Atlantic City Trip Report (wpt Borgata)

Recommended Posts

So I came down to Atlantic City for a few days of the WPT Borgata. I took care of some work stuff and mostly just hung around with a bunch of friends and played some cards in the downtime. I love staying at the Borgata; the hotel rooms are pretty nice and they have a decent selection of food here. Saturday night I met up with my friend Scott who was deep in one of the prelims (he finished 11th in a $500 event I think). He doesn't drink much, but he took a few beats to go out and decided to get drunk. So, we all got drunk together. We played craps for one roll and made $200 which was awesome.Earlier that night, Scott had knocked out a girl from the tournament. She was super good looking, Scott is super good looking, so they got to talking. Anyway, she wanted to get put in the $10k event, thought Scott was a mark, found out Scott wasn't, thought I was a mark, I laughed at her. She asked how she could get in the $10k on Sunday, I told her she'd have to put out majorly to someone who could afford to put her in, she looked at me kind of weird, I said... "No, not me," maybe like Gavin Smith or something. Later in the night Steve Dannenman promised to put her in and when he and I drunkenly talked about it about an hour later he laughed and said there was no way in hell she was playing the next day unless he impregnated her. Then she asked how she could get an endorsement deal. I told her she'd have to look like a complete whore and make it deep in some kind of event. She said she couldn't play in the big events because she couldn't afford it, but she didn't want to put out because she wasn't a slut. That's when I decided there was no talking to this woman seeing as I couldn't even introduce her to someone who wanted a $10,000 hummer. So that was the end of that.Anyway, Sunday comes around and I registered for the $1k prelim. It got 201 players, we started with 10k, 40 minute levels. I got aces my second hand, no action. The first big hand I played was against an asian maniac. He opened to $600 at 75/150 and I called on the button with 76ss, the big blind called too. The flop came 9-5-6 with 2 clubs giving me middle pair and a gutshot. Stacks were $10.5kish effective. He bet $800 after BB checked, I tanked and called. Turn was a red Q, he bet $1100 and I tank-called again. River was a red 4, he bet $2200, I made it $8k and he thought forever and folded AQ face-up. Wheee.Next big hand I played was against this girl who made a ton of huge folds (most of them were correct, but she had showed she had a propensity for making hero folds). I opened A8hh to $450 from the CO at 75/150, she called in the BB. Flop is J-7-9, she checked, I checked behind. Turn is another 9, she bets $1100, I make it $3600, she says, "Show me JJ, there's nothing else you can have" and folds 98 to me faceup. I show her my 8 and she instatilts. Not much big happens for a long time. I grind my stack up to $35k from the $10k and we find ourselves down to 50 like 7 hours into the tournament. I get moved to a new table, my stack is still just above average. I open 33 from UTG to 1800 at 300/600, guy who I played with earlier in the tournament and is super lag makes it $4k in immediate position, it comes back to me and I call. Flop is 2-4-6, I check call a $3k bet from him. Turn is a 9, I check, he checks behind. River is another 4, I check, he checks behind and shows AA.I then get involved in a huge pot. Effective stacks are like 25-26kish or something. I'm on the button with 99. Guy raises to $2100 at 300/600, I make it 7.2k, he has played every hand that I've been at the table for (never folds) and calls here. The flop is A-5-3, he checks, I bet $11k, he instashoves, and I tank for about 3 minutes before calling. He has Q4o and misses and I'm up to over 50k which is well above average. 27 pay, 50ish are left. Then it all takes a turn for the worse. I get moved to another table with the chipleader to my left and a really good player acting right before me. I fold for awhile and then pick up AA in the small blind at 1000/2000/500. Random old guy makes it $8k from UTG, button moves in for $22,000, I move in on top, random old guy folds. Button has TT and makes a 4-flush. I'm down to 20k with 40ish left. We break for dinner after I'm forced to fold my blinds, and I'm down to about 15k going into 1500/3000. We come back after dinner and 3 people from my table are gone, the big blind is dead and I'm UTG first hand back. I obviously shove since I only have to beat like 2 people, obviously the guy in the small blind wakes up with a monster and my KT < KK. So I'm busto in like 39th in the 1k.I go have dinner, relax a bit, and play 20/40 for an hour and make $700 back. Play some craps and make another $300 so I'm officially unstuck from the 1k. Blah blah blah, do some work stuff late in the night, go to sleep and wake up. Blah blah blah, some work stuff in the morning, I get in the $500 WPT prelim. This event I played so differently. The first event I played so tight, this one was the exact opposite. I win 2/3 of the pots at my table for the first two hours and run my 10k stack into 40k before level 5, easily the chip leader. The first huge hand I played was at 50/100. Guy minraises from UTG, I call $200 with Ts6s along with 4 people behind me. Flop is 9-8-4 all spades giving me a ten high flush. SB leads out $800, everyone calls, I make it 4k, button shoves over me. I think forever, finally figure there's no hand that he wouldn't have raised with pre that beats me besides KQss, and if he has that then I'm going home. I finally call, he has 99, board doesn't pair. This particular guy would have raised AJ+, and I know that one of the guys before me probably had the As from his pained expression when I raised. So, I thought this guy might have like a 54ss. Anyway, maybe a bad call but it worked out. One other huge hand I played I raised J6dd from UTG to $400 at 75/150, guy to my left makes it $1100, I have 25k or so and call. He has 12k. Flop is 3-4-3, I lead $1400 into him and he calls. Turn is a 5, I check call $1000 from him (lol). River is a 2 giving me the 6 high straight, I overbet 9k and he instacalls with AA (lolx2). I raise 95o from MP to $600 at 100/200, guy calls on the button. Flop is AT4, I c-bet $1100 he calls. Turn is a Q, I check, he bets $1800 I make it 5k, he folds A4 faceup. I say, "I got lucky on the turn," and show him my hand. I proceed to bluff him out of pots until he's down to 2k and shoves at 300/600 and I bust him with 74o. He just never called! He figured every time I raised that it had to be the time I wasn't bluffing. Anyway, at my peak in this event I had like $55k. Then it all takes a turn for the worse.I raise JTss from UTG to $1700 at 300/600, good internet player calls on the button. Effective stacks 11k. Flop is J-5-5 with two hearts (I have none). I check, he instabets $2.5k, I shove, he tanks and tanks and calls with QJ. Turn 2, river 3, he takes 11k from me. The next hand I'm in the BB, he raises to $2100, I call with J5ss (I suck). Flop is T-5-3, I check, he c-bets 3k I instacall. Turn is a 4, I check, he checks behind. River is an ace, I lead out for $9k into the A-2-3-5-T board. He tanks and tanks and tanks until someone else at the table calls the clock on him and finally makes an incredible call with 99. So I'm bleeding chips pretty badly although that was 100% a good spot for me to bet since he knows that I know that he knows, etc.Not much happens for awhile. At 600/1200 I have 30kish. I raise AK to $3600, one guy calls, old lady shoves for $9k, I isolate, she has AQ and flops trip Q's. I'm down to 20k or so. Joe Simmons gets moved to my table. At 800/1600 I have 18k. I'm OTB, Joe Simmons makes it $4800, CO calls, I ship it in with QQ, Joe Simmons folds, CO instacalls me with 88 and turns a set. lol donkaments, etc.I go to Wolfgang Puck because Bobby Flay is closed and get a delicious dinner. I then go to my room, turn on MNF, get room service dessert, and then write this.I'm going home tomorrow. I'm tired. Hope you enjoyed my serious trip report.

LOL... he should have impregnated her and still not give her the 10K

I was 100% expecting that story to lead to you being stuck 100k playing 50/100 or 100/200 NL but it never happened. Sadly I was unimpressed. You seem to run bad in big live tourneys eh? Foxwoods comes to mind, all I remember is you calling me on the ride home screaming about getting quads beat. Sad story.

Good report! Not very funny though :club:

Hope you enjoyed my serious trip report.
I stopped reading the second I read this line. :PIt was funny, because the whole time I was thinking, "when will the story take a turn towards the surreal?" You leveled me by giving a serious TR. Even though really odd things never happened, I still thoroughly enjoyed the read and can relate to the "LOL donkaments" sentiment.

You could have found a couple of brothers here on FCP that would have put her in an $1100 prelim for dueling handies.I DEMAND DEAD HOOKERS IN YOUR NEXT REPORT!
