White Sox for the win
Dude, I don't even like the Cubs that much. It's just a screen name that I made almost TWELVE years ago when I was in high school. You, others here, and about 328947239487 people on Pokerstars continue to self-own themselves by making Cubs jokes like I really, really like the team. I like the Bulls about 10x more than the Cubs, and the Bears about 5x as much. Go to the sports forum and see how much I talk in the Cubs thread, then go to basketball and see how much I talk about the Bulls. Come. Up. With. Something. New. Please.

ROFLThat is awesome, you were a Cubs fan in high school but years of frustration forced you to abandon ship. Can you say "bandwagon fan"?Way to "self-own" yourself :)They generated all that revenue since the 80's, yet cannot capitalize on it by putting a winning team on the field. I'll be honest; it is very hard to stop ripping on that team when they continuously find amusing ways to lose in the playoffs.-steve

You are so clueless in all aspects of sports and life, that I will refrain from even trying to assist you and instead hope that one day you get the special attention that you clearly so desparately need. And may God have mercy on your soul.

My brother got our IP banned from PS/FTP for begging players for money transfers, among other things. On PS my brother colluded microstakes SnGs. We were living in the same household at the time, so I was guilty by association. All of our accounts were closed, funds seized, and above all we're permabanned.Since I have no desire to play at any site other than PS or FTP... online poker is virtually out of the question for me.
New ISP imo!

I'm not playing online until my name is cleared... not that online poker is going to be around much longer anyway. And cubfan44, you are a troll. A typical, annoying cubs fan who can not win an arguement. I put you in your place by pointing out you "self-owned" yourself by admiting to be a bandwagon fan. Just like 3242342342 other clueless fair-weather fans.Do yourself a favor and just stop posting here. It is painfully obvious you are intellectually lacking. LoLz

This thread has kind of gotten out of hand imo. It's good that you see that your original plan was severely flawed. I really think you're underestimating the amount of $$ that you spend on a monthly basis. $500 for rent (inc utilities) is reasonable in Vegas if you're renting a room in someone's house. If you drive, you're spending $50/month on gas. Then there's car insurance. Phone bill. Food. Then I assume that you're probably not gonna sit at home every weekend night. You easily spend $100+ a month on random shit to entertain yourself and that's if you're responsible. The fact is that if you're going to rely on poker as your income, or even half of it, then you need a bankroll which extends past the point where you'd ever have to consider going busto for the limits you play, given normal variance. If you're a good winning player, you can still lose 4 or 5 buyins in a day if things don't go your way, especially with the crap that people do at 1/2. That means that you could conceivably lose $1000 in a day. A $2000 or even $3000 roll isn't enough to absorb a loss like that and come back the next day without worrying about how many buyins you have left.

Why should you not consider a 1/2 NL player a pro? Unless renting a room is a lifestyle you want to live, then that's why. What are you going to make above and beyond your bankroll? year 20-30K? If you play optimally and 5-7 days a week. You are going to be playing one table of drunks and tourists, plus some local retiree's. You will be lucky to see 30 hands an hour.vs. 1/2 online where you can see 400 hands an hour.I would surmise that 2-5 NL live is the lowest that anyone could sustain a living off live, and prob 10/20 Limit. And you are still a serious grinder at these limits.
I don't doubt that you can be a professional player at 1/2 live, but it's an unbelievably miserable life. You play live, sitting there for 8 hours a day and you realistically hope to take home a couple of hundred dollars. If you put in a lot of hours, maybe you'll have enough after 3 or 4 months to start taking shots at 2/5, but the fact is that you just can't really get that far ahead playing such low stakes and seeing so few hands.2/5 is completely different just because there are actually fewer locals in those games and therefore you can make $$ not only because the stakes are 2.5x higher, but also because the players aren't really any better and the player pool is possibly worse.__________________________________________TBH OP, you do come off as kind of an asshole in this thread. I know nothing about you so I'm making that statement based just on the replies you've posted here. chgocubs99 and cubsfan44 know what they're talking about. Getting into the whole "cubs suck" thing is just stupid. You start a thread presumably looking for advice and then you discount most things that most people say to you for whatever reason. If you want advice, take it, use it, whatever. If you don't want advice and aren't willing to let people make their own comments and voice their opinions to you, then don't start threads like this.

With all due respect (and I mean that as I've discussed hands with you in other threads), the members chgocubs99 and cubsfan44 didn't leave ANYTHING resembling constructive criticism in their posts. Really review their contributions to this thread. To clarify I ignored most of the joke/sarcastic responses that didn't have constructive criticism up until that point. Since I already had the information I wanted, I decided to bring up the cubs (something off-topic) since they really had no desire to post anything constructive in the first place. You're right about this topic, it should be closed already.Obviously my plan was flawed. 100+ a month? Try the weekend, as a conservative estimate. I'm better off working here and playing in local games to build funds. I do have some goals set for around March/April, and upon meeting them I'll move. Are there LHE games that I might consider? Maybe 5-10 limit with 400bbs? The thing is I really don't mind grinding for a while if I have to. I'd considering it getting my experience at an entry-level position.

They have 4-8 LHE and stuff like that, but a winrate at those games is less than at 1/2 NLHE and I don't know about you but LHE makes me wanna kill myself.Just save up a bit longer and then take your shot. You could obviously do it now, but I personally think it's really bad business.

Yes and Yes. LOLTell me about 2-5 NL. How does the play differ from 1-2? What are the biggest adjustments I should make (assuming I'm properly rolled )?

I don't play 2/5 a ton. I just know that most of the time, the 1/2 games have the old retired local guys playing in them and in most 2/5 games, their spots are taken by more tourists. So overall the games are just as bad most of the time, but for higher stakes.

Really?I would think that vegas would be saturated with local grinders at the 2/5 level. People with a little bit of skill (not a lot of skill, but enough to make the games less profitable) who moved to Vegas to take their shot. Also, NL is more boring than LHE.

Players at 2/5 think they're good. A few of them are right. It's more aggressive than 1/2, but often nonsensically so.

I hear the 2-5 at the Stardust is a real easy game but I guess its pretty hard to find anymore.
ROFL7/10 not badSo basically the loose-passive play in 1-2 is replaced with a mix of some decent players /super-aggro donks at 2-5?

Did you really just say that online poker isn't going to be around much longer? What are you smoking? And making fun of another person's name online is simply childish. You better stay home with your parents, you will be eaten alive living on your own.

Bush passed a little something, and the recent scandals do not help. Read his previous posts - he had no desire to provide ANY advice to my questions. When he did bother to respond something I posted, it was basically just flaming me for typing "meh" in a response to Acid_Knight. I already explained myself in my response to Acid, read it.FWIW, Cub fans are much worse than that.. until the cubs reach the playoffs. Being from Chicago I know this. :club: Lets close this thread. It has run its course.
