We are about a month away from the Election and I keep hearing about the Swing and Undecided Voters. The Polls keep moving back and forth with Obama holding the current momentum, but McCain was in a similar position just a week or two ago. What actually causes these shifts? Are people REALLY being influenced by the Debates and other individual events? I'll go on the record and say I would never have considered any of the Democrat options for President. In past elections I have flirted with Third Parties, but this year, Ron Paul just never really caught my attention. I am considering voting for any non-incumbent regardless of Party in protest of the Bail-Out bill and several other specific votes here in Michigan.I just eavesdropped on a conversation between a couple of folks here at work - one guy was claiming to be leaning towards Obama and a woman was "still trying to decide". Their reasons for their positions and knowledge of the issues were weak.I just can't understand how anyone can claim to be Undecided or switch their vote for President at this stage of the Game. What information can possibly cause you to suddenly change or make-up your mind? Are you waiting for some new key information? I just don't understand how someone's ideology and overall view of the issues is so fragile as to be swayed by a single incident.

I am undecided about whether to go and cast a protest vote in every race that has a third or fourth party, or whether to just stay home and say I'm not playing your stupid rigged game.

Please vote for Nader, that way if the dems lose they can all blame Nader for getting 4,201 votes and giving the election to the republicans and then they will ignore the real reasons and continue to run bad campaigns in presidential elections

I've never seriously considered McCain so I'm pretty much in H's boat though I do lean Obama. Only decision I have now is whether I want to vote against Cousin Max in the Senatorial race because he voted for and HELPED WRITE the freakin' bailout bill.

Usually my ideals go more along the lines of Democrats, however to name myself a democrat is rediculous because there are also a few ideals the republicans have that I am in line with. There really needs to be a strong third party that can represent those of us who are not 100% Repub or 100% dem. Too bad it has broken down into a two horse race for every election now. If I felt that voting for a strong third party would actually do something, then I would definitely go that route. However, as with anything it is tough to tell the lies of each party from the truth of what they will actually do once they get to office. I personally like Obama's take on dealing with Foreign Affairs but I hate his "Economic Plan" for America. For me it comes down to voting for the best of two evils. However, I am in California so my vote doesn't really count anyway since we are usually as blue as a smurf. So maybe I will vote for the green party this year. Short Answer: Yes I am still undecided.

I am still waiting to see if DN is willing to buy my vote, so there is that.
I get the feeling that DN doesn't like you.

That may be. That being said, he's leans Democrat, and they are all about being bought, so he should know how this works. Now, I am willing and able to do this for him, vote for him, I will take pictures in the booth and everything, then post vids on Youtube with "I voted Obama in 08 for Daniel Negreaunu and all I got was x amount of dollars" painted on my chest. It would be pretty funny.

If someone is buying votes, mine could probably be purchased, too. And rumor has it that MN is even a battleground state this year, so it might make a difference. I'd probably need at least $100 to vote for McCain, and $200 for Obama, since Obama will cost me much more if he's elected.

I would have no problem voting for a good moderate democrat... but that clearly isnt an option this year...The sad part is that the majority of americans do not take the time to research the issues to see who they agree with. We here are among the minority. The average american gets their view from a clip on the news (which is why we rail against the liberal msm)

My inherent problem with the "rail against the media" approach......it lets the average american (who struggles with "is that your ass.....or a hole in the ground?) off the hook for being so useless. If people did not gobble that crap up, the msm would change. We live in an US Weekly culture. I blame MTV (and those damn kids on my lawn!)

Here's my take: people in this forum are very interested in politics and that's simply not true of your average American. They don't follow the election and the issues religiously, they get their information through word of mouth, the media, or Matt Damon :-) I think a lot of people that are undecided are waiting to see if Obama cheated on his wife or is working with Bin Lden to take over the world. If Palin is guilty of firing the officer improperly, or McCain is pimping for the oil companies. A lot of people don't know anything at all about the issues and will ultimately vote for the person they like better. The hockey moms who identify with Palin will vote for McCain, and younger voters will vote for Obama because they think, "he's cool."

Im still undecided and I am a registered Republican...always have been. I choose not to partake in any of the politcial threads because I believe in the "dont discuss politics or religion" saying. I do read EVERY post in this forum pertaining to the election and I have found it to be very informative. I am also quite shocked at the knowledge of politics from our FCP family both Democratic and Republican. I am pretty knowledgable when it comes to the Obama & McCain and being able to see how everyone on FCP feels about each candidate and their positions without malice is quite refreshing. Kudos FCP.

Ron Paul is a Republican and ran as a Republican. He was only a 3rd party candidate in 1988.I'll be honest and say that I'm not sure what I'm going to do as far as the Presidential vote, but it honestly won't matter... I live in California. As for all of my other votes, I'm going straight Libertarian or 3rd party just for the hell of it. If I can support some statistic that shows a growing interest in 3rd parties, then my vote feels like it will be worth it.If you live in OH, PA, MI, FL, or other close states... then go have a ball. The rest of us can just sit back and watch to see what you guys choose.Oh, and to go along with HBlask. All of my votes are 100% up for sale in Kern County ... Bakersfield, CA. :club:

This is the most sensible post you have made regarding politics in quite a while.
