 1/2 for a living i would plan my budget around something between $8 and $10 an hour. in other words, get a job waiting table or bartending and play part time until you save up enough to start playing 2/5 part time.

So why do you care if other people think it is possible? Just go do it then.P.S., I don't think you can do it.

I know that mine is Limit but playing $3-6 and $4-8 Kill games I am at 47.5 hrs and 9.5 BBs per hour for a +$1,226Anyone know if this is sustainable, I know for me personally it won't be because I can no longer play at the casino I played at the most and the other one I play at there isn't near the amount of money available to win.

TB? Your wrong no explanation=GeniusDo you have real life expereince to back this up?How many hours have you logged in at vegas 1/2nl games?
Do you realize how good you have to run to win $40 an hour every hour long term?Tilt, game selection, getting burnt out, being lazy, being overconfident, being card dead, flat out not being good enough. All reasons why you won't do this.

no.a bet an hour is considered good. im not sure how much the kill adds, but the poor play you should find at those levels should make at least a bet and a half an hour possible. so im gonna guess you could do two bets an hour.
