i also don't think that whitey gets to decide when racism is over. js.
LOL. I was trying to think of something to say about all this race talk. I think you hit the nail on the head though.Fifty years ago blacks in the south couldn't vote, go to public parks, use public drinking fountains, eat in certain restaurants, attend good public schools, marry look at a white girl, and sure as hell didn't have a prayer at the presidency. Also they had little to no protection from Those In Charge. Think about what it's like when you can't call the police cuz they won't come, or cuz they're already there attacking you with clubs. To imagine that all those emotions of anger and resentment and guilt and hatred and sadness and everything else, on BOTH SIDES, would simply disappear in one or two generations is nuts.

Yes, this is horrible, this post.

Turns out I'd do, what I've always done, cash farm subsidy checks and compulsively masturbate.

The majority didn't vote against him. The majority stayed home.   The GOP candidate had less votes in 2016 than in 2012 or 2008, when they lost both times.   Dems (and repubs) just HATED Hillar

are you suggesting that certain demographics matter more than others? it kinda seems that way.i'm white, not a college kid, and celebrated.my parents are white, not college kids, and celebrated.my aunts, uncles, and grandparents are white, not college kids (some of them not college-educated), and celebrated.
I thought my post was pretty clear... obviously not.college kids = don't matterany woman = doesn't matterblack people = scaryany white man = very important

LOL I almost went out on Tuesday to go take pictures and watch the cops beat people. I think based on those pictures I'm pretty glad I didn't go. That scene is less than a mile from my apt in Brooklyn.Despite being a hardcore lefty pinko liberal commie, I kind of hate everybody in every one of those pictures.EDIT: Somebody in the comments on that link summed it up well: "My hatred of these Williamsburg douchebags is rivaled only by my love of President Obama. Hmm... that feels good to type. President Obama."
it's ok.. those people are hipsters... I had a laugh at the dude holding up his fixed gear in celebration...

There are all races in those crowds, I saw 20T40's post as saying that she only saw black people celebrating, no white celebrations. Those photos and more show that Obama supporters of all races were celebrating. And I think that most older folk if they weren't in Grant Park or near a college were celebrating at home with friends/family. I could go on youtube and pull those videos if you want?Or are you looking for thousands of only older white people celebrating in public in the streets in a non-college town? What would that prove?
One turd in a box of chocolates ruins the whole box.note: It's just bad luck that this amazing Americana saying deals with 'chocolates' and we are talking about black people. That is unintentional. That's not the part of this sentence that I'm trying to make fun of black people with.

in terms of my own opinion (which i don't think matters for shit relative to that of any african american regarding racism), i don't think that we can talk about racism being over until no one alive had to experience anything like pre-civil rights america. time may indeed heal all wounds, but i don't think that anyone should have to remember being a second class citizen at any point in their lifetime.but maybe i'm just a ****ing hippie. who knows?

Christian policy is about hatred for man, hatred for Reason, control of behavior for the express purpose of accumulating power, and propagating the expression of fantasy as a substitute for reality. And I am definitely NOT advocating UNITING behind a President who plans to destroy the principles of the Founding Fathers by trashing Freedom in favor of collectivist statist economic slavery. Obama is going to crash, burn, and explode and I will do whatever I can to hasten the public's understanding of his Leftist programs as they begin to crystallize. He is going down hard in my estimation and the American people deserve the economic spanking they are about to endure at the hands of such an awful selection. However, there is a silver lining in every cloud. Hence my enjoyment at the fake, phony, fraudulent, Christian Conservative movement and it's band of powerlusting Preachers who constantly quote their QVC buyers manual for the soul (The Bible) in an effort to suppress successful existence in the only realm in which any of us will ever exist.
you're stupid in so many ways. in which way does your hate differ from theirs? you're just as extremist as they are.

Obama is a first just like Jackie Robinson was a first etc. And everyone is going to talk about a first no matter what. He's the first African American President. He broke through a barrier that had been in place a long time. There will be more African American presidents. Just like now there will probably be a hispanic president, or an asian president in our future. We don't think anything about there being African Americans on baseball teams anymore. Once Jackie Robinson broke that barrier then it was no longer an issue. But at the time, it was big news. And at this time, this is big news. Because it's the first. So talking about race in regard to it, isn't that surprising nor is it necessarily racist.
Except Jackie Robinson actually did it himself against heavy, heavy pressure from everyone. Obama was handed this by a MSM that wanted to make history, nothing more, nothing less. There is no real victory in this, and the proof is in the reaction afterward- this was about race all along, which we have said time and time again, which is fine. I was just honest about it. Without the MSM's help there is no way in hell he could have ever been elected on his own merits.

Obama got I believe 44% of the total white vote. This election does not prove or disprove that we are a racist nation. Definetely less racist than in the past but not free and clear and we never will be. Yeah I wonder why, just think if your were part of a group that made up 14% of the population of a country, just 143 years ago people that looked like you were still slaves. And you had a chance to vote for someone that looks like you that actually had a chance to win.Yeah you don't seem racist at all.
Ummm...my point exactly?

your delusion knows no bounds. nothing more pathetic than the "im just the only one whos honest about it" rationalization for your blatant racism. and everything else you are trying to say in this post is pretty pathetic too, and flat out wrong. get a grip.

Earlier I was just talking about black people and how they cause all the problems. (sigh)Also yes, on the bolded part. There will always be ethnocentrism. No racism at all on Earth is just a pipe dream, because their will always be stupid people. We can't get rid of stupid people, so we can't get rid of racism. There is no reason we can't keep hoping it happens though.

ok I shall try again. Do you really think that just because 51% of americans voted a black president that this changes whether or not America is a racist nation?
1) Nations are not humans, and assigning human qualities to them is silly.2) There are still racists in this country, but they are extremely marginalized.3) Racism can no longer be used an excuse for not achieving success, since the top position is now filled by someone from the race that is most frequently discriminated against.

First, I wish people would stop using the phrase "racist nation". Nations can't be racist, because nations aren't people. Individual citizens within a nation can be racist, but it is not a characteristic a nation can have.Second, do you have some statistics that show that, on average, US citizens are any more racist than any other country in the world? It appears to me that the opportunities for advancement for those who are unlike the majority population is greater here than anywhere else. This is one where, unless you can provide data, I'm calling BS.

True, for Christ's sake even Spike Lee said last night, that "this could only happen in America"

You seem confused.
He is anything but confused (crazy perhaps?). He thinks Obama is a socialist and that his policies will be disastrous. But, he is enjoying watching the Christian right get their tails spanked and bitch and moan. So, me and neretva, agree on something.

Well, if the high ruler of black people has spoken then that settles that.

It's a sign that race is not an issue any more
Those racist blacks, how dare they say such a thing!
Well, if it wasn't an issue, why the hell is it being mentioned at EVERY opportunity, and taking up about 75% of the post-election news? If it genuinely wasn't an issue it simply wouldn't be mentioned at all!Isn't this just a very basic contradiction?I'd love it if race wasn't an issue at all, but it just seems like we're deluding ourselves slightly, as it clearly still is... from what I've seen today anyway.
It's an interesting question. I was trying to explain it to my son last night. I explained to him that, in Obama's lifetime, blacks were not allowed to attend the same school as whites. There were protests to try to keep blacks in their place. And there always seemed to be some institutional impediment to progress. I personally believe that most of those impediments were self-imposed -- after all, the Chinese faced similar degrees of racism when they first started coming here, and they succeeded anyway. At any rate, the cumulative effect of slavery, the Jim Crow laws, the uneven enforcement of laws between blacks and whites -- these things took their toll on the black community. So to have the final symbolic barrier removed, that's a great thing. It didn't remove any barriers for us white folk. So is it about race? Certainly a big part of his victory is the symbolism of removing that last obstacle. From a practical, legislative point is it about race? I certainly hope not.
