I'm heading out to L.A. next week, and I'd like to play a bit of poker. I've never played at a club before, and I'd like any recommendations anyone has. Certainly, I'd like to stick to the lowest limits possible my first time out. I play mostly limit, but I'd be up for some NL as well. Any advice anyone has would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you're looking for a good limit game, try the Hustler Casino in Gardena. Nice set up, only one blind, and look for Mercy, the cocktail waitress. She's definitely easy on the eyes. Good luck!Edit: You can't say c--tail?

I'd go with commerce. Commerce is the biggest cardroom in the world (i think) and it is a really cool place to be on a busy night. One of the few places where you can find full tables of every limit at any hour of the day...great for all nighters! The place is full of Poker cosmic energy!!!Also, if you get hungry while you play, try the Beef Galbi (Korean Barbeque)...so freakin' good.

I'd recommend hustler(1 blind), commerce, or bicycle casino. Hawaiian Gardens is decent as well but depending on where in LA you're staying it's a bit out of the way. I believe the bike and commerce offer a couple of cheap($25) daily NL tournaments which can be pretty fun, just watch out for the re-buy madness. If you happen to make the money, payouts can get pretty big because there are so many re-buys, I've seen prize pools over $20k for 250 entrants.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I'll be staying in downtown LA, near the convention center. It sounds like Hustler and Commerce seem to be popular choices. Anyone else have input?I really do appreciate all the feedback. :-)

2/4 hold 'em at the commerce casino. get there before 7:30 on weekends or else the waiting list gets long. you can buy in pretty comfortably for $100. if you go on monday-thursday they have double jackpots from 9:00 to 10:00 pm.oh, and if you're a hot 22 year old blond (girl of course) and want a date let me know. i'll gladly show you around town. or if you're some guy who's bringing his girlfriend to the casino, i'll take care of her while you get down to some cards.xTBONEx

Ok being that my name is LA Poker, I feel obligated to assist here. Although it is a bit out of the way I would go to one of the Indian Casinos Morongo or Pechenga. People seem to have no clue how to actualy play poker at these casinos, so you should do alright.

If you're driving then be sure to valet at either Commerce or the Bike. Parking is a female dog on weekend nights.
Not safe to walk to your car anyway. You should always valet at card clubs. If you are a big winner you don't want to walk out to the back corner of the parking lot. By the way if you decide to play Holywood Park make sure that you are packing heat, and plan on playing against the homeless.

That's why it's always good to play there the first few days of the month. You can tables full of players with fresh wellfare/unemployment/food stamp/alimony/childsupport/disability money in their pockets. Stay away at the end of the month. Tight players grinding until their next deposit. LOL

I just moved out closer to Pechenga and started playing there, you aren't kidding when you say people have no clue how to play! I guess some people just enjoy giving their money away, I certainly enjoy taking it!

As someone who has played there: very well put. OP should stick to Bike or Commerce.

When you talk about pechanga, your talking about cash games right? i play in the $25 tournaments all the time. Dont see that many bad playes cause they get all knocked out. If the cash games are just as bad ill start playing them.

The $25 tournaments are a waste of time, you might as well go downstairs and play $25 worth of slots. The blinds increase so quickly that you have no chance unless you get cards immidiately. The payout structure is also horrid. My buddy came in 11th one night in a $75 tourney, and got $150 back. I heard that they even kept the same structure when they had the $540 tournement. I don't know if I will ever go back, due to the fact that I mostly play tournements, but if I did go back it would be to play against those WPT watching limit players.
