BigDMcGee 3,367
Bob Hope... he won the '65 five card stud championship, totally sucking out on Johnny Moss. Bob Hope is a rotten suck out!
newmonkey 0
I believe Josh Arieh won a limit bracelet in 1999, Miami John for No limit in 1997 and Al Krux for Pot Limit Holdem in 1996Harry,I believe it was at the Commerce last year when you played in the WPT event and I was quite impressed when you repeatedly apologized to whoever it was you had accidentally slow rolled with your Aces because you thought someone had yet to act, I don't think many other players would do the same. You play the game with great class.lol, i think that was too phil laark. harry thought that there was another person still in the pot. well, talking about phil lark, I would add him to the list. he's irish, and you know what theey say about the luck of the irish. anyone who can win 3 consecutive preflop all ins while being 2-1 dog stands a good chance. but, i really do expect marcel luske to win a bracelet soon. his reads are incredible. I suspect his upturned sunglasses are fitted with some x-ray device. I've seen him fold his pp aces on the flop because he knew his opponent had KKs, and had flopped a set. Anyone who can do that deserves a bracelet.
Pokerghost2 0
when i read peoples opinions of gus hansen it makes me think hes underestimated a little. 3 things about gus style that make him great. First, you cannot put him on a hand after the flop or before. Second he wins a ton of small pots when scared players lay down hands like A10 AJ and KQ to him preflop so they dont have to get involved with him. This is true, he raises with 9 4 they fold A10 or whatever. 3rd he has a very good knowledge of implied odds, he knows that with the right flop he can bust a guy with 2 crappy cards and a gutshot draw. it may be like a 11 to 1 shot to hit, but remember his draws are all payed for by relentless aggression. Also its hard to tell when hes hit a flop hard, the board reveals nothing when ur heads up w a guy like that.it looks stupid on tv to see guys folding top pr to gus while we know he holds nothing, but its a lot easier to see that from the couch. Gus gets my vote. Now put him in a full ring limit holdem i think he loses his ass. ur implied odds are minimal in that setting and will never offset what u lose playing every hand. braminc 0
You can't not include Josh Arieh. We're talking about WSOP tourney play. He's the 8th all time money winner in the WSOP and hasn't a bracelet!Of 43 WSOP millionaires there's 4 without bracelets - Josh AriehMiami John CernutoAl KruxGlenn HughesI agree with Erick Lindgren and Gus Hansen being great players, but there really can't be any denying Josh here.arieh is only a wsop millionaire because of one tournament tho, and if u include hiim, waht about david williams?? Emptyeye 0
Marcel Luske is near the top the top of that list, if only because I believe he was the only player besides Harrington to even get close to the final table in the main event both of the last two years (I believe it was a 14th in 2003, and a 10th in '04). And yeah, his reads are sick.

His 1st tournament ever was the $2,000 NL wsop event in 2002. 1st tournament ever, and he finishes 3rd in a WSOP event. He's cashed for about $250,000 in WSOP events since that time. And again, keep in mind this guy's only been playing tournaments about 3 years.
HangukMiguk 8
And yeah, his reads are sick.Agreed. It's like Marcel can see through the cards. I remember a hand at the WSOP where an opponent had pocket kings, over Marcel's middle pair on the flop. The kings put a bet in on him, and he folded saying, "kings are good." Not a king on the board. All I could do was say, "Wow."

He made some similar read postflop one time though, and of course i can't remember exactly what it was. Marcel has the unique ability to make you want to give him your chips. Well, not quite, but you know what I mean, he's a cool enough guy that you wouldn't mind losing to him as much as you would the jackass who's seen a few episodes of the WPT and thinks he's the greatest thing since sliced bread. Guest XXEddie
there was lnother hand though(less remembered) when he had A4o and was allin with another guy with KJ i think. marcel goes "I have two overs, you have a small pair"
kerplunk 0
XXEddie, that's pretty funny. I don't remember this hand, but there seems to be a bit of humor involved. With a hand like A4, it seems unlikely that Marcel actually thinks he has two overcards. Since you say this is was an all-in hand (meaning he'd have to show his A4), it would seem that Marcel was just messing around. On the other hand, it's interesting to think about what Marcel might have been trying to achieve if he didn't have to show his hand. Specifically, I wonder how often Marcel calls out intentionally incorrect predictions. It's fascinating to imagine how Marcel or other high level players might try to use these planted bits of disinformation to manipulate opponents. Against some opponents, you might try to call their cards correctly in order to give them pause ("damn, he's good. i gotta be careful.") But against other players, you might give a false read to throw them off ("ha, he was way off".) This mix of truth and lie could be pretty powerful. In comparison, when a player volunteers information about their hand ("good fold, I had the straight"), most opponents put very little weight behind it and assume that the person is lying most of the time. On the other hand, when players show off their cards in an attempt to manipulate opponents, they can only tell the truth, so to speak. Regardless, Marcel is obviously very gifted at reading other people's hands. But that would be the case even if he just kept them to himself. He must feel he's gaining an advantage by voicing his reads so frequently. Intentionally giving false predictions is just another wrinkle that a sophisticated player might use. And, oh yeah, Luske is defintely in line to get a bracelet.[/i]
