Just wanted to see what the people on this forum thinks of Patrick Roy. I'm 22 and have followed him since I was 10 when I first started hockey, and he's still my all time favorite goalie. People on youtube are bashing the hell out of him for his son which I"m sure you all know about. After that incident if some of you that did like him did you lose some respect for the guy? Just curious you should read some of the comments people have said about him, pretty ruff. And by the way since this was a big discussion on youtube patrick definatly won that fight over chris osgood. I know it was forever ago but just sayin......

One of the very best goalies of all time.I don't care for him much as a person, from what I've seen of him in the media, and without actually getting to know him personally, both during and after his playing days.Nonetheless, one of the greatest goalies of all-time, and he really helped revolutionize the position with the butterfly style.

Come on serge... I hate Roy, but he's certainly deserving..... and what about toronto? Honouring gilmour and clarke....... just like MLSE, go for the sexy choice, as opposed to the most deserving. I would have to put Red Horner, and Dave Keon MILES ahead of both Clarke and Gilmour for having their number honoured. However, at least leaf fans will have TWO nights this season with something to cheer about, since the other 39 home games wont be anything to applaud...

I have to agree slightly..Even though Keon and Horner I never saw play, I am sure they were more deserving. But for the current generation of Leafs Nation Wendel and Dougie are what we have to hang on to...Plus these guys are still young and part of the organization. With respect to your reference to a long year at the ACC , we are obviously in debate about this. The Leafs will make the playoffs this year and while rebuilding have actually improved their team from last year. We will argue this in greater length as the season gets closer.

At his best there is no goalie in history that Id prefer in net in a SC final.

Exactly.
Funny PR story. For his birthday about 9 years ago my son got down to the Avs locker room after a Ducks game. Naturally he had his mask, a stick and a puck for Roy to sign. There were probably 15 kids there trying to get stuff done, and pushy as he is my son was toward the front of the crowd...3rd or 4th. He gives him the mask..signed, he gives him the stick...signed. He reaches out with the puck, Roy looks at it and cringes like it was a cobra, and says (sorry I dont write French accents very well) "a pock? a POCK? I dont sign no goddam POCKS", and he walked out without signing anything else for anyone.

Wish he took the '96 season off.
The last game was incredible. I loved vbk, and he played so well in that series, but Patrick was a wall. One of Roys greatest attributes was his absolute refusal to give up the first goal in a playoff game.

could you homos stop talking about 96 plz. :club:
hushhh hushhh you've made it to the playoffs since 2000 unlike another certain team who played in 96, plus you have no worries about your team being moved, speaking of moving- you guys are moving into a nice new building and have got great talent to go with it. So hussshh and smile.

I really Patrick Roy, a lot. Not just because of the thing with his son, or the fact that I'm a Red Wing fan. He just really doesn't seem like a classy individual. No doubting his skill but just seems like a jerk. Also, does anybody remember how he finished his career with the Canadians? Red Wings scored 8 or 9 on him in the first two periods, Roy makes an easy stop and throws both hands up in the air like he won the Stanley Cup. The coach (I forget who it was at the time) pulls him, then Roy has a shouting match with the owner of the team. Two days later he gets shipped off to Colorado. As a Red Wing fan that just makes me feel good for some reason.

Roys actions were totally justified. Tremblay hung Roy out to dry with the intention of embarassing him. There is no chance that any starting caliber goalie would put up with that BS and play for the coach again.and he kicked osgood's AND vernon's ass. :club:

he can't hear what this thread says because he's got four stanley cup rings plugging his ears.ok I butchered the quote but that was one of the best. here it is
all in all I think he got his props in the thread. You have to discount the Habtard comments, since they are too depressed thinking about the cups they would have won if Tremblay hadn't had it in for Patrick.
