Question on the provisions in the bail out and the mortgage bail out mccain proposed...I own a house in phoenix...Bought it in 2005.. Paid it off completely... We have rentersGuess what.. it probably isnt worth what I paid for it...Does the government then bail me out because I am 30K underwater? That is what they are essentially saying...So I am penalized for not having a mortgage,,,, Where is the personal responsibilityyour thoughts?
There are probably circumstances where an adjustment to principal is appropriate but its so hard to administer fairly it would be a massive fail. Part of the Countrywide settlement includes an ability to reduce principal...it will be interesting to see how that goes.

How bout those of us that never had the chance to buy a house but are still struggling?Perhaps I live to far off of Main Street??
If you weren't able to buy a house during the years of 2002-2006, you were either under 18 years old or absolutely retarded.During those times, a homeless man could stumble in off the street stinking of Boones Farm with lice hopping off his beard and onto the app form and walk out with a 100% loan, without verifying anything.

The Straight Talk Express is officially on life support.
It died once he got the nomination. The straight talk express was the one thing I thought gave him a chance to win. He hasn't behaved any differently than any other politican, in fact, the only way in which he has distinguished himself has been by how ineffective he has been at getting out his message. Is he really any better than Bob Dole?

Im not asking for help in buying a home. That was not my point. My point was there are those of us that are still struggling to get by despite staying away from bad mortgages and the like. It just bugs me when people that didn't have the foresight to not get themselves behind the 8 ball are getting bailed out. When people that are working had to pay there bills and get ahead just have to keep on keepin on.

McCain's numbers have been in steady decline since the last debate. There's no reason the events of tonight should cause any reversal of that trend.

and considerning McCain was supposed to be a town hall guru this has to be considered a disappointment and he is running out of time to turn this thing around.
It wasnt even close to a "town hall" debate. It was a Brokaw interview where he found the questions he wanted to ask and let the audience ask them, and as pointed out, not much more than an instant replay than the first debate. Stools != town hall.

Obama did exactly what he needed to do in this debate. McCain looked flustered, almost panting really, and seemed out of sorts while Obama remained calm and I do believe that his answers were more spot on, of course, agreeing with his positions effect my opinion, obv. I don't feel like the McCain camp has any real gaffes or solid ads they can take from this debate based on what Obama said in the debate. There is the 95% lie that the Obama camp used again as well as the exaggeration of the surplus in Iraq, but both are just exaggerations and half truths. He said they have a 79 billion dollar surplus, I think it's like 59. He said 95% of Americans, more like 81% of Americans and 95% of households. This was a rather boring debate where both regurgitated past talking points. Obama has a chip lead and that is exactly the kind of debate you want to have when you are in the lead. No need to gamble, no need to change course, the onus to change tactics is on McCain and he did nothing tonight that suggested any impact on voters. McCain's best hope now is seriously to just go balls out and claim that Obama is a Muslim and a Muslim sympathizer. It's a bunch of BS but that doesn't matter. A character assassination is his only chance. He hasn't done well enough in debates to shake Obama down and make him look like he is a dangerous choice.
Thing is - I don't think this is McCain. He wants to play with some honor. If that means losing honorably, then he'll do that. Regardless of some Dogmatic claims to the contrary, he hasn't resorted to any dirty tricks. He has given it a good shot without crossing those lines. He isn't going to do the equivalent of angle shooting just to win the head's-up portion of this Tournament.

Which is why the housing market and foreclousers are such a problem. I had no desire to get behind a mortgage. I am sure I probably could have but that wasn't an option I was ready for. A little personal accountability FTW!

Watching the CNN aftershow. Don't know if their polls are rigged or not, but if they are accurate, McCain is toast.I really liked the "We will kill Bin Laden" line an awful lot, plus the fact that he would put more troops in Afghanistan. We are losing a lot of good young Canucks over there each week and could certainly use some more US Force in the area. Thought the "that one" reference was absolutely retarded. That can be taken so many ways. Bad Bad move.I wish the Republicans had better candidates - I am all for their tax policies and not jumping on the global warming bandwagon so badly, but quite frankly, if I lived in the US, I think I would vote for Obama. And I am voting for the Conservative (read Canadian Republican equivalent) Harper in the Canadian election - go figure!I think this one is over folks.........

The Government (aka the rest of us) need to do a better job of paying the price for your lack of foresight?Actions have consequences.Personal Responsibility FTW.

I've never been more impressed with Obama as I was tonight. What I saw tonight, unlike the last debate or the Biden/Palin debate was an absolute crushing in Obama's favor. I honestly think he destroyed him across the board. On every question I felt that Obama was strong. Just my opinion of course, I'm sure others may think that McCain won and they have that right. As for me, I was very proud of Obama tonight and think this was a solid step towards nailing down the presidency. Very happy with what I heard and saw...
Amazing.........no one was crushed, all I seen was two weak Candidates. You have no worries.........McCain lost the election when he voted for the bailout.

We agree on that.Still, it was in response to your claim that you 'couldn't buy a house'.During those times, there was essentially a hose of money being sprayed at anyone who was willing to put on a bathing suit. If you can afford to pay rent, you can afford to make a mortgage. The reason why so many mortgages are failing is because the sort of people who CAN'T regularly make rent- instead choosing to spend their money on gold spinners and new Lincoln Navigator payments- were given loans. If the reason you couldn't afford a house during times of free money is because you're in this caste, it's a "you problem".Also, consider that real estate prices were grossly overinflated. That isn't a you or me problem, that was a market inefficiency.

Or 8Just like 41 did in 92 because he wouldn't do what needed to be done to win.Just a good thing Clinton was so ineffective in doing anything he had planned to do.

So you agree with me then that his only real chance is to get dirty and avoid discussing the issues?
DN, please read your PM. I know I am going to lose, but I want the 2 questions I asked about the wager figured out...just in case I should win (which I wont)
