I've had that link in my signature for awhile, and I feel like it should be discussed, as long as we're slinging mud over every little thing. We have like a 5 page thread on Obama's citizenship, how about a discussion of McCain's racism? Note the date as well - it's not decades old.So, yes he was talking about his captors/torturers, but that doesn't change the fact that it's extremely racist. For example: had the war been in Africa somewhere and McCain had said "I hate the niggers, I will hate them as long as I live," he would never be running for president because that quote would have ended his political career. So where's the outrage over a presidential candidate who not only throws around racial slurs, but refuses to apologize for it?! "Gook" is a term of war, and has been used by American soldiers to describe Phillipinos, Japanese, Chinese, Koreans, and finally the Vietnamese. 'The only good gook is a dead gook' was a saying in Vietnam. Please don't think I'm trying to denigrate his military service or the awful imprisonment he endured, but it doesn't give him a free pass to be racist by any means. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?.../18/MN32194.DTL

This right here is the difference.
No it's not. Just because it was a term of war doesn't mean it isn't still a racial slur. Have you never heard anybody except a veteran call somebody a gook???? It's a term used the same way as fag or nigger or spic or kike. The fact that it came into existence during wars against Asians is immaterial to the abuse and offense that you can cause people by using that word.

So it's ok to use a racial slur as long as you're a veteran who used it in a war? That is ridiculous.Racism of any kind is wrong. There is no justification. Those Asian soldiers who McCain dealt with are no different from American soldiers. They all kept prisoners of war, they all fought and tried to kill the other side, it was a war and they were defending their country. It was nothing to do with their race, or their nature as people. If he wants to say that his captors personally treated him badly, then fair enough he can say they were bastards or assholes or whatever. Racial slurs are not necessary, nor appropriate. To have a president who refers to people as "gooks" would be an embarrassment for the US.

I was referring to the Asians in my local limit hold 'em card game, and I will continue to refer to them in language that might offend some people because of the money they have cost me and my friends. I hate those gooks, and I will hate them as long as I live.

"I've been called gook a good number of times during my life - gook, v.c., charlie, commie, jap, chink, whatever. And it's usually when one or more people want to physically assault me." - Irwin Tang, author of Gook: John McCain's Racism And Why It Matters

While I agree that McCain use of Gook is awful unless the guy has sucked out on you with a 2 outer on the river for his whole stack... I will say that at least he is open enough to tell you why he says it.from the article: The Arizona senator prides himself on running an open campaign. He is surrounded by reporters, television cameras and tape recorders perhaps more than any presidential candidate in history. Reporters are given full access to the candidate between each campaign stop on a customized bus purposefully dubbed the "Straight Talk Express." Alhtough his comments are dispicable, This is a response you wont get from Barack ObamaIn a campaign appearance earlier this month, Sen. Obama said, "I don't think my church is actually particularly controversial." He said Rev. Wright "is like an old uncle who says things I don't always agree with," telling a Jewish group that everyone has someone like that in their family. Rev. Wright married Obama and his wife Michelle, baptized their two daughters and is credited by Obama for the title of his book, "The Audacity of Hope." An ABC News review of dozens of Rev. Wright's sermons, offered for sale by the church, found repeated denunciations of the U.S. based on what he described as his reading of the Gospels and the treatment of black Americans. "The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing 'God Bless America.' No, no, no, God damn America, that's in the Bible for killing innocent people," he said in a 2003 sermon. "God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme." In addition to damning America, he told his congregation on the Sunday after Sept. 11, 2001 that the United States had brought on al Qaeda's attacks because of its own terrorism. "We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye," Rev. Wright said in a sermon on Sept. 16, 2001. "We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America's chickens are coming home to roost," he told his congregation. This is a church that also preaches black liberation theology.. not controversial at all...Statement from Obama:The statements that Rev. Wright made that are the cause of this controversy were not statements I personally heard him preach while I sat in the pews of Trinity or heard him utter in private conversation.See this is the problem, there is NO way he could be a part of the church and be in the council of Wright and not know what the pastor was stating and was all about... There is no straight talk with ObamaAnd most people have bought it hook line & sinker

So McCain makes a rasict comment ad you pull out the but Obama went to a Church and the Rev blah blah blah. The fact is articles like this distort Rev Wrights sermons and purposely leave out much information that shows the sermons to be more anti-government then anything else. I find it sad that you can't acknowledge the ignorance of McCains comment without making it out to be about Obama.

What response??? His response was that he would continue to use that word. I don't see how tossing in Wright quotes addresses the issue of McCain's racism. I mean really, you think it's the same thing to say things from your own mouth as it is to listen to somebody give a sermon? If you want to talk about Obama and Jeremiah Wright, there are other threads filled with it. But it's irrelevant to this discussion.I mean, you got sarcastically made fun of before you even posted that. Really.
but....but....but....but....but......JEREMIAH WRIGHT!!!

Yeah. Genius maneuver. Play gooks at LHE... Let's step into the most uncreative, Spock'ish game there is and play gooks- the most uncreative, Spock'ish people there are- rather than playing them @ white mans big bet games where their habitual bluffing will always lead to one catastrophic error thus allowing us to totally ring their fucking gong and drag their entire stack.

You clearly dont get it....The Wright example simply shows you that you cant Get BHO to admit anything... He just denies denies denies and you guys lap it up...You would have to have to be very naive to think he never heard or didnt hear those things...McCain when confronted admits it and tries to give context... but doesnt denyYou cant pin Obama down on anything

True, but that doesn't change the fact that challenging them to the eel-eating-and-dancing-dragon contest that is LHE is a disadvantage to the races who were blessed with a functional right brain.

The Vietnamese that I play against don't have as strong of mathematical grasp of the game as their racial profile would suggest.
