Official Palin/biden Debate Thread

Recommended Posts

sigh all you like cane, but he is a true socialist, and he doesn't like capitalism. So there are some very fundamental things about this country he doesn't like.
By that logic, there are lots of things that Republicans dont like about America either. (welfare programs being a nice example that have been around for a longgggg time)Sorry, not buying this. And while I dont think Obama is a socialist or hates capitalism.....disliking certain aspects of your country does not mean you do not like your country. At all.

Palin: But there are real changes going on in our climate. And I don't want to argue about the causes. What I want to argue about is, how are we going to get there to positively affect the impacts? Biden: If you don't understand what the cause is, it's virtually impossible to come up with a solution. lol
I have a better one.Biden: Number two, with regard to bankruptcy now, Gwen, what we should be doing now -- and Barack Obama and I support it -- we should be allowing bankruptcy courts to be able to re-adjust not just the interest rate you're paying on your mortgage to be able to stay in your home, but be able to adjust the principal that you owe, the principal that you owe.Brilliant LOL

I like Chuck Hagel. I really really do. I wish Obama had picked him for VP. I was being a bit facetious about Ron Paul....he is a bit out there even for me. I just could not think of another GOP member I really liked. Susan Collins of Maine is good. Any really good GOP governors out there (not including Palin)?I never pretended for a moment that ticket could win....and you know as well as I that Ron Paul on any ticket would get some votes. Lots of people really like him. He raised a ton of cash in Florida.
That was my point?

Well, it wasn't me but I am laying 3/2 odds that the black guy wins... It's not over, but Obama is the favorite and I'd be happy to lay a price on him winning. No takers at all? Seriously? We can discuss this all we want guys, and we will, but get used to the idea that Obama is going to win. If you don't like that idea much, London is great except for the weather, Canada is... no, you'd never go there... you could try Italy? Great pasta and cheap wine :-)
Why would we leave? This is the only real non-socialist republic left in the world. We have to be there with our votes in 4 years to reverse all of the decisions made by Obama. I WANT to live in America, not Finland or China.

Wow. I just waded through nine pages of this discussion, good stuff. Trolls will be trolls, I'm glad they get mostly ignored.I'm proud of FCP tonight, this is the first thread that I can think of this type that has stayed mostly on topic, and everyone has played nice, despite our obvious differences. Hopefully more of the threads in this forum carry on like this one.One note to anyone who thinks pronouncing it NUCULAR is incorrect or stupid. That pronunciation is well accepted within that community, and anyone who points it out as being stupid is the moron. See, Cop's right a lot sometimes. ;)40 posts per page ftw

Expectations for Biden going in were rather high and expectations for Palin were extremely low. I think both exceeded expectations in a big way and the debate camp really helped her avoid any major blunders which was a must for the GOP. I got a different read then some, feeling like she started better than Biden did, but that Biden did well when the discussion switched to foreign policy. Her comments on foreign policy seemed memorized and robotic (most of jher answers did) but Biden was more confident in that section and seemed to be more knowledgeable about the issue. I feel like Biden answered more of the questions. Both talked about the same amount of time, but Biden actually answered more of the questions directly. One glaring example was the question on what would be your biggest crutch as a VP. Biden answered that question talking about his stubbornness, but Palin didn't mention even one thing about herself that she felt was a crutch. Instead she talked about her resume. Good politics for Palin, but not answering the questions asked was a theme for the evening. Biden rambled a bit, but one thing I was happy to see was that he was very careful to show her a great deal of respect and was never condescending towards her. In fact, he actually used compliments to her in his attacks on McCain, saying something like, "I respect what you are doing in Alaska, that's what Obama and I want to do for the country. But McCain doesn't want what you want.." The gay marriage thing. Wow, that was odd for me. She appeared to be agreeing with Biden on the issue and that surprised me. In the end, I think Biden won, but not by as large a margin as predicted He answered more questions and would explain what the campaign would like to do with the economy, foreign affairs, etc. Palin didn't supply content in that sense. On several occasions she would answer a question but offer no plan. I predicted it would be pretty lame in comparison to the hype, and I was right on. Little happened, outside of Palin doing a good job of making Republicans feel more comfortable with her on the ticket, which I think is a big deal in terms of perception, but ultimately won't do much in terms of winning the election. Obama is winning at this point and I don't think this debate will have an effect on that either way. The McCain camp needs another game changer and this debate wasn't it. This debate really puts an end to the importance of the VP candidates for the most part, and now it's time for the two main men to go at it. Obama is in a commanding position, a big favorite to be the next president, and at this point all the campaign needs to do is tread water and make no major mistakes. The McCain camp needs to continue to gamble up and try to get back into it. While this debate HAS to be considered a moral victory for Palin, I'm definitely going to bet a lot of money on Obama being the next president. I'd lay 3/2 if anyone wants to gamble :-) Biden wins debate. Palin gets moral victory and exceeds expectations. That's my two cents.
umm....huh.Man, I really can't argue too much here. Biden seriously stretched the truth and outright lied on some key points, and Palin ducked a little too often, and even though I thought it was a wash I still think Palin gets the nod, mainly because she didn't totally screw the pooch. Will it mean anything? Maybe in the short term, but come election day all of this will be long forgotten and go back to the economy and the war ultimately.I agree that McCain needs to release some sort of base exciting secret weapon, and soon. The election will be closer than most folks think, but if it were held today, yes, you are right, the band would be playing "HAIL TO THE BLACK GUY" lol.As far as your 2 cents, will that be American or Loonies?

I think you're serious here (no insult meant here, I can just never tell a joke/level so I'm paranoid), so I'll answer- No. It would mean you get $300 if you win. He puts up 3(00) to your 2 (00) hence 3/2 odds. Just like poker pot odds.

the only reason I was interested in her mis-pronunciation is because of the thought that her handlers almost certainly noticed it in her rehearsals, but went with it anyway. hey, it worked with bush...

Haven't seen the debate yet. The repeat should be coming soon. But the CNN Europe report has been pretty sad in their reporting of it.Sound clips of Biden saying McCain would not meet with Spain's leaders. Yea, right, McCain is not going to meat with them. Typical reporters and the desire to influence the public instead of slamming politicians for lying to them. Then CNN read 4 emails, 3 were pure slams on Palin, 1 supportive, but from a teenager style writer. CNN is unable to be fair, even when they have an ocean between them and Ted Fonda.Vienna is amazing, hugely impressive. Had a great meal last night and spending the day exploring. Our hotel is near the Opera House on the Ringstrasse.Funny how much more comfortable I am with the language here than I was with the Slavic Czech. I couldn't even learn to say hello, or thank you in Czech.Anyway, Biden lied about the coal thing in the CNN sound clip, I'm sure the right will Youtube his talking aobut Obama being against coal followed with the debate of him saying Obama is for coal.Anyone else want to know how Obama is going to make China use this so called 'new' technology of clean coal plants ( thought we already had them )? i guess just being Obama means communist China will do what he tells them. Too bad nobody thought to tell them not to pollute before Obama came to save the world.

And yes, I will agree with BG on one thing:They are all out to screw us. Republican, Democrat...... doesn't matter. The only thing any of them care about is their own asses. They will take care of themselves before they take care of any of us.There was a time when politicians were known as "Public Servants."

I was a physics major and I had at least one professor a year pronounced it that way. Of course half of them were Indian...that might have something to do wtih it.

Not such an idiot. One of the Vegas tricks is to express odds as 3 FOR 2 (bet 200 and you only get 300 back, including your 200) instead of 3 TO 2 (where you do get 500 back, including your 200).

During her republican convention speech - they had it printed out as New Clear on the teleprompter so she wouldn't mispronnounce itShe didn't have a teleprompter this time

Marge Simpson pronounces it the same way...Anyone else think Palin sounds like Maude Flanders? Her accent drives me batty. Kind of chirpy and odd inflections...

Go rent the movie "Fargo"And I find Ted Kennedy's accent far more distracting and don't get me started on southern accents.Guess we can't all be from the midwest with our "neutral" accents and sound like we are Anchors on the Evening News...dontcha know.
