No one ever contended that we now shut up forever about it.But now that we have gotten to this point in history it's not going to be as easy for the finger pointers and quick to judgers anymore.Talking about it openly is a good thing, even if it involves sometimes ignorant and racist sounding rhetoric.Bringing all this forward is the only way to get past it. Obama is a first just like Jackie Robinson was a first etc. And everyone is going to talk about a first no matter what. He's the first African American President. He broke through a barrier that had been in place a long time. There will be more African American presidents. Just like now there will probably be a hispanic president, or an asian president in our future. We don't think anything about there being African Americans on baseball teams anymore. Once Jackie Robinson broke that barrier then it was no longer an issue. But at the time, it was big news. And at this time, this is big news. Because it's the first. So talking about race in regard to it, isn't that surprising nor is it necessarily racist.

I grew up in Detroit.Avoided many confrontations as a kid, called cracka!, etc.I also had many friends of all races, many black. OUr family was heavily involved for many years with Focus Hope, right after the riots in the late 60's. I've seen a lot of shit. There is no such thing. Racism is racism.Unless you consider reverse racism not racism at all, then that may be an acceptable answer.But it also depends on if its opposite day. So many variables, we may never know.

i had "what is referred to has reverse racism" and deleted it for clarity's sake.scott, when it comes to solving a problem, the first question to ask is why the problem exists. i'm going to argue that most instances of "reverse racism" or "racism against whites" or whatever has a whole lot to do with non-whites getting ****ed over year after year, decade after decade, etc.there are also lots of books on the origins of blacks referring to themselves by the term "nigga" or whatever. i haven't read them, but i've been told by smart people that they're interesting. i believe the most famous one is called "the n word," if you're interested.i actually think that obama's presidency has the power to end the need for racially-based affirmative action, although i agree with obama when he argues for a socioeconomically-based form of it. the existence of a role model for african americans in a previously exclusively white male position will undoubtedly have effects that we won't be able to really see in practical terms for a decade at least. i personally believe that it may have the power to make great strides in ending racism in almost all of its forms, but to suggest that such a goal doesn't even exist anymore because we've already achieved it is silly, and you're more than a little naive if you're suggesting that whites have it worse than blacks on the racism front currently.

LOL I almost went out on Tuesday to go take pictures and watch the cops beat people. I think based on those pictures I'm pretty glad I didn't go. There are all races in those crowds, I saw 20T40's post as saying that she only saw black people celebrating, no white celebrations. Those photos and more show that Obama supporters of all races were celebrating.And I think that most older folk if they weren't in Grant Park or near a college were celebrating at home with friends/family. I could go on youtube and pull those videos if you want?Or are you looking for thousands of only older white people celebrating in public in the streets in a non-college town? What would that prove?
