How did you get to watch the Larry game when you first started? I'm thinking that if I wanted to watch the big game in Bobby's room or something like that, they prob wouldn't let me.
in the larry game it is played in public but the big game is in a private room

Now...if u wanna spin a ball on a wheel and pick numbers I AM GAME!!!!!
QFT. Game is amazing, especially if buzzed/drunk and my mind isn't screaming "You can't win in the long term at this!"My train of thought is generally homer-ish "Ooohhh... Shiny ball can win me money?"

So, I have played craps exactly once, and it was a quite the experience. We were at Vegas jumping from casino to casino getting $1 chips from every casino for a friend, and had stopped at Imperial Palace. Well, ok, we were getting casino chips, but let's be real here, we were gambling and drinking at every single casino. We had started early with a nice lengthy Beer Gao session, which went as planned. For those of you that don't know, Beer Gao is simply taking over a Pai Gow Poker table, playing to push every hand, and ordering as many drink type things as we can as quickly as we can. We all had our buzz on and were jumping from black jack table to black jack table running about even overall. The crew in this case included me, my wife, a gentleman by the name of Matt Tabak (who Nikki has likely met at before at a convention we were both at), his girlfriend, Dan Gray (Nikki, this was my co- manager for that event) and his girlfriend. Dan.. is a big craps fiends, but I had thus far kept him away from those tables in favor of card games of varying sorts. But then, Mother Nature called, and off to the rest room I went, I was amused to note, sticking out of the restroom trash was one shoe.. Just one. My drunken state found this quite amusing when combined with the realization that, for reasons I can not recall, I am wearing Mr. Potato Head boxers. I have no idea what kind of omen this is, but it certainly was an amusing one. As I came out, Tabak finds me to state that, surprise surprise, Dan is playing craps.I wander over to watch him play, standing at one of the far ends of the table, next to him, and apparently I am standing on the wrong side, as Dan finishes his roll and they hand the dice to me. I try to pass them off, but this is not working, as everyone is egging me on to roll as only a wild craps table can do. I place a bet on Pass because I have no idea what to do, and roll the dice, and the entire table goes silent. You have to understand here that A) I am intoxicated, B) I have no idea what I am doing and C) I am an ex gamer, rpger. So when the pit boss explained to me that just rolling the dice on the matt about one foot was not a valid roll, I was confused, and everyone else was .... very much amused. The pit boss kindly explained to me that my dice needed to hit the back wall for the roll to be considered a valid roll. Now, what my drunken state translated that to, was that I had to hit the back wall ON THE FLY, so I wound up and pitched those mother ****ers across the table with the power only a drunken gamer can muster, where they struck the player opposite me right in the chest, then fell to the table.Thankfully he found this amusing, because, well, he was a big gentleman, and I don't think I would have stood a chance to be honest. The pit boss, without missing a beat, says "Sir, the back wall of the play field, not the back wall of the casino," and hands the dice back to me. Apparently this guy has the patience of a saint, or is a slow learner. Or both.Fortunately, I was able to get things right after that, and went on a good enough run to make everyone happy and make about $50 for myself before I passed the dice, and quickly escaped the casino before the large man I had pelted with dice decided to change his mind about the humor value of me pelting him with little red cubes.I have never been back to a craps table.Ray

I have to say, I enjoyed reading about Ted Forrest and I hope Steve keeps this feature going. I'm afraid this thread got a little hijacked and that bothers me a bit. Hopefully we can keep it a little more on topic in future threads.

I've heard Ted described before as extremely unothrodox, but I've never heard his play beyond that. The only even slightly detailed description of it was by this 2+2 guy at the 2007 wsop playing with him at the 6 handed event. He didn't recognize ted at first, and thought he was a loose calling station. Then, someone clued him on on who he was. The way he described ted's play wasn't flattering, but he admited that ted was world class, so there was probably something he wasn't understanding. Anyway, that's just about it w/r/t Ted's actual play I've heard, so I'd be curious to hear how you would describe it. What makes it so unorthodox, how does he play hands that are so different from other guys. Also, you (steve) said that he sometimes tells you stuff that you literally don't understand what he's talking about. Could you give a specific example of that, that sounds fascinating to me.

I've known Ted for several years now. We played together on occasion in cash games and tournaments.About three years ago I had the opportunity to start attending the "Larry Game" as an observer. This was a form of training for me. After sitting there for countless hours, Ted and I eventually became friends. One day at the Larry Game I told Ted that I had a vision regarding an upcoming WPT tournament........Bay 101 Shooting Stars which was about 3 weeks away at the time. I explained to Ted that he was going to take 1st or 3rd. He had yet to win one of those, and he is a pretty supersticious guy.So we flew out to San Jose and I opted not to play, instead deciding to sweat Ted in the tournament. Everything was going according to plan. On the third day I became bored and decided to go to San Francisco for the day. When I came back to Bay 101 that evening Ted was short stacked, and said.......where the hell did you go, I've been hanging on by a thread here. Something like that anyway. He managed to end the day strong. Later he went on to win the tournament. Since then Ted and I have gotten to know each other pretty well. I have played with him in mix games, as well as in the Larry game. Ted is the epitome of a guy who thinks outside the box. You literally never know what is going on in his head when he is at the table. He makes some of the most unorthodox plays I have ever seen. But it usually works for him. He is the kind of person that looks at something and sees it in a completely different way then anyone else.Ted is one of the best stud players in the world. When I say stud, that includes stud8 and razz as well. His weakest games are draw games. 2-7, badugi, etc.I have often sat with Ted when he is playing stud and asked why he did certain things. Sometimes it makes sense, sometimes I disagree, and sometimes I have absolutely no clue what he is talking about.Ted's cell phone. His cell phone is his biggest enemy. He gets so many calls from random people that it serves as a distraction. I have often told Ted that if I could have his phone for a month, I would bet large sums of money that he would win at a much more rapid pace.Craps. I have shot dice with Ted quite a few times. I honestly have no idea how to play, true story......I just don't care about the game. But when I go with Ted to play he has NEVER lost. Often I will shoot for him. Things seem to work out quite well.Funny story. One day after playing craps we went to the Wynn buffet. The hostess sat us down along with another friend of ours. Ted turned to us with a straight face and said.........so do we just get our own food here? And he was completely serious.Last year we took a private jet to Bay 101. From LA to San Jose. They send out this jet for the VIP players. I was lucky to be able to get on the flight with Ted and a few other people. On the flight I sat next to Dan Harrington who is probably the most negative guy I have met. I have never played with him, and don't know him. JC says he's a great tournament player. But after listening to him for an hour, I wanted to jump off a bridge. That is NOT to say that he isn't a nice guy. I thought he was very warm and personable. But his thoughts on tournaments are pretty grimm.Ted is a genuinly nice guy, with a huge heart. He reads people incredibly well and understands poker in a way that many people never will. Daniel N once said that playing with Ted is like being in the eye of a hurricane. Prop betting. Ted LOVES to prop bet. Not in poker games regarding hands. But weight bets, athletic bets etc.One time Ted and I made a bet about how much someone weighed. It was a smallish bet. And the other guy was a friend of ours. I had 190 and over. We called the guy and he said he was 190. Ted seemed so upset with the idea of losing that I offered to just call the bet a draw. He hates to lose. That's honestly all I can think of off hand. If you have questions, feel free to ask.Hope you enjoyed.*Disclaimer: These are my personal opinions, views, and experiences.
I played with Ted for about 5-6 hours at the Stud event at the LAPC a couple years back. I really enjoyed the time with him there as I knew stud was his best game. Good to be able to play with him and watch alot of his play.Brag time....Chopped it 3 ways

The larry game is played in a casino much like the Bobby's room game and at either you'd be escorted away by security unless you wanted to buy in. Or unless you know someone who is a regular in the game who will vouch for you and politely ask the others if they don't mind if you sit there and sweat the game a while. In other words, you gotta know someone.

I remember last summer at the Series Steve. You texted me to come over, Ted was at the FT (forget the event ?)I get there and that place was actually pretty empty. You and Anna and Ted were just sitting there by yourselves really, Ted would run back and forth from the table to our group occasionally, whispering stuff, talking crap etc. Nice guy, if not a bit shy? His agent was there too, a real firecracker. Fun lady.Ted didn't win, but seemed to take it ok. We all walked out and that was that...cool night.
This was the event we watched Nutz...6/18/2008 Ted Forrest5th $144,427 2008 39th Annual World Series of PokerPot-Limit Omaha W/ReBuys (Event 34) $1,500 buy-inAfter Ted busted we went to Emerils Delmonico Steakhouse and you bought me & Steve dinner...thanks BTW. Great read Steve and Im looking forward to more.

I have been to 2 WPT boot camps and found them to be informative and fun. A FCP boot camp would sell out...do it at the beginning of the WSOP.or... do one in Palm Springs and we can stay at BG's house.? for Ted - Big name players seem to love pit games ( he plays craps - TJ too obv.) I have seen Barry G playing 2K a hand at the Bellagio. Do they play them because they think they have an edge ala Andy Bloch or just for recreation?
I think it's probably fun and they must figure to have an edge somewhere. I have heard that TJ Cloutier is not very good at craps though.
lolcrapsamentsSeriously though, I wish I had like 10% of the gamble that Ted Forrest supposedly has. I'd probably make a lot more money. My question:How the hell can one survive a death match???? I can barely stay awake for 45 hours without doing anything that would tire my body or mind.
Ted has amazing drive and endurance. He is an incredibly determined individual. When you get to a certain limit in poker you need to cease an opportunity. If someone is willing to play with you for hours on end and they get tired.........your edge becomes huge if they don't quit.
How does Ted feel about internet players in cash games?
Some people who play online, esp high stakes are very good. Not a huge difference when they play live. Of course if they just play online they might have tells, etc. But if a person is playing high stakes online, they usually transition well.
in the larry game it is played in public but the big game is in a private room
Both games are at casinos. The Larry game is heavily guarded and roped off. You need to know someone to be there. Bobby's Room is kind of the same way. You can't just go into Bobby's Room unless you know someone. And interestingly enough.........you aren't supposed to sweat people in Bobby's Room unless you are a spouse, gf, etc.
I've heard Ted described before as extremely unothrodox, but I've never heard his play beyond that. The only even slightly detailed description of it was by this 2+2 guy at the 2007 wsop playing with him at the 6 handed event. It's no secret that Ted is a post flop player. He wants to try and play as many hands as possible because he feels that he can read his opponents quite well. In regard to that event, he might have been having an off day. I don't know.Ted is unorthodox because sometimes he will check when he should bet, raise when he should fold, etc. He will do things that just don't make sense to a lot of people. This is a very tough person to play against.Example: He was playing stud. I think he had split kings and raised. Someone else called. On 4th street the other guy clearly did not improve and Ted could/should have bet, but he checked. He checked the hand down until the other guy caught an open pair, and he then check called with the best hand. Just random stuff. Not sure how to explain here.

Love this thread Steve. Thanks for sharing some insight.I have a question for Ted; What profession would he be doing if there wasn't poker. This usually says alot about a person.
